There’s several copies out. The best audio is in the one just over 2GB. Has passable 2.0 AAC.

    …a friend told me.

Main issues is jerky motion, maybe due to the conversion process/source.

    …he added.

That was my plan, but I just gave in. Now I don’t have to peek at the internet through my fingers for 4/5 days in case of spoilers on social media, here, reddit etc.

Plus the copy not being bobbins helped.

    b) Bitrate and compression algorithm. They seem to compress more than HBO in the US.

Sky’s HD bitrate is usually goshawful, unless you’re on the film and premium sport channels which have fairly reasonable bitrates. Some of the channels (news) have bitrate so low it is hardly worth the HD tag.

If it’s a film-based source (which GoT is), then any reasonable modern deinterlacer should detect it as such and do reverse 3:2 pulldown with absolutely no difference between 1080i60 and 1080p24

    I stand corrected.

Nah, when that thing happened with wotshisname, I thought “well this isn’t going to end well” and it didn’t.

Bitrate for Atlantic HD is pretty good
    http://en.digitalbitrate.com/dtv.php?mux=12148&pid=4901&live=69&sec=0&lang=en
    min:2 average: 7.5 max: 19.9

    That compares to BBC1 1.1 4.4 14.2

They’re variable so will depend on the demands of other stuff on the same mux that’s playing at the same time but that’s a good allocation. Still depends on the quality and settings of the encoders (athough those should be optimised by now and Sky should be able to get it right).

Saying that, lipsync on Ch4+1 has been terrible for me for years and it’s just that channel so can’t be solved with the delay settings or down to my equipment.

    Sky is 1080i not P?

    Correct.

Sky Q is 1080p (HD). Picture quality seems as it should be, but there have been some reports of sound issues on Sky Altantic that have backed up what I have noticed – the ‘level’ does seem low, and there were occasional sound glitches in the last episode. The glitches don’t repeat when rewound and played back though which suggests that it could be a ‘on demand/streaming’ issue. No idea why that would be specific to Sky Atlantic though. It might simply be that I don’t use ‘on demand’ enough to notice, more likely to download.

    Sky Q is 1080p (HD).

It’s not the box but the broadcast or internet stream that we care about. You set the output of the box to the best quality your TV can deal with. The box will then either pass through the stream unchanged or downconvert at the box if it needs to.

As someone has said above 1080i/60 is 60 half frames per second/effectively 30 full frames. 1080p/

Sure, not debating that, but someone above asked if ‘Sky’ was 1080i or 1080p. It was not clear if they were being specific about GOT on Sky, or the general capability of Sky/Sky Q. I guess we have covered both options now.

Is that the royal ‘we’? 🙂

That link shows 4.2 as the max for atlantic, compared to about 7 for sky sports, which is around the ratios I remember. By the looks of it that’s on astra 2f, and astra 2e is now up and running, with the higher bitrates.

I stopped being familiar with this stuff around the time the 2E went up…

Sorry – looks like i posted the wrong link as i had two tabs open. That’s the SD channel. The numbers i put (max 19.9) are the HD channel. on that site somewhere.

I watched a 1080p download of e06 on my projector and the picture was very good. The sound was only 2.0 rather than the usual 5.1 you get on decent downloads.

Although we’ve got Sky, I’ve actually been downloading all the episodes in HD on a Monday morning and watching them on Monday night in our cinema room. The picture is better, there are no adverts and my SkyQ box is only in the living room. I can phsically relocate it to use on the PJ but it’s a lot more hassle.

On season 7, although it’s great, I can’t help but feel they’re trying to pack in too much into every episode. Also, they keep on sticking in bits where someone magically pops up to rescue someone else i.e. Bronn saving Jaime from the fire breath. Furthermore, characters or even whole armies seem to cross Westeros with ease and magically appear in the right place at the right time. This starkly contrasts with all the tortuous journeys undertaken in seasons 1-6.

Whilst the first 6 seasons were based on books (although book 6 still hasn’t been released yet has it?) this is only based on a framework devised by George RR Martin AFAIK.

I can’t help feeling this story would be better told over more episodes – at least 10.

Nah, he’s too full of moral fibre to do something flakey like leak episodes.

As soon as I saw Gendry’s war hammer in episode 6 I thought Matt Easton’s gonna have a field day with this 😉

    I disagree. I think it’s all Bran. He’s a serial spoiler.

I hadn’t realised that an overview of every episode of this season had been leaked at the begining of the season.

Just watched it on HBO in Canada so as far as I’m concerned it’s time for discussion.

    Fantastic.

    More miraculous rescues though….

Yeah, hands up who went they are going to need a dragon to get out of this one…
Loved the hound lobbing rocks and then it falling short
    Arya scares me a bit
Little finger is still playing the game
The bit where Danny gets to see that Jon has taken sever knives to the heart kind of moves that along and they will have a very strong alliance with 3 heirs to the iron throne in the mix.

Though quite what you do about an dead dragon is another story, kind of hoped Danny and Jon would have taken a ride to Winterfell on the Dragon just to sort the northern stuff out a bit.
