    Umm, I argued like hell with him at first, then I took the time to research and I’ve taken SOME of his advice.

    Just back from a 3 hour sprint, long distance anaerobic is a bit tiring. How much cheesecake for recovery and when can I start breathing again???
    Molly, I sincerely suggest you get back to and focus on track cycling, I have a feeling that you’re well suited to going round in circles. 😆
    The quote I’ve taken is probably quite telling. I don’t think you have enough knowledge to put yourself in the position of only taking SOME advice, especially when I fear that you are picking up on the wrong bits.

    less so when i’ve cut down on sugars, more so now i’m snacking on sugars again at work.

    my willpower with food is terrible, always admitted that. my desire to maintain a reasonable level of base, not race, fitness means i exercise more than you though, so i dont beat myself up, or try to reason that i’d be faster if i fuelled my rides by twixes, cheesecake and coke.

    some dreams are just that… dreams. unless you do something seriously enough to make them achievable then they’ll stay just dreams. its nice to have dreams 🙂 one day i dream of being a dinosaur and stomping around with tiny little t-rex arms, maybe be a great white shark for a day… but i’m not kidding myself that they’re ever going to happen if i pretend to be a shark 4 hours a week.

    be a good dad, exercise for your health, diet for your health… health thats important if you want more time on this planet with your little girl.

    ride for fun, you’ve made it clear you’re not going to put the effort in to train for wining races.

    and stop trolling.

    haha jamies well short. he also runs pretty damn fast so i’m assuming he’s either a chubster who only runs downhill, or he’s a skinny guy pretending to be fat.

    bit like darcy, who used to pretend to be fat when he was thin, but now he is fat cos he’s having a baby. darcy is short too. and so is yeti. iDave however… is TALL and intimidatingly good at both endurance AND sprint rides. they all ate my potatoes, make of that what you will 😯

    There’s no way on earth I could ever do well at 5km or above. And where on earth do they do 100/200m competitions for 36 year old men?

    Most athletics clubs hold open meetings, they wont have all events you could definitely find senior men 100m events though.

    Out of interest what is your 100/200/400 PB?

    When I went to Wales and was playing footy I used to stay up front. i heard a shout of get back big man and naturally ignored it. I heard it again and realised they meant me

    i went back and one person was taller than me and he was English I am 5 ft 9

    i cooked us all a roast as our post ride meal, it included some roasted sweet potatoes and they all nommed it down.

    what make me very excited was the size of darcy’s bulging biceps, bigger that yetis! that BMF thing works well for him 😯

    I didn’t cherry pick which bits I fancied. I followed the plan, it didn’t give me enough energy, I modified it and had better results.

    Since then I’ve struggled with consistency for reasons of lifestyle. And I’ve tried a few different modifications to see if that helps me.

    ride for fun

    I’d hardly get anything done if that was my aim. The fun rides are the ones I am struggling to find time for. The rides I actually do are the ones I can fit in when I’m either away or the kids are in bed.

    FTFY. And this isn’t a moan, it’s a light hearted quip. Yes I know kids are time consuming etc etc etc before you find something else to mock me for.

    You’ve lost it completely if there’s no fun there, make them all fun rides and relax a bit more, get out with the missus and nipper on bikes instead, stop at pubs and have fun. Forget about being competitive, you can still race but you’ll need to do what most of us do and accept mediocrity.

    Got any tips for how to make a 45 minute session in the dark and rain fun? It’s pointless if you aren’t training, but training gives it a goal and purpose.

    Re riding with the family, well of course I’ve thought of that.. we get out when we can but Mrs Grips is no great rider, and she won’t ride in bad weather which scuppers things a bit lately.

    Likewise Mrs 16. It’s great when we can all ride together, but it’s still fun (if dark and rainy) when it’s just me.

    The rain isn’t that bad, I’ve just done 23 road miles in it, the last half was torrential, I’m feeling all warm and fuzzy after a hot shower and lunch

    This is getting totally pointless. 5 pages of spurious advice I never asked for. I understand the issues far better than any of you lot and yet you are all queueing up to tell me what to do, ranging from ‘give up fattie’ to ‘get on with it’.

    Most of you have totally misunderstood my entire point, but keep on going anyway.

    important, sensible advice that is right there.

    so agian, DO YOU THINK YOU CAN WIN RACES? ARE YOU WILLING TO DO WHAT IT TAKES TO WIN THEM?

    i dont even want you to answer those two questions, i just want you to think hard about the answers and either take some action or go be a good dad and stop chasing a dream that you’re unwilling to give up your lifestyle to attain.

    i’m not telling you to spend less time with your kids or telling you to train more, i’m telling you to use your big brain to try and gain some self-awareness, work out what you REALLY want then do something about it instead of trolling STW.

    I’m not coming up with reasons not to do stuff.

    I’ve said what my constraints are, what things are making things difficult, and how I try to get round them. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn’t.

    I don’t know why you lot are continually reeling off obvious statements like I somehow need it. It’s ridiculous, and it makes me look like something other than I really am. Which is why I’m trying to explain over and over again, cos like I say I can’t stand to be misrepresented.

    I’ve not moaned once, just explained how it is. Not blaming anyone else, not deciding I can’t do it. I do think I can do it, and this is me trying. I can’t understand these allegations of excuse making.

    Where did I say ‘I can’t train because of X or Y’?

    I’ve told you I can’t train 20 hours a week, if that’s what you mean.. but I’m the one saying I can still train and be quick. It’s you lot that are telling me to give up!

    excuse – a reason not to do/achieve something.

    they’re all excuses.

    if you weren’t frightened, you’d have entered some races, if you can spend time on STW at work then you can spend time googling races to enter.

    i wont enter races as i have no desire to enter races, if you want to win races then entering them is kinda essential.
