I’m past counting the hours now – days for me!

I feel so much better….even cycled into work this morning! Ok, so it took ages and I managed to lose my rear light….but enjoyed it all the same!

There are some great stories on here and some fantastic encouragement. Thanks all – means a lot!

    Morning all!

How are we all.? AWESOME? 😀

A progress report. Yesterday was always going to be difficult. A do with some of my mates who are smokers. Partaking of a few ales. So… the typical conversation

You coming outside for a smoke?
    No, I’ve packed in
    **** off!
    No, seriously I have
How long you been off them then?
    5 Days
That’s not packing in, that’s just having a break. Come and have a fag.
    Nope. I’m done with ’em
You’ll be back on them again, definitely! etc, etc

I can’t tell you how much my mates (usually correct) assumptions about my lack of will power have spurred me on. I’m well chuffed with myself for having a few beers and seriously not even being tempted. I’m now fuelled by smugness 😀

    Thought I’d join in..
Completely collapsed this weekend – at the 3 week mark and starting all over again today. Had some bad news re my best mates kid and my god daughter, getting the news that we’d dreaded – doctors saying there’s no more they can do and she’s got just weeks left. I have found my reaction to something cancer related (going back in the fags) is odd – or if not plain stupid. Starting again today though and must say the stories in this thread have spurred me on – so thanks!

zoolander – really sorry to hear the bad news….but like you said – stupid re: smoking due to a cancer-related stress.

Use it – channel the pain into will power to stop smoking.

Dedicate your efforts to her, and I’m sure you won’t fail!

    Keep strong pal

Nice one binners, 😀 go easy on the smugness though, you’ll become a Big hitter and endlessly argue bout bollocks on here……

    well done you all

    Keep it up
There will be drk days ahead but all you have to do is keep saying no and be strong
It is weird once you are a proper non smoker you wont understand why you ever smoked in the first place.

That sounds really tough zoolander. I can completely understand you reaching for the fags. There’s no logic to smoking anyway, so there’s no reason you’d start applying it now, of all times!

Get yourself back with the programme in your own time, and (re)join the Axis of Awesome 😀

    Keep the good work up.

Zoolander – tough break chap, but as the others have said pick yourself up again and get back off the smokes.

binners – I am amazed and impressed!

I stopped a week ago and I don’t want to go back to it. Feeling pretty chuffed and looking forward to getting properly fit for the first time in ages. Weght gain has been immediate though.

I put on half a stone when I stopped smoking and I am still carrying most of it now 18 months later. I reckon this is now my ex-smoker weight and short of serious dieting I will not be able to change it that much.

Don’t fret too much about the weight increase though as smoking is roughly equivalent to carrying an extra 4 stones in weight when you look at various health factors.

i put on half a stone and kept it fr about 18 months then it went again with the smokers cough
Small price to pay at the minute but find healthier thinks to eat.

I’m presently chomping my way through a lot of fruit. Got a big bag of satsumas on my desk. I’m presently chomping my way through a lots of crisps too. But I always do that anyway. Today its mainly:

~This thread is great! I look at it during my ‘fag breaks’ in stead of smoking! Give my hands something to do and my mouth (mainly smiling!)

So, Binners, Camo, Me, Khani up for the 30th in Manc or surrounding area. Cheese – you up for an anti-smoking social?

I’m trying not to replace cigs with food, the inhaler helps as I still have something to twiddle and hang out of my gob,

Big brother voice‘ day six, khani is sitting in the kitchen with a plastic inhaler and a cup of tea, and is being harrassed by two poodles, the weather is shite and he’s wondering wether to go out on his bike after he’s took the pooch’s out, ‘Big brother voice

I’m starting to get slightly concerned about how well I’m doing. Nobody has yet died by my hand. Which wasn’t on the agenda at all. Maybe I’ve reached the point where I’m so cantankerous – a sort of critical mass of bitter resentment – that packing in smoking makes no odds 😯

What I have realised is that its quite liberating not having your schedule dictated to you by regular ciggy breaks 😀

As Binner’s other half I’d like to add I’m well proud of him and yes he’s right he’s got into such a cantankerous moaning old Victor Meldrew recently that no-one, including me, has noticed he’s being anymore grounchy.

It is nice to be able to watch a film without having to pause it every 15 mins!!

Keep it up guys well done everyone xx

I’m mentally topping it up in my head. Not for any particular reason, you understand. Just purely hypothetically. In no way would it be to provide any ammunition in the justification for, oh I don’t know…. off the top of my head…. say…. erm….. pluck something out of the air…. a new steel Hardtail for example. Purely hypothetically, like I said. A purely hypothetical steel Hardtail, Maybe a purely hypothetical Cotic BFe 😉

    molgrips – here we go:
    20 a day = £6.50.
    a week = £45.50
    a month = £197.17
    a year = £2366.

Sod bike bling and try a new bike!

My month treat to myself will be pointlessly purchasing gunsmoke floating rotors for my commuter 🙂

    Guys, I’m seriously impressed!

AND I’M OVER A WEEK SMOKE FREE!!!!!!

Barring a super sneaky ciggie-mugging on the commute home, I’ll be able echo this Proclamation of Awesomeness in 4 hours 10 minutes!

Yesterday was a little tricky – especially the part when the bored woman at Euston told us that all trains going to destinations oop north were suspended and liable to cancellation – but I’m feeling pretty strong.

I couldn’t afford a snazzy looking Commencal Essence that went on eBar a few weeks ago for less than £200.

That super sexy hardtail was less than a month’s smoke. 😳

    I truly am a ****

But now (behind these Awesome shades) my eyes are open. 8)

I saw a programme a very long time ago encouraging a family to quit. They showed each family member what they could have bought with the money they’d saved if they hadn’t smoked – it was some clothes, or a TV, that kind of thing, but with the father it was a luxury car.

He’d smoked an entire Merc’s worth of fags.

I’ve smoked for thirty three years, I’ve probably done a lamborghini by now
    Which is a bit shit really… 😥

    binners

Twenty odd years so I’ve definitely done a Porsche! More importantly, I’ve smoked a fully XTR kitted Transition Covert. This upsets me greatly 🙁

Okay, here’s my news: no smokes for me for ONE WHOLE WEEK!

Mrs 16 warns me not to count off the days or get too woo-hoo-tastic. It’s a marathon, not a sprint and all that…

That said, I still think a woo-hoo is in order.

    Woo-hoo.

There, I feel better! Ready for another day, week, month etc. etc. etc.

    😆
