the diabetic who insisted on injecting herself in full view in a busy restaurant,

Quite right too, nothing shameful about it and nobody will see who isn’t looking.

Too young for me MnTax I’m old enough to be the winking OAP 🙂

I got ‘winked at’ by a 62 year old over the weekend (i’m 37) which made me laugh – he might be being a tad optimistic. I can also read some negatives into that but i’m resolutely ignoring them!!! (although I did put up some more youthful looking photos!).

One of the girls I met online showed me some of the emails she’d received from other guys on the same site.

One guy who freely admitted wanting “a bit on the side while he was working away from home”, someone who’d sent through an itemised list of requirements for a first date (right down to exactly how she would be expected to suck him off), all sorts of right weirdos.

Reading it was very entertaining but I can see why she wasn’t impressed!

If you have seen my photo and think I look older, I don’t want to know

    I wouldn’t. Email in profile 😎

I was recently “matched” with some nutter who’s profile included some very random text about how she was looking for someone to set her heart free from the tower in which it was imprisoned. Really made me want to contact her for a date!!

Another one had loads of photos with her pet rabbits “who she lived with” – the way it was all written she clearly treat them as housemates rather than fox-fodder…

One of my girly mates has set up her own website to post up the messages and photo’s received from various losers, weirdo’s and perverts who proposition her on dating sites.

I’d post the link up, but I fear some of them may be recognisable 😆

Nothing shameful about diabetes, but injecting whilst people are eating is downright disrespectful and rude.

I think you’ll find that’s an entirely different and somewhat more, er, specialised, website………. 😉

Don’t think so Phil. I agree with Shibboleth. Wife had a woman at work who used to inject herself at the lunch table.
Well, wouldn’t say disrespectful & rude – just no need for it.

It wouldnt personally bother me but not everyone likes needles / injections so I’d agree that I think it’s a bit rude shooting up in a restaurant, whatever the reason. Easy enough to be done with a bit of subtlety…

I hate needles and injections but thankfully my neck and eyes remain fully usable so I’ve retained the ability not to look directly at things that my “upset” me.

    Oh… they’re all ba5tards.
Err, I wouldn’t go there if I were you. Not after what happened to me a few pages back.

Why inject at the dinner table at work? Its not one of those ‘freedom/lifestyle choices’ that needs to be vaunted. For some people have a needle phobia, cleanliness etc etc. Just no need.

I was in the pub once and a mates husband did this infront of us. He said when you need to go you need to go. True and tbh in a pub where else is clean? However work……

It’s like taking a piss or being naked, both healthy and hygenic, but probably liable to make people uneasy in a public dining room.

Absolutely not, I’m needle-phobic ever since I got a knife pushed right through the back of my hand. Can’t ever watch a needle going in, can’t even look at hyperdermics without feeling queasy.

I’d explained this to her but she told me it was just because I wasn’t used to it, then made a big song and dance about doing it in full view, drawing attention to herself in the process.

I excused myself – rather than be made to feel ill – and the date never really recovered. This resulted in her getting paralytic. The woman was a complete tool and is still single.

She was fit though, so I did the decent thing and knocked the back out of her. 😉

So look the other way? Fair enough if she made a big scene to get everyone’s attention, but that would be rude regardless of what she was doing. Normally I’d go somewhere out of the way, but sometimes needs must. I can’t think of a place I wouldnt inject, as I am fully and acutely aware of the consequences of not.

Erm, how about having enough respect for the person that’s taken you out to dinner and maybe just finding a quiet corner if it was absolutely necessary???

Or does diabetes have direct impact on manners and social skills as well as an inability to produce insulin?

    tomhoward

No, but I (and I imagine others do) value my health over other peoples view of my ‘manners and social skills’. Like I said, I’ll try to be descreet, but that’s not always possible. It’s not as if she asked you to inject her.

I think this attitude is symptomatic of a modern society where everyone is hell-bent on exercising their “rights” without a second thought to their responsibilities or other people’s feelings.

I’m perfectly within my rights to defaecate in my own hand and smear it all over my face, but I wouldn’t do it on a first date or in a busy restaurant.

No, you made a big song and dance about it.

For future reference- avert your eyes, or if you’re that squeamish, you politely leave the table, as it is you that has a problem.

Ironically, this is exactly what you’re doing by making people with a medical issue feel like freaks. Why do you think you have a right to object to someone else going about their life? What else should be shut away because it might be offensive to someone?

Pretty sure that would be covered under the public order act were you to do it in public, so no you aren’t. Feel free to try though.

Do you have to do it multiple times a day, in order to stay alive? Again, feel free to do so.

    Moron 🙄

edit: As this is just going to descend into a slanging match, I’m out. Have fun kids.

It’s never crossed my mind that folk might be offended by diabetics injecting in public.

Are you sure she was paralytic? A hypo in some folk can appear the same.

Wrong. The overwhelming majority of people would rather not see someone injecting themselves whilst eating. Anybody with manners would have excused themselves and found a quiet area so as not to risk offending people they didn’t know who were paying to enjoy a dining experience in pleasant surroundings.

Anyone that thinks otherwise is a complete moron and deserves the total lack of respect that I was kind enough to bestow on the young woman in question.

And no, her life did NOT depend on doing it there and then. 🙄

2 gin and tonics washed down with a bottle of Pinot Noir, followed up with a large brandy… Yep, I’m quite certain she was paralytic. I was driving. 🙁
