    I reckon I could do that…. What’s the route?

    Jamie.

You is a racing snake. Much faster than me on the bike.

    I do not run.

Not by a long stretch. I am confident Molgrips, TSY, DGOAB, Mr Taylforth, Druidh and probably everyone else on the forum is faster than me.

I must admit, it’s good to be back running again. Just taking it nice and slow at the moment….well apart from the odd blip were I get carried away and inadvertently do a 6min/mile.

    NEWSFLASH –

I managed my inward 20 mile commute in 56m 50 secs!

    I’m really chuffed with that.

    *is really ******* chuffed*

Now for sub 50 min 😯

I dunno, Jamie.. those are fairly good stats up there…

I get carried away and inadvertently do a 6min/mile

    😯

If I attempted a 6 minute mile I’d need carrying away half way through!

    Yeti – good.. route please?

Only riding a while and he’s already approaching 20mph averages. Awesomeness.

My buddy and I averaged 18 on the Étape. Was quite pleased though a few fellow competitors were nearly as cruel as you lot. Few sniggers about my saddle not being visible and see through shorts. 🙁

That is impressive TSY – well done! I used to do 17.5 miles in around an hour and be fairly chuffed. Was on an MTB with slicks, but not much in that.

How can I show you the route?

I don’t have any GPS or owt.

Just tell me where you went, roughly. I bet it was one of those nice TT friendly Thames Valley flat routes…

    TheSouthernYeti

Yeah, it’s pretty flat… net climb on the way in though.

    Witney/Curbridge/Ducklington/Kingston Bagpuize/East Hanney/Steventon/Milton (Park).

Door to Door just over 20 miles so I gave myself a bit of a warm up first.

If anyone wants me off the forum I’ll be the bloke riding home in pink lycra 🙂

It is what it is, nothing chosen to help….

….here is the route with exact start/finish points chopped off.

You really should invest….best thing I ever bought for my running/riding/hiking etc. Especially routing my rides. Does not have to cost the earth, as a 305 would be good enough and they are about £100 on Amazon.

Jamie not bad with what looks like suburban riding in it…

Yeti nice.. seems you take a slightly longer route than necessary?

Congrats you thunder stealing bastard buddy!

Jamie not bad with what looks like suburban riding in it…

Indeed. Several sets of traffic lights (got lucky on these today), roundabouts and a busy A-road to cross.

    TheSouthernYeti

Yep. It’s all about doing 20 miles 🙂

And a bit about riding on quieter roads… you’d be insane to ride along the A34.

Sorry Jamie. I did jump a set of lights on a bridge over the Thames to keep my speed up!

*doesn’t mention still being in pain from cardio marathon on Monday*

*didn’t mention being in pain from playing 90 mins of badminton last night*

Few sniggers about my saddle not being visible and see through shorts.

My cycle shorts came from Lidl, so I know your pain.

…well not the saddle being visible part, but then we know you’re lying about that bit.

Yeah, it’s white. So, the contrast helped for some.

    Jamie – I didn’t mention that!

I bought a tri magazine and it said to concentrate on getting my RPM high… about 90-100. Checked in spinning classes and this is the approx cadence I pedal at now.

    Harumph.

    TheSouthernYeti

    Why’s that a mistake?

Except for the fact that it’s made me start looking at wetsuits.

Sometimes the big busy roads are very fast to ride though. A4 between Newbury and Theale being an example.

oh my 1st half catch on STW 🙂

it’s my roadie influences coming through where I shouldn’t like triathletes as they can’t ride bikes and cause crashes at races

I always found the A580 the best road to ride down, the traffic do 60 past you and the continous tail wind it generates helps out a lot! It would make 2-3mph average difference on my commutes over using the cycle path at the side of it.

    TheSouthernYeti

😆 Does that mean I’ll lose all my skill if I start doing triathlons?

Molly the A34 would be suicide. Plus riding crap surfaced back roads all adds to the challenge 🙂

Indeed. Some of the roads I ride make my teeth fall out. Price worth paying for deserted roads though.

…probably should get my wheels checked at some point really.

    molgrips

Dunno the A34 but the A4 is very busy but very very wide so you’ve got tons of space really. Never felt threatened.

If there’s one thing I hate road riding it’s crap surfaces 🙁

The A34 is very close to being a motorway. It’s the main arterial route taking traffic north to south equidistant between the M25 and the M5. Effectively it links the M1, M40, M4 and M3.

    molgrips

I know it is by the M4/M3, didn’t realise it was like that all along…

You wouldn’t catch me riding the A34.

You’d certainly see me if I was though.

Is there a recipe list of interesting pulse based dishes?

    molgrips

    I just made one.

1/2 tsp each of chilli powder, black pepper and cayenne pepper, bit of salt, tbsp of olive oil. Heat for a bit, then dump in a tin of ‘weiss’ beans, whatever that is in the UK – white beans? Heat up for a bit, then I tossed in some shredded bits of a spicy sausage and barbecued chicken that were left over and s good sprinkling of lemon juice at the end.

Took 5 mins and was lovely! I served it with some mixed veg.

    Good job Yetster.

I got an emergency call from Mrs Grips so went hammer and tongs… didn’t break the record though, tired from yesterday and the weekend.

So, I am doing the idave diet and being pretty strict, but on sunday I am riding in a 103 mile sportive, Sunday is my cheat day, do I need to carb load Saturday? Or will I be ok carrying on as normal on the diet?
    Cheers

Have a normal carb-load Sat night, big carb/protein breakfast Sunday and carbs during the sportive

    – see it’s not a low carb diet……
