Oh and lightsabers aren’t laser swords, they’re plasma swords, using the same technology used in Power Balance bands.
Wow. I thought they were driven by Snake Oil™ and nonspecific Woo.
simons_nicolai-ukFree MemberThere’s a space weapon theory that says destroying another planet is remarkably simple and doesn’t require a huge amount more tech than we have already.
From Rob Manuel –
“I’ve been reading about relativistic weapons – a theoretical weapon that consists of speeding up a heavy object to say 1/3rd of the speed of light and aiming it at a planet. The fun of them is you can’t stop them as a. you’re dead by the time you know about it and b. blowing them up means you’ve got millions of fragments flying at you at the same speed and that’s equally if not more deadly.
Relativistic weapons get even more fun when you realise that we can possibly build them RIGHT NOW or at least soonish – you need a big lump of rock and an accelerator. There’s not much friction in space so in theory should you have a nice long life powered source like a lump of plutonium you can keep accelerating and eventually reach speeds that would, if decelerated quickly through a massive impact would release stupendous and destructive amounts of energy.
BANG!
So, ok we can build our own planet destroyer – we could call it a Death Star, so what? Well, it’s one answer to the Fermi paradox. That’s the observation that considering the amount of the universe that we estimate to be habitable – then why is it so damn quiet?
Maybe it’s so quiet because once you realise other things are out there and could easily destroy you, in fact for the survival of their own species it’s probably in their best interests to destroy you, the only winning move is to sit in the dark and stay very quiet indeed.”cbikeFree MemberI wondered if the First Order had taken their interior design inspiration from the Royal Conservatoire Scotland Logo
Could it be a graphic designers S W mirrored? Tenuous!

This sounds good but I don’t understand it
bikebouyFree MemberI’m going to watch it for a second time tonight.. again in 3D.
You lot are really spoiling it for me what with all this speculation n stuff.
Pipe down.. 😀
breatheeasyFree MemberDid Carrie Fishers face ever move during the entire film? Words seemed to come out without any visible movement…
back2basicsFree Memberinteresting fact on interwebby that a concept for TFA that Anakin would return as a force ghosts switching between light and dark , always in turmoil …..
leads me to think perhaps they took that idea and ran with……………..
………. Snoke is force-resurrected Darth Vader………….

Did Carrie Fishers face ever move during the entire film? Words seemed to come out without any visible movement…She definitely tilted it to one side a few times
brakesFree Memberwhat I’d really like to know is how people can stand being around Chewbacca, let alone embrace him.
the greasy beast looks like he’d smell like a thousand dead dogs marinated in Jabba the Hutt’s fetid entrails.slackaliceFree Member………. Snoke is force-resurrected Darth Vader………….
Ooooh! I’m liking that one 😀 Which would also account for the crispy DV mask that Ren had…
Makes me think.
Harry_the_SpiderFull Memberwhat I’d really like to know is how people can stand being around Chewbacca
One word.
Tagnuts.
Tom_W1987Free MemberYou really weren’t paying attention, were you.
Yes, it’s bigger than the first one, which was the size of a small moon. The new one is a planet, engineered to enclose an electromagnetic weapon. That’s why there’s snow on it, it’s a planet! There is no sun inside, the ship/planet pulls into whichever star system it wants to ****up, then uses the systems own star to destroy it, manipulating the electromagnetic fields to focus the star’s material via the ship’s weapon, ultimately destroying the star in the process, this was actually described in the film. They said it used the “sun”, so I just assumed they had built it around one. Obviously I wasn’t listening 😀 I was probably just thinking “ZOMG X-WINGSSSSSS PEW PEW PEW” – because I still loved it – even if it was a blatant rehash.
I’ve just bought tonnes of this
and my wife has started playing it…I is in heaven. 😀
back2basicsFree Member………. Snoke is force-resurrected Darth Vader………….
…or a CLONE from his DNA from his burned mask ?
BoardinBobFull Member………. Snoke is force-resurrected Darth Vader………….
Or a force-resurrected Emperor…
eddiebabyFree MemberYay! The weather is so indifferent I’m not going riding, I’m going to Cineworld to see Star Wars again.
FuzzyWuzzyFull MemberYeah surely he’d be a more force-resurrected Palpatine rather than Vader?
jekkylFull Memberso… late to the party I saw it at the Imax yesterday in Manchester, fantastic. I reckon they are twins… Luke / Leia …. Ren / Rey…!
but if this were the case you might have expected some recognition from Solo?! so either he doesn’t know, not his or he didn’t twig. BUT if Rey was Luke’s daughter then that would explain her being left on a planet (a little) because Jedi are not supposed to procreate plus then we would get a ‘I am your father moment’ Regardless, we’re going to see Luke fight in the next one after training Rey so double jedi fights with huge jumps and cool stuff happening defo.So who is this snokes guy? I can’t think of anyone from the previous films who they could make him out to be. a burned jarjar perhaps? lol. I reckon he’ll be quite small though, like the size of a dwarf. Perhaps we’re overthinking it and his story will be explained in the next two movies.
johndohFree MemberI reckon they are twins… Luke / Leia …. Ren / Rey…!
I think that’s a given especially with the way General Leia hugged Rey towards the end of the film.
BUT if Rey was Luke’s daughter
No, she is Han and Leia’s daughter.
If Luke and Leia were her parents… 😯
PrinceJohnFull MemberI can finally post here after watching the film last weekend and then taking all week to get through the thread.
Rey obviously has some connection to Luke, his light saber called her.
Ben solo is pretty crap at using the force, fin has been trained all his life in combat, so it’s not inconceivable that he can hold his own in a light saber fight against him.
Could Rey be being controlled during her force moments by Luke from a distance? Would explain how she was using the force so well after just discovering her powers. Also as a side note, there was an interesting fan theory that jar jar was going to be the big bad, hiding in plain sight, influencing all the key moments and handing power to senator palpatine, but after the fan reaction to him Lucas bottled it…
dannyhFree MemberSo, I’ve finally seen it and the big question is……..
Do we reckon Yoda ever had a bash on that Maz Kanata back in the day?
I reckon he would have, the old dog.
eulachFull MemberSo I went back for another look without all the expectation and it really is quite good.
I stand by my comments regarding new spaceships.MrSmithFree MemberI hope they get a new focus puller on the next one, I lost count of the times it was off, whisps of hair at the back of the head pin sharp and the eyes way off. They have obviously got lazy with a direct feed from shooting digital and need to up their game. It’s no good getting the rushes back the next day to find its off and you can’t re-shoot.
I can understand the decision to shoot on film and why they want to get the feel of the old films back and had panavision make some new anamorphic lenses but I didn’t see anything that couldn’t be achieved with an Alexa and a set off off the shelf primes.
Not a fan of 3D so unlikely to see it but I bet that was a bit shonky too presuming it was not done with a second camera just digital effects.back2basicsFree Member…anyone want to lay any money on the full vader suit being resurrected by Kylo Ren once he becomes a Sith?
Two things concern me – one, the rewrites for the next film (and beyond) and the every present rumours that Obi Wan is getting his own movie.
This could tie 2 things together…1. obi wan’s movie set a few years before A new Hope and shows a recent wife/partner – kid involved who also heavy Force user grows up and has Rey then gets killed off, Leia takes Rey on.
2. the rewrites for the main series is because they can also have point 1 above as a new movie (and rake in more cash) and it still fall in line with the EP 9 too, as well as moving away from the obvious plot point that everyone thinks Rey is Lukes daughter — and moving away from plotlines that have been done to death in the original Star Wars series.
