That horse dancing that was just on, how do they train a horse to dance??

See, I like horse stuff, I’m a bleeding heart leftie so I sometimes have a wobble when they get hurt but horses running fast as **** and jumping over shit and stuff is awesome, and it’s pretty much what they’re for. But there’s just something really unhorsey about dressage, it feels much the same as putting clothes on a cat. You can do it, but you know fine well they get slagged by their mates.

Dressage horses take no shit from anyone. Strong buggers!

Semi super Saturday. Got up for the climaxes, Farah tick, Rutherford ok a medal, is it worth staying up for Jess?

Head says silver sadly. No PBs for Jess, unlike Thiam.

Credit to the Belgian, really brought her A game on the day(s) with 5 PBs

If KJT can get her throwing sorted she’s got the potential to be better than both of them.

Spectacular performance from the young Belgian. Jess woukd have won had she matched her London total, long jump turned things around and Belgian kept her cool and looks a real talent. KJT has now seen the level required.

Huge congratukations to Jess, so close to defending her title and just 2 years after having her son.

A gold for Mo after a lie down and silver in the pool too 🙂 Long jump sounded like a great competition with all the lead changes too. Not quite at the level of 2012 but a super saturday

Dressage. Horses and riders spend so much time training, such a tough and technical discipline. Love the fact that some of the oldest Olympians are in the dressage in 2012 there was a 71yo Japanese and in Rio we have a competitor in their 60’s

Football is in the games as it (usually) sells lots of cheaper tickets and helps push up attendence and tv figures. Personally I have zero interest in Olympic football, golf, tennis or rugby

Golf can **** right off out of the Olympics.

    Why isn’t squash in there?

FWIW, I gather they’re thinking about including such asshattery as surfing and skateboarding in future iterations. There’s no way either of those should be included before squash. Or tiddlywinks, even.

Surfing and Skateboarding is probably at the upper end of the skill and athleticism spectrum. I don’t think it does anything positive for those sports.

Outside, fringe “extreme” sports don’t really fit alongside 10m airpistol or Dressage.

Not much to get excited about during the day today. It’s all quite addictive, don’t know how I’ll cope once it’s all over.

Couldn’t get off to sleep last night thanks to that awful guitar music that loops during the presentation ceremonies going around in my head

Just seen highlights of the weightlifting. All I can think about is what their knee joints are doing under the little bits of bandage. A few years of cycling and football and I can’t stand from a crouch without holding on to something! When those ‘snatch’ blokes are in their 50s will they be able to walk?!

So I guess there’s not point in a C’mon Justin Rose thread?

    (c’mon though)

Surfing is to be included at next Olympics. How come there’s no team GB footy team?

    Justin who?

Complex reasons for no GB Footy. The different home nation FA’s would have to join together, then they wouldn’t be able to then have separate English, Scottish & Welsh teams in other competitions.
On reflection this could be a good thing, (I’m English and not a footy fan)
We were allowed a team in the London games as it was our home games. They were rubbish though, I watched the game at the Milenium Stadium on Super Saturday against North Korea in 2012. We lost and I had updates from my wife the while time about the amazing action in the athletics…

Watching the swimming 4×100 men’s last night, I was struck by how much quicker the US changeovers were compared to ours. Now either we are rubbish, or they were very marginal. Does anybody get pulled for dodgy changeovers?

@dan yes people do get pulled up for rule infractions from time to time, there are quite a lot of rules like not getting out of the water till instructed etc. However I think its very rare for top teams, one games (Phelps I think) did too many kicks underwater on a turn, got reported but judges said as lane jidge hadn’t filled out the form in English it wasn’t valid. Blatant “cheat” although althelete won by miles.

I just happened to catch that floor routine quite by chance flicking through on red button and was really impressed by it (knowing absolutely nothing about gymnastics, what’s good/not good etc). Was a good bit of TV though!

Mostly just waiting for Mark Cavendish and Laura Trott in the Omniums now.

Rose. Congrats obviously and great for the stats.

First ever Gold in the gymnastics, in many ways thats hard to believe, not to have ever won one. Anyway, super Saturday has shifted one day by the looks of it.

I missed whatever happened there, but he seems to be (understandably IMHO) utterly disappointed with that silver.

Louis Smith, gracious in coming second?

He’s gutted, and his ADHD condition makes it very difficult for him to cover up his disappointment. Don’t be a tool yourself.

Now’s he’s had a chance to rationalise his feelings I think he’s just come across very well.

Anyway, you can stick your Super Saturday, Super Sunday – 3 golds so far (I’ll reluctantly include golf), one more guaranteed a decent chance of another in the Tennis, and Giles Scott is just about to guarantee his gold in the Finn (though he won’t “win” that today, has to wait for the medal race on Tuesday).

Is there anything we aren’t entered in, because we should get a team together quick. We’re brilliant at everything today!!!!

    wrightyson

Yes im a tool but I would have thoroughly cheered on my fellow competitor/team mate/ buddy in coming first. Maybe that’s just me…

Dempsey gets Silver, Scott gets a Gold (without doing the medal race)

Bit mixed for the rest of the fleets, but Women’s 470’s are up there and cracking on with it.

    Plenty of racing left though.

I’m sure he is delighted. It’s not a choice to suffer from the mental conditions he does that make him react like he does.

Louis had gone Bronze then Sliver so its obvious he’s dissapointed not to win this one. As he said atter the dissapointment of the team event where he felt responsible for the team missing out. These are highly charged moments when that mike is thrust in your face

Do we think Team GB has deliberately targeted technical sports that cannot simply be won by being juiced up?

    jambalaya

Nice interview by Shirley with Scott, as she said a quite moment before the mayhem ashore.

@wilbert I think the lottery funding dies look at events where money can really help, so the techincal events or ones with fairly high budgets with trainers, facilities etc

    aracer

We’ve won plenty of medals in sports where being juiced up helps. Not that I’m implying anything…

I think the standard line is that we’re good in sitting down sports – or maybe more accurately we do well in sports which have rather less global spread. In reality we seem to do a decent job of targeting most sports, it’s just the rest of the world does a better job at some of them. Plenty of funding for athletics for example (or even swimming, where despite our best haul ever we don’t really punch that hard), but the global level is higher.

Scott was classy as were Skinner and Kenny. Amazing comparison with wendyballers!
