Good question. I expect Jose would have been told Giggs is part of the scenery.

Jose brings instant success so I don’t expect next season to be any different, will have plenty money available. LVG deserved to go straight after he said the fans were expecting too much.

real issue is whether giggs wants to work under him or not.

I dont think Jose is a good fit for the club
He does not stay, he pisses folk off and he style is basically Lvg but more successful

he might win things but it wont be entertaining – press conference and court cases aside.

I’ll put this here instead of the other thread. Footieists have been fairly disciplined about keeping stuff to this thread this season.

It is poor form. Can’t understand, even with the dearth of class shown by football club owners these days, why this announcement* couldn’t have waited a few weeks.* They’ve just won the FA cup. I realise that Ferguson showed the competition a lack of respect over the years but jeez…

    *Share price maybe?

It’s the Glazers. How much class were you expecting?

As Theyve shown repeatedly since trey arrived. Only one thing matters. The balance sheet!

    Jose will be a disaster!

I thought the general view from Utd was that Mourinho isn’t an ideal fit , hence the hesitancy . However they cannot afford more failure with LVG (not making CL) so have had to act.

All these Jose stories lack class not just from the source, my guess is thats Morihno’s agent, but also from the papers/websites for publishing them. As for compensation I would imagie LVGs contract has an out if they fail to qualify for the CL

So plenty of matches where all the players roll about, crowd the referee, argue about every decision, its going to entertaining stuff

When Feegie retired, Jose was rumoured then. A reporter asked Bobby Charlton about it, and he adopted an expression like somebody had dropped their trolleys, bent over and let go a huge rasping fart in his face. Then he said, with some conviction: “Manchester United would never employ a man like that!”

    Well here we apparently are.

As Alan Davies said, the man is a walking narcissistic personality disorder.

He’ll turn up, he.mll reign It in and behave himself for a bit, then all the usual shenanigans will start, and it’ll all come crashing in. Like it always does, wherever he goes

I also imagine Mata must be packing his bags

He moved Mata on from Chelsea in a display of his power as manager, it is his MO, he needs victims to cement his authority, he is a bully.

Anyway onto current matters, England look dangerous going forward and look dangerous defending.

Also the timing was such Mata could’ve helped Utd who weren’t a rival at the time take points off his rivals.

It’s like watching Keegan era Newcastle!

I just said to the OH “there’s no way Tony Hart should be out that wide.”

    Genuine mistake.

Just caught up on the game.

An offside goal for England and Joe Hart trying to run into the crowd rather than stay on his line. To be fair, I guess he had to due to Danny ‘I’m really not that good’ Rose being out of position.

Business as usual then for England 🙂

Joe Hart should be used to having a somewhat shaky defence in front of him by now.

This. Mata should be smiling from ear to ear, waiting to see what big offers come in for him and just train and collect his wages.

Anyone else think Mourinho got himself sacked on purpose? There have always been rumours of him wanting Man U job.

IMO his style of football is not the Man United way (yawn) and United haven’t got the players to play the Mourinho way.

United haven’t got the players to play the Mourinho way.

    Really? I think they have.

Jose likes teams to absorb pressure and hit opponents on the break. In De Gea, Smalling, Shaw and Schneiderlin he has the foundations of a very good defensive spine, and in Herrera, Rooney, Martial, Depay, Rashford and Lingard he has the foundation of a good, fast counter-attacking lineup.

Utd have good players, the problem was LVG playing them in the wrong place. And Fellaini.

Mata might be moved on; Jose moved him on because he wasn’t fast enough to track back. Rooney and Herrera are.

Interesting counter argument to the ‘Jose plays dull defensive football’ spiel here

Jose teams suffer from burn out in season 3, this time he tried to go a bit easier pre season and ended up with the team unfit and under prepared. Throw in Hazards love interest falling out with Jose then marrying someone else and Costa refusing to play for him cause his mate Luis had buggered off back to Atletico and it all kind of imploded for him.

    interesting but just not true

I remember him doing a defensive sub when 1-0 up against 10 men – swansea i think. His default is to win 1-0

The last few Fergie years weren’t overly exciting if you recall. Many 1-0s over those seasons.

The cavalier, swashbuckling Utd peaked in 2008 – probably the best team the premiership has ever seen. Ronaldo, Rooney and Tevez up front ffs!

Since then there’s been a slow, inexorable decline, which simply sped up when Fergie left.

I think Jose gets unfair press with the defensive 1-0s, although I don’t have anything to back this up. I do however have no doubt in season 3 things will go very wrong!

Jose can be very pragmatic, even when his team is clearly dominating and will often play what hes sees as the “percentages” but he can also be inspired and ruthless.

I was in Spain once for the Copa Del Rey Real v Barcelona … Real spent the entire game with 11 players behind the ball in their own half, then Ronaldo scored on the break.

Man U fans are going to have to learn to love the style as its not going to be attacking football

That red card against Nani was a joke decision. Ruined a very, entertaining game that Utd probably would’ve won.

Jose has one philosophy and that is winning by any means. If that means 1-0 or kicking people off the park so be it. But surely Man U fans would prefer winning than a sterile possession philosophy that’s yielded nothing much of note.

yeah but while Ferguson was still arguing with the 4th official, Mourinho immediately brought on Modric changed the shape of his team 2 goals in 3 minutes. And he changed the team formation straight back once he had the lead.

I wonder who Utd fans had in mind when they were saying they didn’t want Mourinho.

Pochettino, Diego Sirmione or Laurent Blanc. At one point I was hopeful that rumour of LVG being booted upstairs to become director of football with Giggs as coach were true but sadly not.

Simeone for me is the best coach in the world right now but if you want to be constantly attacking he’s definitely not your man. Pochettino gaining great experience at Spurs so reckon he could be the long term choice after Jose if he continues as he is.

Endless moaning about the ref in Spanish Cup Final. Shots of all the managers going mad at every decision. Ruins it

If Mourinho starts the season winning games and gets them to (and keeps them at) the top of the table, they’ll be singing his name from the stands…there’ll be the odd nasal voice of course (from holding their noses, not just the accent). They won’t give two shits. Anyone who thinks they might is kidding him or herself. In the same way that Arsenal fans weren’t complaining when Graham was winning league titles and cups. Hell, they even sand ironic songs about it. I also think his defensive reputation is overdone a bit – Chelsea 14/15 anyone? Whemever he walks, and he will, sooner rather than later, he’ll be running or have been locked out the door of a burning house.

Zlatan is a very strange choice as a player- bit old for the EPL IMHO- never mind assistant manager which is a bonkers thought.

Zlatan’s wife doesn’t want to live in Manchester so it won’t happen. Maybe
