thought that banging out the km would bring me on a downward curve.

“you can’t out run a bad diet”

“a six pack is made in the kitchen, not in the gym”

    etc.

Seriously, been there. Use exercise and calorie burning as a supplement but if we think because we ride ‘a lot’ we can eat what we want, we’re destined to fail. You’d need to be doing grand tour intensity and durations to really use exercise as the mechanism. I’m afraid.

I find it easier to lose weight when I am not exercising. It removes a variable, which in itself is hard to quantify, ie how much food to eat to fuel the exercise, but not over-estimate the calorific requirement and overeat.

The amount of XL bike gear for sale in the classifieds suggest most get this calculation wrong.

I’m taking a mulligan on fridays weigh in. I think when i activate the scales just as i put them down it craps out the zeroing somehow and the measurements go up by ~900g, which according to the kitchen scales is the weight of the bathroom ones.

    Technology, eh?

Well I’ve not weighed in for a while and I’m pleasantly surprised to see a little drop. I’ve had a bit of illness and changes to blood pressure and head meds, so weight hasn’t been a priority in the last two months. A good sized bowl of porridge in the mornings has made me a bit less snack-happy, and a push on veg over carbs could be helping too.

Well. I’ve try fallen off the wagon and will probably miss my target by 5-6lbs (maybe more). No reason really, just gluttony on my behalf. Looking forward to the next chubby clubby and will knuckle down.

…and maybe get a handle on some of the evidently psychological reasons I sometimes shove food in me gob.

Finished a whole 10 pounds short of my eventual target, but not at all downhearted as it does mean I have dropped another 21 pounds ( 1.5stone ) since New Year.

This doesn’t tell the whole story, which I’ll bore you with now.

last August I finally got to the stage where my weight made me so unhappy I knew mentally it was the right time to do something so on advice from my brother I went to a local Slimming World meeting, convinced it wouldn’t work for me but willing to try.

i weighed in that evening at 20 stone 5.5 lbs 😟 (285.5 lbs) and since then I have lost a total of   5 stone 9.5 lbs (79.5 lbs) and now weigh 14 stone 10 lbs (206 lbs). My final target of 14 stone (196) is a weight I cannot recall being since I started riding way too many years ago to recall but I have always been a  “Clydesdale “ class of racer so it seemed a good target.

For me this weight loss has been nearly entirely due to a “change of diet” as I have not got out on my bike nearly as much as I would like, but if anyone asks I always stress I am NOT on I diet, I have CHANGED my diet, if anything I eat more now than I have for ages but it is far healthier food, my dinner plate is packed with vegetables, I cook nearly all my own meals now and take always are a rare treat rather than the norm.

when I started this journey I was wearing 46” waist trousers with the expandable “active waist band and braces as I belt was uncomfortable, today I am a comfortable 36” waist and all round in a much better place mentally and physically. My asthma is much reduced though still present and I have loads more energy.

In 2 weeks time I am due surgery to repair a hernia which was a significant driver in my decision to do something about my weight, and I am looking forward to a summer of getting out on my new bike and enjoying life again.

many thanks Roberto for setting this up, it must have been loads of work to and remind us all each week but I for 1 very much appreciate your work.

Top work – and brilliant answer to the diet / not a diet it’s a change of habit question.  Good job!

    Nice going slimoldgit!!

Sadly I’ve not had time to do anything fancy-pants for the next edition + with Windows 10 causing my laptop to run slower than Daniel Lambert, it’s mildly infuriating trying to. So, for the time being, Chubby-clubby 2018.2 will just have to be a carbon-copy of the 1st edition and a will mean a re-setting of start weights & targets for all.

At some point I’ll include the 1st edition’s data so those who have stuck with it all the way will get a full picture of their progress.

I’ll assume anyone who is still playing wants to go into the next edition and include whatever they input as their weight for 30/03/2018 as their start weight. Anyone who doesn’t input for 30/03/2018 (tomorrow, but doesn’t have to be done tomorrow) will be ungraciously dumped and will have to suffer the shame of having to email me to join in.

Anyone who strayed from the path is welcome back for take #2 and, of course, anyone else can join in the fun – just email me with your forum name and I’ll send you instructions and a link to the new spreadsheet.

As there will be no data to speak of for a few weeks, the dashboard will be all broken again – once people starts populating their rows it’ll magically fix itself. I hope it will anyway cos I’ve forgotten how it all works 🙂

All we ever expected of you is middle of the road averageness, Rob. Of which you have delivered, and will deliver, in spades.

We thank you for your service.

All charts in the new edition will be beige – like the hummus I’m currently consuming.

Just a heads up for those using MFP.

    https://content.myfitnesspal.com/security-information/notice.html

Also. We’re all done. I started so well, but just drifted off in the last month. I know where I went wrong, do should be able to fix for next time. I’ll hit 10 stone if it kills me.

Well it is all over bar the last weigh in 🙂

Well done to everyone who took part, regardless of outcome. And a huge thank you to Rob for organising it and for all the work in the background to set up and maintain the spreadsheet. Here’s hoping we can all maintain this going forward and look forward to seeing some of you out on the trails, smashing KOMs left right and centre.

I can’t input my weight as on mobile only 🙁

    well done to all!

See you in Chub Club 2 – Chub club strike back with a purpose

(Final weight was a disappointing 88.8 but pleased with overall progress, if someone would be really awesome and input that into the sheet I’d be very grateful 👍😀)

Currently, only 35 flabby bodies are going in for round 2 as that’s how many people have updated their weight up to last Friday.

If you’ve emailed me re staying in – I’m not ignoring you, I’ll do everyone at once when the new spreadsheet is live. Which will be some time in the next couple of days.

    Finally updated my Friday weigh-in.

To all those who may have missed their target, take comfort in the fact that I went up 1.3kg from my start weight.  Now do I still keep my original target to spur me on, or relax it a bit?

There was weight loss this week, which was nice. So disheartened that I did not bother on the penultimate week.

    It’s live!!!!!

    So exciting!

All current weights have been moved over as start weights for this edition, email with link has gone out and I can fully focus on planning just how I’m gonna lose 0.4 pounds a week :).

Anyone who’s new to this & wants in, email me, yo.

    Hi

It’s showing as view only for me so I can’t add a target. Not a bad thing really!

Thanks for setting this up again Rob.  I’ve lost 13kgs (30lbs) since Jan 5th, which is more than my bike.  Hoping to lose another 10kg in the next 12 weeks, which will make a total of two bikes lost if I can keep up the clean eating.

Checking in each week has really helped with the motivation, and I doubt I’d have kept it up if it wasn’t for the spreadsheet and weekly reminders.  Well done everyone 🙂

Yep, well done Rob – new target entered and locked on.

1lb/week should be OK to acheive and will take me below 80kg which is a place I’ve not been to in over 25 years!!

The weekly weigh-in has been a great motivator and I should just keep doing these regardless of what me weight ends up at 🙂

14kg lost since early December and still not done any exercise…. maybe once it warms up 😉

Thanks again Rob for sorting this.

Question about MFP – if I change the start date and weight to now will it re calculate calories required?

Appreciate if I change these then previous diary entries will be erased but not too fussed about it .

I’ve unconsciously followed Jamie’s strategy of putting on weight just so I can motivate myself to lose it agen and feel better about do that… I’m not sure it’s the way forward, but it is what it is.

Family dim-sum meal tomorrow should be interesting what with the encouragement to gorge myself when I’ll really just be wanting to nibble a bit of tofu. Maybe I’ll order the chickens’ feet in a bid to put myself completely off eating for a couple of days 😀

Hmmm… the weekly email bounces back from BTInternet addresses:

I might bother to look into this, I might not – who knows??

Anyway, it means Wally & Shooterman didn’t get this week’s and I know they’re both in, so, you two: update please :).

Woo, in again – let’s do this! Low carb/high GI seems to be the way for me, just need a little willpower!

    sharkbait

Interestingly I didn’t weigh myself after reaching my target in CCv1.1 but I continued with the low carb thing – I presumed I’d gone up a bit over Easter (no choc but plenty of alcohol) but it seems that I’ve continued to lose a bit of weight 🙂

So my weigh in figure today makes me look like I’ve lost a chunk in the last week but I haven’t really – I think 1lb/week works for me at the moment.

oh yeah… and I had fish and [3] chips the other night!

Just back from 10 days away 🙂

I’ve been eating carbs and been drinking every night!

Jumped on the scales last night and I’ve lost 1lb…. Yay!!

However I did Ski over 230km over 8 days so not just been eating

I missed the weigh in last week but looks like i’m back on track with a more achievable target this round. Still not back to my ‘best’ in last season but not far off.

One thing that I can’t seem to kick is the desire to eat a bowl of bloody cereal at about 10pm, it’s ridiculous, the only way I can stop myself is to clean my teeth early so I can only drink water. I completely lack any sort of self control.

I’m like Groundhog Day. Same starting weight, same target…..feel like Sisyphus.

I’ve been a bloody saint today but can’t really tell anyone about it cos frankly, i’m a terrible bore by now.

I’m in the process of cocking it all up though, when a bag of roasted salted pistachios says ’25g contains 145 kcal’ is that 25g including the shells?
