Ransos rattrap – you should really do your own research properly:

The source given for that wikipedia info predates the BBC article detailing the release of the information regarding the flotilla. i.e. the secret info had not been released when the wikipedia infor was written

Imagine what good could be done in the world if people put their efforts into some sort of positive action? Or they could celebrate a death with their empty words and continued inaction and perpetuate the problems they claim to stand against.

Bandit – the existence of op Journeyman was not news to anyone

its the fact that op journeyman was a bluff – they never actually removed the Argentinian forces from Corbeta Uruguay, but left them there undisturbed, as callaghan refused to use force – that led to the Junta believing they had the upper hand in ’82

It was a secret operation, so yes it was news. The wiki link you posted makes no mention of it.

The junta believed they had the green light in ’82 because the Thatcher government failed to do what Callaghan did – dispatch a Navy taskforce when they started saber rattling.

good riddance to bad rubbish – single handedly ruined the north of England. Miners have now won 1-0 AET

If it was a secret operation, how did it deter them?

Journeyman has been more than well known about for years

It remains as a fact, that the Argentine military outpost remained on Southern Thule throughout the period, unopposed.

I suggest you go away and read the Franks report.

Anyway – back to the point – Thatcher:

Heard the phrase, ‘the British disease’ recently? No? – Mrs Thatcher’s doing.

Heard the phrase, ‘the sick man of Europe’ recently? No? – Mrs Thatcher’s doing.

Let us also pause to remember the Social Security Act 1986, the disdain that she had for football fans even before Hillsborough, with her attempt to force fans to enrol in the Football Membership Authority scheme, as well as the fact that she wanted a national ID card scheme as part of the machinery for enforcing the Poll Tax. Fortunately events blew up in her face.

This site is a joke at times. If I slagged off some of the RIP threads on here like people have on this one then I would be banned and post removed.

RIP she did some bad, but a lot of good too for the country.

now I assume the mods will ban most people on here !

I think this is probably most restraint Thatcher thread I have ever seen on here, despite the fact that her fan club have been trumpeting what a great gal Maggie was.

You must be very sensitive. Though I think it’s a bit unnecessary to celebrate anyone’s death, I’m surprised (with a very few exceptions) at how well most posters are conducting themselves.

Oh, and her influencing the Wilts police to break some heads in the mid-eighties Stonehenge conflicts. The Battle of the Beanfield is not forgotten, nor are the rest of her crimes.

Which I thought was excellent 🙂

Regarding the Brighton bombing, maggie got her revenge in Gibraltar, didnt she? 😆

For all the arguing, I don’t care she’s dead. Just another old woman. Loads die every day.

    The unions did that.

yes of course the unions ruined the north of england. the unions closed down the manufacturing industries and then eroded their own power enabling capitalists to force down the value of wages over the coming decades. that’s exactly what unions do isn’t it ?

Utter rubbish. You need to understand simple economics if you are deluded enough to think that mining was sustainable in this country.

Well it would have been more sustainable had it not been for the unions.

yes i’m 1000000% confident that the trade unions did nothing to force down wages or close factories since 1979.

You need to understand simple economics if you are deluded enough to think that mining was sustainable in this country

and you clearly have no understanding of simple economics if you think that taking the economy out of the economy is sustainable.

The heavy industry areas of the country were probably on the ropes, but a nice government would have realised this was coming and worked to move into different areas, or to find other ways to build on those skills.

Not just pull the plug and leave the people to their own devices.

Democracy. This is me, these are the policies.

Opinions are like arse holes everyone has one. However informed opinions are few and far between.

She did a lot of good, she caused misery and hardship. Those were the times then and she left the country in a better place than she found it.

She denationalised the buses and national express,
she sold off British rail, british gas, brtitish telecom, national carriers, huge bits of the health service, think cleaning, transport, supplies etc,se sold of British rail engineering, british leyland truck bus and car, and systematically destroyed the unions, the miners, public services, fire brigade and lots more.

But she was a great leader until those who actually trun the contry realised what all us socialists had realised many years ago , SHE HAD LOST THE PLOT AND STORYLINE.

She had to go and go she did with a huge push.

REST IN PEACE Mrs Thatcher, you achieved a lot, and destroyed a lot of people lives, homes and industries, but then again you where in your little world totally away from the rest of the uk.

Where as now were all in it together unless youre a multimillionaire politician as we have now.

    Goodbye.

Project. The railways act was in 1993.

British Leyland was nationalised in 75 because it was in financial trouble. I.e. it was a dog. The public footed the bill.

Is this right? We foot the bill a la banks allover again? Hence later it was broken up as it was a bloody financial mess.

    IS that THATCHERS fault?

Old woman dies and you want to celebrate? Some pretty sad and bitter characters on here id say if thats the case.

I personally don’t give a toss either way about her death, but find this thread really quite depressing.

Mrs Thatcher was trying to get the country to be self dependent rather than depending on the state for handouts or being held ransom by minority groups. She did the right thing but as usual the society / country could not hack it so placed all blames on her … as usual … apart from themselves.

    *turns off computer*

It’s not going to be a pleasant day on the internet for the rest of it.

Just turned my internet back on (6pm) as I’ve had it off to get on with work today and just found this.

Shame, I liked her but I think it was her time.

I remember when I was in school and the teachers announced her retirement. I was the only kid who didn’t dance around cheering.

she left the country in a better place than she found it.

Except in terms of economic growth, government spending, unemployment, tax burden, wages, housing, crime levels, and a few other things.

Of course for a few very wealthy people she did make Britain a better place.
