I don’t understand this “That’s not a corner you overtake on” from Red Bull
That’s not what they said, though. They said “it’s not a corner where you stick a wheel up the inside”. Which (to my mind at least) means if you’re going to make a move, you’d better have it all wrapped up good and proper, because a half-hearted attempt is what’s dangerous. We’ve seen plenty of overtaking at Copse, especially in recent years, but it has to be signed, sealed and delivered.
I think part of the issue here is the two setups: the Red Bull has been a fair bit faster in the corners all weekend whereas Mercedes have been running less wing. That meant Verstappen was later on the brakes, which is where it started to unravel. They were very, very briefly level—or seemed to be—and then Hamilton had to scrub speed first.
Racing incident? Yeah. More responsibility at Hamilton’s door? Yeah. Mainly it was just a shame that it’s a bit of a disappointing way for that battle to go.
Was hoping Norris would make the podium, but hey, Leclerc did an outstanding job.
