TJ, it’s YOU who is missing the point!

As I understand the original intention of A&A to be, it’s perectly acceptable provided that it shows genuine athletes competing in their chosen sport. There is no harm in that surely?

What’s not acceptable is the “phoarr, I’d do her” or “she’s got great knockers” comments but to be fair:
a) they normally crop up on other threads (eg specific threads about those people – there’s been several in the past like Nigella, Suzy Perry etc),
b) such threads and posts are usually dealt with preety swiftly by the moderators and
c) such comments are thankfully pretty rare anyway which suggests that you think the problem is much bigger than it actually is.

Take a look at this shot for example:

Two female track sprinters (one of whom has done various “provocative” photoshoots herself). I look at that and I’m not thinking about “doing her/them” or about their physical attributes, I’m admiring the precision, power and skill to ride a bike like that. I’d look at a pic of two male sprinters in the same way.

(just using track sprinting as an example, it could apply to preety much any sport).

If you find a post offensive then report it, there’s a button at the bottom just for that. But starting a thread like this just makes you look slightly foolish, like you’re trying to censor the site or dictate to people what they can and can’t post.

Pretty much, yes. A majority doesn’t necessarily constitute an authority. In this case, most folk who’ve opposed TJ have fundamentally missed the point of his argument, which is that STW should be a place free from sexism, misogyny and gratuitous sexual objectification. Very few have posted a decent counter argument, merely choosing instead to resort to insults and ad hominem attacks. Pathetic

I certainly don’t think it’s sexist to admire a persons looks, if anyhting it’s exatly the opposite.
And this current STW buzz word “misogyny” is totally, utterly the wrong one to use. Go look it up in a dictionary like I just did. It means “a hatred of women” No more. No less. The A&A thread is EXACTLY, PRECISELY the opposite! It’s a homage to women! (And men) Using it makes one look like a pillock IMO, just trying to use big words to impress others, and failing very badly.

I disagree because I have a brain in my head and can think for myself. I don’t subscribe to his view because I think it’s wrong. I think he’s talking crap and trying to force that opinion on others.
He’s fully entitled to think what he likes, as am I. But what I’ve never liked is someone trying to shove their ideas down my throat. And that’s precisely what the title and OP of this thread is trying to do.
And that gets peoples backs up. TJ is an intelligent chap, no question, but he’s very blinkered and I feel a bit of a control freak too.

See the following quotes taken from a couple of recent AA/Kylie threads I have just skimmed through. Imagine if this was your daughter/wife at the receiving end. How would you feel, or, more importantly, how do you think she would feel?

Or how about this one of the ever-worshipped Kylie – who, in my opinion still looks fantastic despite going through cancer treatment and reaching the big 40. Oh no, perhaps not eh?

I don’t think any post at all in all 400+ has proved TJ wrong. I think a few have arbitrarily decided that they’ve proved him wrong, but they haven’t.

I’m on the fence about the A&A – in itself, purely as a thread subject, there’s nothing wrong with it – but week in, week out, it turns into a “just how far can I go with this” (of which I’ve been guilty myself, but in an ironic post-modern sense, don’t you know 🙄 ) and inevitably, somebody posts a picture of a random hottie on a bike to upset the apple cart. Somebody else comes in with borderline sexist comments – often I’m guessing, just to wind TJ up.

Then Uncle TJ can’t help himself – in he comes with the Beth Ditto pics and everybody jumps on his ass. What do you think is going to happen? TJ – say nothing? Where have you been all this time? Then we get a big row, people start calling one another names, it all gets very unedifying and then gets closed.

The forum had grown out of the A&A thread for months – even Flashy had given up introducing it each Friday. I didn’t miss it – as much because it had just got boring as for it turning into a childish bun fight.

This whole thing has become very undignified. A few of his detractors have shown themselves up a bit actually – I’m seeing some on this thread in a poorer light – I don’t think there’s been overt misogyny shown but certainly some latent lack of understanding of what sexism and misogyny are.

And here is one of the main points, it’s the job of the mods to decide what is appropriate or not, everyone has the right to an opinion and all threads have the right to exist, if you feel strongly enough about a thread you have the right to report it, TJ has overstepped this by deliberately trying to sabbotage the thread and brought much of the reaction upon himself.

congratulations TJ, this has made me chuckle so much in that with his opening comment TJ has managed to wind so many of you up pure genius. Time and time again TJ’s comments appear to wind so many up.
