Here are two genuine actual female cyclists who put their point across very well (bless them) in the Evans FB comments:
Rebecca Pritchard: Great to see some men understand how damaging it is, especially to girls, to use women as decoration especially as women’s human rights are decreasing for the first time in 100 years. Girls are already inundated with messages about how they’re only purpose is to look good and that they are inadequate at this.
Anne Knott: This isn’t about the actual content of the video. It’s disappointing because it aligns mountain biking with a sector that has historically promoted the exploitation of women in a variety of guises. It further embeds the notion that mtb is a male sport and, as others have pointed out, it alienates potential participants who don’t like this move (male and female). I know it was probably just seen as a bit of fun, but it was a serious error of judgement on Danny’s part. Danny also needs to remember that he appeals to the younger market and therefore has a responsibility toward them and their parents. All the folk out there whose comments support this: do you have a daughter/sister/mother? Would you rather she was kicking ass on a mountain bike, or flaunting her ass for the pleasure of other men? Right then. Come on Danny, you’ve got the skills to pay the bills, you don’t need this rubbish.
Personally I’m quite happy to align myself with those viewpoints.
If you’d rather be on the Its-PC-Garn-Mad side then take a good look around at your fellow commenters:
No doubt Singletrack have got a bird running their Twitter feed.
..
They’re jealous because they didn’t get to go to the play boy mansion and go balls deep in all those bunny ‘s like Danny and the film crew did.
..
Obvs the editor is a lady, or gay, it’s just a bit of fun
..
that’s why their upset, they might like old man balls instead of nice looking woman.
