    by the way – look here…in 1hour and 30 mins, I will be 100% nic free 😀

I’m nipping out for a stroll as the sun has made an appearence. I normally go for a stroll for a smoke at lunchtime, but today I’m going because I fancy a stroll 😀

I’m presuming you’ve just passed your three-day anniversary, morgs!

    Bravo!

    * pulls streamer and looks genuinely pleased *

Well done to Binners, too. In fact, you’ve just inspired me to go for a non-smokey stroll. 🙂

    Good going Morgs

That was rather pleasant. I’m planning to sort of keep half my routine. Go for the stroll but don’t have a smoke

I don’t know if this will extend to punctuating my evening by periodically going standing outside the back door….. 😉

    Go Khani!

Wow – Club Awesome’s rocking this week! 8)

It’s not easy, agreed. But the time was right and – inspired by many of the guys on this thread – I’ve realised that enough was enough.

Yeah. Stay strong brother! I’m presently in the pub having something to eat with the junior and t’other half (bagpuss). They all said good luck! They’ll be very angry if any of us have one. And nobody wants that! 🙂

morgs, I don’t normally condone violence, but if punching a few people tonight helps you stay off the fags, just do it…

I’ll act as a character witness in court if required 😉

    cheers guys!

Sorry for late replies…I had to go to meetings in Manchester. One was very stressful….and, well…..I got out of the meeting, walked past some people smoking in a shelter….and, I thought LOSERS!!!!! 🙂

I’m 3 1/4 days in now….getting ready for the bug test tonight…packing up with loads of chewing gum!

For those out for a drink, good luck!!!

Smoking in, my own personal space!

Not smoked since the the day before the IOM E2E

Its tough, but my fitness feels loads better and i’m riding less due to the weather – and i’m late 30’s on Sunday!

Keep at it mate – well worth it!

Well into irrational bad mood territory now! It’s just been pointed out that I’d managed to work myself up into a state of almost apocalyptic rage over making myself some cheese and biscuits! Hey ho!

I’ll be ok in a couple of days. If she hasn’t killed me by then. Morgs – can you randomly punch somebody for me please? Doesn’t matter who.

    morgs

Bnners sure! Not random, but id happily smack the guitar player who messed nothing else matters?

And back home. Smoke free shift (unless you class passive….and I don’t!) and it also ties in with the 86 hour marker. Really quite chuffed with myself! Even more so as I was at the docs for a BP check (i suffer with hypertension). I am *meant* to be on meds, but kind forgot to take them. for the last 6 months. My BP is now 6 points above normal for my age! Much better than the 40 or so above that it was 🙂

I LOVE THIS SMOKE FREE BUSINESS!

Right, how does Wednesday 30th grab people for the STW non-smoking social? Few drinks, a bit of food and a smoke-free night (which ties in with a month for me) and my random Mo-vember tash. Who’s game?

Well done fella! Good effort! 30th sounds like a plan for the reformed smokers social!

I’m planning on Sunday being my Quit day. Going to do it cold Turkey as its pointless prolonging the agony. Not been a smoker long about 7 years on 20 to 30 a day. Defo beginning to feel its affects now. Had a chest infection for 4 weeks now and i know the smoking is not helping me recover.

Will save me a load of money also.

bfwc – go for it! There’s a fair few of us giving it a go so you wont be alone! Guessing you’re in or near Bolton, if you manage to stop, you can treat yourself to a night with me, binners, hopefully Camo, Khani etc and bask in all our collective awesomeness!

Khani – good going pal! how long is it for you now?

I had a proper messed up nights’ sleep last night….ph well, better than than smoking!

Excellent work, guys. Serious kudos to Morgs, Binners and Khani. I’ve just got back from a long day out with the 16 posse. Was tempted a couple of times, but my resistance has been pretty effective so far!

It’ll be four days for me in 90 minutes! Woo!
It’s so good to hear my fellow quitters are feeling the force of Awesome too!

    Seriously guys – impressive!

Right, how does Wednesday 30th grab people for the STW non-smoking social?

    Sounds great. I’m there. 8)

I’ve sort of got past the worst of it today, coffee an a cig in the morning seems to be my hard bit, coffee an a little plastic thingy filled with nicotine isn’t the same 😕 and a mug of espresso made me a bit Whoo without a cig 😳
If I’m off on the 30th I’ll bob up for a pootle, 😀
    Stay strong chaps…

Good work chaps! I’ve made it through another day. I don’t think I’ve been much fun to be around. Mind you, I’m a **** at the best of times 🙂

I’m at a bonfire with non-smoking mates so it’s all good!

I’ve never smoked and none of my friends smoke. However I always read these threads with interest, it’s good to see people fighting to achieve a desired goal.

Good job folks, keep it up 🙂

    I’m at a bonfire

Nice bit of unintentional irony there 🙂

Good moaning peeps, 😀 I feel less bothered than yesterday, and that morning gzzzzarghhh! seems muchly reduced,
    No killing today….

Just remember when those cravings arrive, there’s a demon in your stomach. he wants you to smoke. In fact he depends on it. When you get light headed and giddy, that’s him starving.

When you don’t smoke you kill that demon.

    Works for me anyway 🙂

Morning all. I’m feeling considerably better about being smoke free. Slightly more rational and less homicidal today.

There also appears to be an unexpected bonus. When I’ve had a few ales I tend to snore like a low flying Lancaster bomber. Last night I didn’t. The stopping smoking seems to have stopped my snoring! As you can imagine, this is playing very well indeed 🙂

I’ve got a sterner test this afternoon. A do with some mates who smoke. I’m very determined though. I’ve not been through the last few days to start again now. I’m off out for a nice long ride in the sunshine first though. Result! 😀

seriously smashed my collarbone up in summer and have been off the bike ever since, fitness is now none exsistent and smoked/drunk more than ever due to boredom and depression over the last 5mnths.

my collar bone hadnt calcified (just spongified) and the doc said smoking had a lot to do with it.
had my last smoke on thursday morning, chain smoked 3 before going for the operation to plate my collar bone.
woke up thursday afternoon, doc told me the op went better than planned, although it will never be the same again he said they had done all they could but it was up to me now, told me if i didnt pack in then i would probably have to go through all this again if it didnt heal (due to smoking) with the risks increasing the next time they had to operate ,,,,,,,,, NO,,,,,,XXXXING,,,,,,, CHANCE, its the best excuse ive ever had to finally stop for good

havnt touched one since and dont want to ever again, getting back on the bike is more important to me now,,, ive missed riding so much and now im counting down the months to when i can start to try and rebuild my fitness and my bottle again.

couple of things ive done to help me give up,

1, wrote a big list (think marker pen and A3) of all the things positive/negative about smoking, not one on the poz list,,, the negs not finished yet as i keep adding to it and stuck it to the bedroom door,, its the first thing i see every morning and i read it a couple of times as i get dressed
2, left post it notes saying ‘cigs are shit’ etc next to my trigger points aaround the home i.e the coffee jar, the beer cooler.
3, i watch people who smoke and take note how they react, i have never seen anybody yet who looks like they are actually enjoying it.

couple of things ive done to help keep my mind off them
1, eat lots of super strong cough sweets,,, feels like its clearing my airways out (placebo ?)
2, got a big bag of liquorice twigs (not the sweets the actual wooden twig thingys) from the chemist and chew on them,,,, taste a bit like cigs when you suck them and they keep my hands busy. i believe they are used in poorer countrys as a way of cleaning teeth which is a bonus as my teeth are tobacco yellow.
3, if i get a strong urge for a cig, i light one up, hold it for a bit then throw it away without taking a drag,,, im fooling myself into thinking ive had one by going through the motions,,, i think ?

ive packed in a few times over the years. longest i did wsa over 18mnths but started again after a drunken night out thinking i will just pack in again coz ive done it before(stupid or what). i hate smoking, i hate the smell and i hate the way it has such a powerfull hold over me, hopefully this time i will beat it

keep this thread going boys, if you fall off the wagon let people know im sure you will get the support/ribbing you need to give it another go.

    Great work, guys.

Well, that’s the weekend almost over.

Five days in I’m feeling way better… there’s still plenty of cravings, but I’m MTFU-ing like crazy. Plus, I’m definitely more reasonable today – apparently, the 16 family has noticed a lightening up….

I’m in London all day tomorrow, so that’s two long train journeys and a conference.

I’ll check in with you guys on Tuesday – aka a week sans smoke.

Fully expecting you all to be Awesomer than Ever!
