Friends we’ve known for over 30 years are coming for lunch. There will be napkins and a table cloth.

The cleaners have been and everything is tidied away.

Do I need to wear outdoor trousers or are my tartan lounge trousers acceptable?

They have pockets so definitely aren’t pyjama bottoms. I will be wearing slippers.

Normally I would have asked flashy direct but you lot will have to do.

Is this the sort of look you’re going for?

All my PJ trousers have pockets.

I’ll say no more, as you’ve not told us how close these friends are, or what sort of party you expect it to turn into 😉

Shouldn’t the cleaner attend after you murder the visitors?

Don’t oppress them with such excessive formality. Wear tracky bottoms,a string vest and a pair Crocs, that’ll put them at their ease.

I’d go with the red pajama bottoms.

Aside – what happened to the Captain?

The longer I’ve known people, the more they don’t get special treatment – at 30 years they might get to see me in my undies if they are very lucky – the clean ones mind, the other pair will be in the wash.

Flashy popped up last Christmas to wish us all a merry season of goodwill.

No pyjamas should ever be worn for a meal of any type. They are strictly for the boudoir or very late night wear just before going to bed.

At a posh ski chalet we witnessed a family coming down to breakfast in full nightwear. My auntie (of advancing years) was not impressed and had never witnessed such a thing (nor had the other guests or hosts).
