Got a surprisingly good view of it in Marsden. Hardly any cloud at all once you got out of the valley, it looked ace. A certain very excited 6yo boy got to go in to school late after watching the action through eclipse glasses and with pinhole projection from the top of a hill. Sometimes being a dad is alright. 8)

just managed to catch the end of it, cracking break in the clouds, tried that pin hole thing, surprisingly worked brilliantly! 🙂

Well that’s that for 11 years (which will probably be the last time most of us will ever see one).

    speak for yourself grampa! 😆

I reckon a wee flight to spain could be in order for that one though! 🙂

At least our pics are of the current eclipse and taken in this country (unlike yours)

I think you’ll find it’s the same moon and sun though eh? 😉

That easyjet flight looks like it was fun!

This was my best effort (on the Downs in Bristol). Wasn’t as dark as I thought it would get, but all the dogs went off.

Some nice views with and without the solar filter through broken cloud. Probably the best way to view outside of totality in my view, The right level of cloud gives a nice change from the filter.
I’ve been lucky enough to see some lovely eclippses (sp) but never had a clear view of the corona. Fingers crossed for the next time.

Quality near Holmfirth with completely clear skies from about 0915-1000. Kids got an extra hour off school as I didn’t want to leave it to chance that the clouds would be clear or the teachers would give a stuff. Thumbs up at Mintimperial.

Specs all round and even a spare pair doctored to fit over the front of the binoculars.

    Proper awesome.

It was quite cloudy in West Lancs but the temperature drop was very noticable.

That was incredible, from the top of the Pentlands. Beautiful stuff before a full pelt charge down the hill.

    Apocalyptic Downhill. Awesome.

The cloud cleared in Bristol and its a stunning day now. I was up on a roof and got some good views looking through some eclipse specs, although I was expecting a repeat of 99 when it got quite dark.

I seem to recall Devon & Cornwall were the best viewing spots that year, whereas the South didn’t get as much coverage this time. Still good fun though and the birds seemed to be a bit freaked out when I was walking into work.

Lazy link to the event as seen by The Riders on the Malvern Hills this morning. Eerie morning twilight in the east, quiet and quite lovely. PS feel free to like my page 🙂

Was cloudy but good South of Bristol, my 3 year old called it the “moon sun” which delivered on aesthetics and solar reality I think!

I rode up to the top of Cragg Vale on the way to work to watch it. Luckily there was just enough cloud so that you could look at it with only sunglasses. It did get bloody cold, and the light was quite eerie.

I asked my 10 year old if they were going to watch it at school, and she said yes they were and that her teacher had told them to bring sunglasses in 😯

I missed a load of it as I was having a massive shit 🙁 😆 I got out on the road bike in time to see some of it though.

Made a short stop motion video of it for e-mailing around the school – of the BBC footage.

Quite amused by people showing their photos of the eclipse – there are much better ones on the web!

I know we aren’t a community where people are always gushing and positive

But surely there is some spirit of doing it for your self

I ride a bike when others are more skilled andf faster
I cook when I can eat out and have better
I take photographs when others can do better

But I enjoy all these things

    and

I’m enjoying all the eclipse photos

    Boooorrrriiiinnngggg !

    I mean soooooo boring.

Nothing, nadda, now’t, zip, squat, bugger all, nuffin, just cloud and a bit of dullness.

We walked all the way around Thorney Island to get a view, Ok so we knew it’d be cloudy but hey, we made the effort… I want my money back.

    Phah.

I slept through the whole eclipse I mean it is so nice to have day off and a good sleep. I will not get out of bed for this. Not even dramatic enough … no one went amok. 😀

Those silvered glasses can be a hazard, I nearly fell off the flat roof of our house in Kernow ’99.

Missed it this morning. So i have recreated the event, using a ceiling lamp and a dark chocolate digestive:

And just like the real deal, you’ll have to wait a while to see another “eclipse” because i ate the “moon” shortly after the pic was taken……..

Did everyone remember NOT to look directly at Dr Brian Cox? You must always wear suitable eye protection, even when he’s not on screen.

Correct me if I’m wrong maxtorque, but the apparent size of your moon seems to be smaller than the apparent size of your sun, so you’d only get an annular, not a total eclipse.
