One of the worst campaigns i can recalloutright treated the electorate with contempt. Crazy people still voted for them. Scotland still utterly perplexs me. I’ve always said to people don’t kid yourselves there are plenty of tories in scotland, this is crazy though.

I imagine some of the east coast scottish voters were going after Brexit due t the fishing industry…hate quaotas more than tories?

Agree, the Scottish result was remarkable- particularly Salmond going, I don’t think any of us would have forecast that.

Well as it’s the gov (Tories) that decide who gets the share of the quotas, and the EU enforce quotas to make fishing more sustainable, then perhaps they should rethink

Well, I hope a rabidly anti-EU Tory party propped up by the delightful DUP is what the Scottish Tory voters really wanted because that’s what they’ve got.

Possibly that, but I think more just fed up of SNP relentlessly gnawing at the independence bone. SNP need to get on and focus on delivering good government for 10-15 yrs.

Concentrated too much on one subject for this election. Didn’t account for the voters who opted for Brexit as an objection to the way the government was ploughing on with austerity measures. I know that Brexit wasn’t about austerity but, unfortunately, that was a massive influence. When the Brexit vote didn’t go their way did they change their course enough for the general electorate?

Tactical voting. But, if I was you, I’d be looking for silver linings this morning too. 😆

From what I can gather, if May goes today she’ll be the prime minister with the shortest term in office in modern history. 😆

My guess is the east coast of Scotland voted Tory for one of the following reasons:

    1) The perception that SNP have spending in the NE and increased it in the central belt while also actively moving jobs to the central belt, like Police control centers.

    2) Brexit position, SNP are very Pro, fishing industry not so keen.

    3) Indy2, last thing the oil industry wants is another referendum.

I’m sure there were a few local issues at play also.

May, be careful what you wish for. Borid, Davies, Rudd or Leadsom ?

Stunning upset really, decision to call the election clearly a very poor one. Bright spots in Scotland overshadowed by national result. Golfsmith is bad news too.

The real “bad for the country” decision was made last June.

Rudd’s seat isn’t safe enough for her to be considered leader. If she was PM, and there was to be another election later this year or next year, then the PM would be in danger of being voted out!

A brilliant night, though. Especially as our useless Tory constituency MP (Oxford West and Abingdon) was ejected.

Just seen this on the BBC, I texted TMH to say much the same thing earlier. This GE result is not good for soft-Brexiteers. The WTO option looks more likely not less

But EU Budget Commissioner Günther Oettinger told German radio he was unsure Brexit talks could start later this month as scheduled. He said discussions with a weak UK negotiating partner could lead to a poor outcome.

apart from it was forcast and likely to those of us who understand scottish politics. Davidson stood on a platform of SNP bad and union good and concentrated the anti snp vote in the candidates most likely to beat the SNP – this was the snp v the rest working together. she only got a vote % a few % above the historical norm but concentrated in areas sthey hed to win. Remember the Snp still hold well over half the seats with 40% ish of the vote. More tories than expected and Salmond was always vunerable to the anti SNP anti independence anti EU vote all coalescing around the candidate most likely to beat the SNP

I don’t think I’ve ever seen such an absolute XXXX of politics.

The EU Referendum was supposed to be a way for Cameron to appease the Eurosceptic MPs, consolidate his power and it was going to be an easy win for Remain and then the country could go back to normal.

One epic total utter misjudgment later and the Tories decide to make the best of a bad deal by railroading through what they’ve just decided their version of Brexit should be and decide to – oh yes, consolidate power with an easy win snap election.

Cos that worked so well for Call Me Dave didn’t it.

To have one epic total utter misjudgment is unlucky, to have two begins to look like incompetence.

I think the one thing that saved the remnants of it for the Tories was the Daily Mail, Daily Express and The Sun printing lie after lie about Corbyn and Labour followed by a final outright plea on the cover of the Mail the other day to vote Tory. Without that constant negative sniping from them about Corbyn, I think it would have been a total Labour landslide.

so the DUP is/was to the UVF terrorists what Sinn Fein is/was to the IRA. Now who’s cosying up to (ex)terrorists. Oh the irony…

and the spinning and denial begins

Aye it was a great night for hard brexiters like yourself and what you want looks more likely now your cheerleader has got less votes and just been kicked by her electorate.

    Get real dude get real

IS WTO going to be like the EZ collapsing and Greece exploding in that it will be something you predict endlessly but has next to no chance of happening

I think my favourite part of this election isn’t watching the Tories squirm, it’s watching the Blairites trying to enjoy the (relative) victory whilst knowing that they owe it all to a Marxist 🙂

I think what the referendum and GE show is a huge lack of judgement on the part of Tory party’s leaders.

the knives are out for may. she’ll be down the job centre before next week is out. the peter principle wins again.
i see the loathsome oxygen thief farage has raised the prospect of a second referendum. WTO is not the only way. the electorate has woken, spoken, and voted tactically right across the country.
maybe we can put a stop to this madness after all.

IDS spouting horse crap about not contesting leadership of the Nasty Party on the radio is hysterical considering he and BloJo are planning to oust May.

I hear BloJo and Davis still refusing BBC interviews is going down well in the Press.

    Losers, incompetent losers.

    oh those funny germans 🙂

A senior German MP says Britian should be given time to form a stable government before Brexit negoitiations begin.

Speaking on German radio, Stephan Mayer said he was very surprised at what he described as a landslide.

“It means instability for Britain. Officially Theresa May is still the partner in Brexit negotiations but the political reality is different after this disastrous defeat.

“I can’t imagine that May will be able to remain PM. That’s why it would be wrong to put pressure on GB. I think we should give them time to form a stable government.”

I’m pretty sure we could have found better uses for it.
Should send a bill to the conservative party for it.
