With a heavy heart I have just dug out my full length steel mug guards, steel fork and tiagra tripple groupset to build the winter bike back up.

    Lets see those winter hacks…

I use the same frame but change everything else, bit like Triggers broom.

It’s just my 853 featch built for me by Andy Thompson in 97 with salmon guards.
It’ll be doing my 40 mile commute tomorrow.

    Mine looks like this:

But with Planet-X forks, RS30 wheels, new 105 groupset and raceguards. So not much like it.

Group rides the one with gears, on my own the ss. Wash them if its muddy/wet.
The Langster now has open sports not the hideous stock wheels.
The Lynskey frame is now for sale as i need the money for my new kitchen (replacing with 2nd hand alu/carbon frame next week) 🙁

    My Ribble.

Never gonna set your heart on fire, but hey, it’s a hack bike.

Kinda tempted with stripping it down for one of their steel framed ones tho’

Ah there is a most cunning plan you see. Sometimes I do a bit of rough stuff and you can elevate those guards so mud and snow don’t get packed in there.
The inner….well sorry no excuse there, but it is a 42 and the cassette is 24 top so no nancy boy gearing here

what’s that rear exposure light like?
I’m tempted to get one but wondered if it draws much charge off the front?

I’ve only got my new bike for winter as well as summer riding, perhaps I should build my old (harsh) alu frame up again…

gotta have full length proper guards.

anyone claiming they ride their carbon what not all winter long clearly aint riding that often, or lives somewhere nicer than yorkshire weatherwise.

Or ride in groups. Not very nice riding with someone who hasn’t got mud guards.

Mine’s the same as my “summer” one..

currently covered in mud but still working, not sure I really get the point in having different bikes for each season.

indeed. flap wars ensure over here quite regularly. mine is an old ‘for sale’ sign…

    well… see above really.

    A standard Ribble:

    Now with extra flap:

I never really understood the point of a winter bike until I had one and was riding everyday. Makes a big difference to the longevity of the nice (and expensive) bike.

Thats a dynamo on the front too.

    This thread needs a Dolan…

Shimano 600 Ultegra group (from 1992 and still working perfectly) Open Pro rims and SKS Chromoplastic mudguards… A proper winter bike 🙂

Only modification between summer and road is that the bidon tends to freeze up when it’s cold.

I use mine all year round, why would frame material dictate what season you use the bike in?
