OneUp’s 1% Giveback reaches $1million donated

by 3

OneUp Components’ 1% Giveback Program has just ticked over $1 million dollars donated since 2013.

As well as making arguably the best dropper post on the market, OneUp’s Giveback Program donates 1% of its revenue to environmental groups, bike charities and mountain bike trail associations around the world.

OneUp Components press release:

$1 Million Donated since 2013

When we started OneUp in 2013, we were inspired by Patagonia’s 1% for the planet program. On day 1, we committed to donate 1% of all sales to good causes and we’ve been doing it ever since. This year we reached a big milestone: one million dollars in total OneUp donations.

We’re proud of what our small team has achieved. Historically, we haven’t promoted our 1% program much. We hope this announcement inspires other companies to do something similar.

OneUp 1% Giveback Program

OneUp Components donates 1% of revenue to environmental groups, bike charities and mountain bike trail associations. Some companies donate 1% of profits. Our program is tied to revenue which means we make a donation even if we don’t turn a profit. Through good times or bad 1% is part of OneUp’s business and it always will be.

Our 1% program started with two donations: one to Squamish Off-Road Cycling Association, our local trail association, and another to World Bicycle Relief, a global organization that improves lives through the power of the bicycle. Today, we’re proud to support non-profit organizations that benefit trails, the environment and people around the world.

Trails

We donate to trail associations because we love mountain biking. And, without trails, there is no mountain biking. We give to trail organizations of all sizes. The money goes towards the maintenance and construction of trails, community programs and building the stoke for riding bikes. We try to build long standing relationships with associations. We want to be a reliable partner so they can invest for the long term.

“Oneup’s support for SORCA and Squamish’s trail network has gone far beyond their financial contributions. Whether it be through trail building, creative events, or other initiatives, they are consistently looking for different ways to make the mountain bike community that they call home a better place.” – Jeff Norman, President, Squamish Off-Road Cycling Association

Environment

We only have one planet. That’s why we support organizations dedicated to restoring, reclaiming and protecting the natural environment around the world. We’ve supported The Rainforest Trust, Eden: People+Planet and the Ancient Forest Alliance. This year we’re expanding our support to include the Wilderness Committee and Ecology Action. The work of these organizations is integral to protecting and restoring the natural places we love. These are not carbon offset projects.

“Fulfilling our mission of fostering healthy relationships between communities and the land we all depend on is only possible with the support of generous partners such as OneUp. To date, OneUp has donated over $90,000 USD to fund the planting of over 600,000 trees with Eden. We are truly excited to continue our work with OneUp to help fulfill our goals.” – Haley Kolezar, Development Manager, Eden: People + Planet

People

We give to organizations that empower people with bikes, because we believe bikes can make life better for people around the world. One of our longest standing partnerships is with World Bicycle Relief, an organization with the goal of empowering 5 million people with 1 million Buffalo bikes. Our first donation to WBR in 2014 was the purchase of 100 Buffalo bikes.

WBR is a great example of a large-scale, comprehensive program that turns donations into bikes that make a difference. Their programs focus on education, economic development and health care. We’ve also supported Trips for Kids, an organization that uses the power of the bike to build self esteem, inspire healthy lifestyles, instill environmental values and break social barriers.

“On behalf of our entire team, I want to extend my deepest gratitude to OneUp for their commitment to World Bicycle Relief through their 1% giveback program. Since 2014, these generous contributions have made a tangible impact on rural communities through 750 Buffalo Bicycles and more than 3,700 people mobilized. And your dedication to bicycle empowerment sets a remarkable example for us all.” – Dave Neiswander, CEO, World Bicycle Relief

1% for Good

In 10 years we’ve gone from buying beer and shovels for our local trailbuilders to supporting international conservation initiatives and global organizations using the power of the bike to improve the lives of thousands of people.

We hope our story inspires other companies, big and small, to see where this type of initiative can go. We’re proud to say that donating 1% of revenue is a core part of OneUp’s business and it always will be. Fair play, to generate $100m revenue in 10 years in this industry is very impressive.

Looking at the group photo, they’re either all really small people or they’ve got a massive bag of Kettle Crisps.

Anyway, well done J-Claw and crew.
