Don’t think so Deadly. It’s home made iDave, it just grew a bit big. 😆 To make you feel better, I’m eating left over chick pea, chorizo, and chicken casserole.

just got back from riding, starving

Yeah that’s a good shout, I think I need more carbs than I am getting and I think I’ll leave some recovery shake at work in the morning so I am fuelled for the ride home.

Anybody else bonked and found something that helps??? It’s depressing when granny on her shopper with little dog in front basket overtakes me! 😉

    What is bonking?

I had my first iDave breakfast this morning of a 3 egg omelette, pre my 20 mile commute. Was a banana ok for my carbs?

    Not feeling hungry… yet.

better carbs would have been a tin of lentils mixed with the eggs. never mind eh, god deadly loves a trier

I’m now 5 days in – doing it strictly so far (to see if it’s sustainable for me) and came back from windsurfing last night, ravenous, and tucked into the spag bol I’d made earlier.

Well, Mrs BigJohn had spag bol, I had adzuki bean bol. Half a can of adzuki beans in a saucepan with 1 crushed garlic clove, 2 pieces of star anise, and a shake of caraway seeds. Much better than pasta.

I’m enjoying it, and I’m not hungry.

Are you allowed to skip breakfast? I don’t usually have anything, and I’m not hungry now.

Oh, and this week I’ve learned that Tesco Chorizo has as much in common with chorizo as an Appollo bike has in common with a bike.

BigJohn, I have some weekend ‘strategies’ to send you. When I’m less not busy than I’m currently not.

    68.3kg this morning!

    lowest i’ve ever been

all out the window this weekend as i have a stag do in torquay 🙁

tipinman…only way i can recover from bonking is sugar/chocolate, which i had to do on sunday’s ride.

I slipped up last night and had chocolate. Two days back on carbs and the sugar cravings are back with a vengence 🙁 I also have a thumping headache 😥

I have been having my 30g carbs following exercise

@sx-xc – I found 30g was sometimes not enough during. So I took some before and after. I think it’s ok on the diet, and I continued to lose.

However this week’s been a bugger – too busy to get the riding in, a fair few diet fails and I feel like crap too. Drove in today, just tired, but I think it’s not diet related.

DGOAB> are you not carbing it up on rides. before and during?

I’m drinking 1 bottle of torq mixed drink before a race and another during (kinda like insurance) and i’m still losing weight

Btw folks I found these helped regulate carb intake:

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NHS-10-PARAMETER-URINE-REAGENT-STRIP-TEST-TESTS-100-/280568107099?pt=UK_Health_Beauty_Mobility_Disability_Medical_ET&hash=item415329905b#ht_3109wt_984

The pee testing strips that doctors use. One of the things on it is ketones which will show up if you aren’t having enough carbs – I think… hopefully iDave will correct me if I am talking arse 🙂

Spoke to a client earlier this week about her challenge with diabetes. Sounds like her doctor has put her on a very similar diet (up the legumes, remove ‘bad’ carbs, and even have a day off to pig out). So Dave, have you found any diabetic types getting into this?

Ooh, good. I’m just seeing how close I might be able to stick to the regime, because I’m allergic to doing things half-heartedly.

It was a strange feeling walking down the lesbian aisle at Tesco, alone, looking for the quinoa, gram flour, falafel mix, adzuki beans etc., and even stranger finding that I was making even better versions of stodge than the normal bread, rice and potatoes that usually accompany my meals.

I might even have quinoa with my spare ribs and cauliflower & broccoli stir fry tonight instead of noodles.

    Chips tomorrow though.

EDIT – actually, I am trasgressing. I have 2 espressos a day (Happy Donkey Sumatra Mocha beans at the moment, beautiful, stop by and sample one, Dave) and I can’t manage without a spoonful of white sugar)

    iDave

BJ – try a pinch of cinnamon in the espresso instead of sugar – not as odd as it sounds and powerful insulin suppressor

    are you in this afternoon?

MG – my philosophy is to remove complexity. pee strips may well do what they do but they’re just more ‘stuff’ (and cost) that adds to information that we don’t necessarily need. instead of adding more, take away more. IMO

Headache? You need jaffa cakes and…

You promised me that last night, and then let me down 😥

Will be interesting to see my performance racing on sunday after the last few weeks. Wish me luck 🙂

    *feels horrible*

Edit trickydisco…no hadn’t been drinking energy stuff before a race. I use high 5 4:1 rather than Torq. But i’m thinking along with a coffee on the way i might try to get through a bottle before the race. No idea what i want/should be consuming on sunday though as it’ll be the longest i’ve raced in (distance isn’t the issue, more keeping the speed up over the distance)

Good luck. If you feel a tug at the last climb, it’ll me me lassooing your saddle with a bungee 😀

    A valid stance.

However for me my brain is always asking questions and seeking answers. These provided one. However it must be said we actually bought them for Mrs Grips’ pregnancy so they were just lying around the house when I used them 🙂

BJ – re the espresso, I also often don’t like some of the flavours of neat espresso or black coffee, but I find some espressos very easy to drink and others not.

Try different espressos – something like Old Brown Java is quite ‘dry’, Costa Rica can be pleasantly nutty and easy to drink.. or there’s Australian Skyberry which is fruity and sweet. (note those are all from Whittards 🙂 )

Have been on it strict all week (same as previous 2 weeks)

Dirtygirl, I am going to buy some energy drink for during a ride, I usually just do water and then a recovery shake at home each might but it’s time to have an energy drink on the ride… hope the ride home tonight is ok. I can always poodle home, cruise…

I was surprised that im 13%

mrsalias is just finishing week two on iDave
the morning weigh ins sound like things are going well
she has just restarted her ‘running’ program and is hoping to get moved from beginners to improvers/intermediate with her swimming classes, amazing what someone can do when they put their mind to it

Let me know when you want to pop in Dave and I’ll fit my errand around it.

Do you want one out of the Classic or the bean to cup Titanium I’ve just been given? I’d go for the Classic.

Oh, hang on, you’re there today aren’t you, not here?

    5 days into the diet, stuck religiously to it except;

2 cups of tea with milk

1 packet of wine gums and a packet of chocloate buttons on Wednesday before I went to the gym, but then couldn’t go.

Some prawn crackers and sweet chilli dip to go with an otherwise compliant thai meal.

Lost 2kg and, more noticably, 2 notches on my belt!

This was meant as a distraction for while I was away on assignment, at this rate I’ll hit my first target before I leave!

Btw you can make chai by brewing tea along with some whole spices (ie cinnamon stick, cloves etc) or just by the twinnings tea bags with them in.

I’m more supprised than anyone probably, wonder if my average speed on the road bike will have improved if I no longer have to lift my belly up with each stroke?

No, porridge is a grain and hence a white carb and hence out.
