#marchmeetthemaker Over half a decade ago the shop under our flat came up for rent. We were a bit worried what would be there so asked our landlord if we could take the space on a temporary basis. A few of our friends had been travelling around a fair bit and wanted to put down some roots. So we all figured, we’d open a mostly private tattoo studio, focusing on dotwork & blackwork, which at the time was not massively known. In a quiet seaside town we knew we could get on with what we liked without the pressure of too many walk ins. Leaving fairly steady 9-5 jobs to run a startup, especially with a very young child seemed a bit far fetched. Our families wanted to be supportive but, you could see they were worried about the choice. I think the success took us (and everyone really) by surprise. I think a lot of people thought we were joking or would just bomb out. A mix of a very different atmosphere to most studios and a never ending roster of guest artists meant we soon had our work cut out for us. Most of the time I couldn’t believe the artists we had come though our doors. Some even stayed on for way longer than they meant to. Soon it was becoming a global hub for challenging, eccentric and exciting artists. As we move in to our new shop we look forward to doing more of the same. People will warn you about following your dreams, that it will be hard, of course it is, but it’s worth it. We are humbled and honoured to have our team and our extended family around the world. Occult was the second (IIRC) business he started prior to sick bikes. Previous to that it was Blaq Mass clothing (now dissolved/struck off) and now Jordan has started Knucker Hole, a company that makes vegan ‘cheese’. There is also Sick Corp, for the t-shirt business (not to be confused with Sick! Series, Fabio Wilmers brand.)

by all accounts I think the tattoo parlour is pretty successful, as the sick idiots don’t have to do much.

They get guest artists in, who basically pay for the work space. So its easy money. The artists sell themselves/have their own portfolio/create their own following etc.

So its pretty hard for the sickheads to mess that up.

Good to see On One making the best out of a bad situation.

A friend’s experience showed there are actually enough people in London alone, in an apparently small market (probably smaller than bikes), for larger ££s, and over a longer period than the Sick guys managed. [No I’m not talking about fund manager referrals LOL]

The charitable view is the people are unbridled optimists with a great vision going out on a limb to deliver whatever the personal sacrifice required 🙂
