I saw American Made was leaving Netflix, so thought I’d give it a go. Enjoyed it enough to go read about Barry Seal after it ended. Reminded me a bit of Howard Marks (other than it being about 10x as bonkers!). I think the film just about gets away with ‘based on real events’… still was an enjoyable couple of hours.

I’m thinking of giving up on The Boys – just watched the first 1 and a half  Episodes of S4

The acting is superb, especially Homelander and some parts are very clever but the violence is becoming far too gratuitous and too frequent. I mean obviously it was always violent mostly just cartoonish gore and often tempered with proper humour. It was kind of violence for those that don’t really like violence but now it feels they are going for the John Wick crowd – which is not me.

EDIT American Made is a great film, a typical off kilter Cruise movie that he does so well like EOT and Collateral

I think it was binners who mentioned the film “Reality” on Prime? We’d just watched Glory Road to catch up on where Furiosa ended, needed something more thoughtful and gentle, so did a search for “Reality” – didnt matter if we searched by typing it or by voice – all the search would show was reality TV shit, top result being the Kardashians! Amazon’s search system is seriously bad, must only give the most popular rubbish for mouth breathers ,or something. Bit like my new Samsung TV who’s idea of popular channels to show “what’s on now” was similar, reality, cop chase shows, garbage like that. Hmm! Rant over.

We did watch Reality, by scrolling through the film list (and what do ya know, it was actually “free” 🤔) Good film though, quite bewildering. Partner grew up in the USSR said the yanks are as bad as they were back in the 70s!

Top Boy is excellent. I know I’m late to it, but it’s outstanding,

Anyone waiting these past 2 years to see it all finally kick off when the new season of House of The Dragon starts, you have at least one more week to wait 😂

yes, I’ve just watched it. What I mean is

    Spoiler for
yet more build up, i.e. not kicked off in a massive ruck yet! 😃 Good ep though, held my interest.

I need to re-watch at least the last few eps of S1 though! After this long, I could only really remember Matt Smith & Prince Eyepatch, didn’t have a clue who some of the other characters were 🤣 Doesn’t help that a load of them have really similar names.

Quite liking Sweet Tooth at the moment. Couple of episodes into series 1. Pretty quirky. 🙂

Not sure if it’s been recommended already – American Fiction (included with! Prime) is great. Read a few things about it and tbh it didn’t sound that interesting, but once I started it, was riveted. Some really funny moments too.

Bumblebee Cumblebobbins as the alcoholic puppeteer was superb. Grim plot though.

Really old now, but, I watched Battleship with the kids. It did exactly what it said on the tin. But with aliens.

Not sure I’ll bother with House of Dragon. Series 1 was such a total yawnfest. Matt Smith stole an egg then gave it back. Can’t remember anything else happening. Wasn’t exactly chock full of “I’m going to have to eat every **** chicken in this room” type scenes either.

Just started Sweet Tooth. First episode felt pretty heavy going early on to the point where we almost gave up. Ten minutes from the end it lightened up. We’ll see how episode two goes…

the new season of House of The Dragon starts

I watched ep 1, absolutely no idea what was going on or who most of the people are. Had to go back and read recaps of S1 for it to make any sense. It’s going to have to stop all the plotting and move along to the action or I’ll be out.

I know, I know….. It’s on iPlayer not Netflix – but I believe I need to bring your attention to “The Cops”. 3 Series, originally broadcast by the Beeb in ’98 and pretty much never repeated and unavailable on DVD or streamers….. Until now!

Thank me later if you didn’t watch it first time around 😉 . Or even if you did!

I’ll thank you now! I remember this from the first time it was shown, I’m looking forward to seeing how it’s held up.

Watched Axel F last night, not actually terrible (better than 3!) I wouldn’t bother though if you aren’t a fan of the first two as it leans really heavily on those – recycling not only characters but music, locations, dialogue, entire scenes almost! I was genuinely surprised that no-one had got a banana in a tailpipe by the end ? And how is Taggart still a serving police officer? He’s in his late 70s but looks about 90 ?? Genuine lol at Bronson Pinchot’s scene but otherwise not many standout moments. Kevin Bacon is good though as a new character.

Dammit, Fallout is blimmin great! No idea about games, but like Last of Us you don’t need to to enjoy this. Wassername off of Yellowjackets (watch that if you haven’t!) is a proper star.

The Beekeeper (Jason Statham) is supposed to be on Prime now but I tried to get it last night and got “this video is currently unavailable” although it allowed me to watch the trailer.

Trying to find it today, it’s nowhere to be seen.
    Anyone else find it?

    ??

Anyone else think the Oura ring thing ad during The Boys was a fake ad and part of the programme?? What weird shite is that?!

No idea if it’s been mentioned on here before but Mr inbetween on Disney is one of the best series on TV (in my opinion) if you like gritty but funny Aussie stuff. oh and the series ‘Wayne’ which is free on YouTube is well worth a watch

Recently started watching Supacell on Netflix. Sarf London drug gangs kicking off and spilling into other people’s lives… but some of the characters have superpowers. Watchable for sure. Very fruity language for a 15, so beware if you’re fire this up with a young’un.

I’ve watched 4 eps of the new series and not sure what you mean.

Unlikely that we all get served the same adverts.

Sprint is good. On the plus side you get an insight into the tough life of an athlete. On the minus side – especially the Americans – there are some horrible personalities / egos.

    I enjoyed Supacell also.

Ah, interesting! I wonder why I get fed this garbage, when I’ve never bought a Fitbit, or any other similar “health” device from Amazon (or anywhere else)!

This is the thing, though not the actual Amazon ad, can’t find that

Supacell was great, one of the best things I’ve seen in ages. Mash-up of Top Boy & The Boys! Nice original take on the superhero genre. Not been renewed for a second season yet, but fingers crossed.

Also, House of the Dragon just got vaguely exciting. There’s hope yet!

It was a rip-off of Heroes.

Common people discover that they have super powers. Their lives intertwine as a devastating event must be prevented.

Lady Jane on Prime is a bit of an arch laugh. Not enjoying the new series of the Boys. It just feels a bit tired. I did enjoy Axel F though. Proper trip down memory lane and much better than the mid-90s Beverly Hills Cop film (which was goppingly bad).

Never revisit old movies you loved as a teenager. I remember BHC as a classic of the 80s. No way am I going to rewatch it to see how crap it actually was.

Assassination Nation is on Ch4 tonight. I thought it was great and different. But then I seem to like Sam Levinson’s stuff, a lot of people don’t.

Was struggling with House of the Dragon series 2 until this most recent episode, but it has got good all of a sudden, brilliant battle scenes with the dragons attacking each other.

Just finish watching the OA on Netflix, such a shame it got cancelled after 2 series, such a weird and brilliant series and different to anything else i have seen.

Also i think i am “punish watching” the new Star Wars series The Acolyte, it is so dull… i don’t know why i am watching it bar passing time sat on turbo when it was chucking it down.

Funny how smiting getting done makes for a better show than people in dimly lit rooms talking.

Watched most of it earlier this year, it’s fine.

Still the only show that’s done “weird” as successfully as Twin Peaks IMO.

To be honest i enjoy the “talking in rooms” and that was one of the things that made the original GoT brilliant, the often sharp and well written dialogue, i have just found the general pace on this series that bit slower, and the first 3 episodes have all just been dialogue heavy and not a lot else.

yes exactly, all the yap & intrigue etc leads you to become invested in the characters which makes their inevitable demise all the more traumatic/satisfying (depending on the character!) Although they haven’t really pulled that off at all in HotD (yet) unfortunately.

Just watched this one the BBC news channel, a documentary following Francis Bourgeois around, a pleasant way to wile away half an hour ?
