So, 2 hr mtb ride on 800Kcal was fine. Happy days!!

Jamie – my plan is to shift the weight fast over the 8 weeks, moving my body away from carb dependency, then shift to a long term low carb, eating strategy.

As for sustainable – is any diet strategy? Putting weight back on isn’t the fault of the diet, surely it’s going back to what you did b4?

Depends. Some diets aren’t sustainable long-term (I had a friend who got ready for a motor racing season with a crash diet but was so extreme that his team made him visit the doctors twice a week for health checks) so it’s inevitable to have some weight increase. If the diet is sustainable then you’re right, it’s bad habits creeping back in.

Talking about eating less than 1000 kcal a day, it’s surprising how much you can eat if your goal is 1600 kcal and you eat the right stuff. My typical day –

Wheetabix and semi-milk for breakfast, mid morning goahead bar, one wrap with chicken and lots of salad for dinner, mid afternoon protein bar (on days I’m riding, fruit otherwise), and something like breaded cod, oven chips (125g only though!) and peas for tea.

That’s not a bad days food really and I haven’t been hungry at all.

By the way, 125g of chips is a pathetic amount when you see it on the plate! 😉

I could drop the wrap and mid morning and afternoon snacks to get towards 1000kcal, but I’d likely get hungry and eat something I shouldn’t, plus I think it’s better to keep my blood sugar stable and metabolism up by (healthy) snacking. That’s what I’m going with anyway!

    115.8kg this morning!

I’m down 2.65lbs so far. Hoping to keep this going now.

Started a 30 day Push Up Plan three days ago. Had no idea my upper body weighed so much / my arms were so weak!

    🙁

I’ve got one of these sitting on the tablet, along with a core strength one and a leg one. I’m still summoning up the courage…

I built all the way up to 50 push-ups using my own devised ‘one a day’ program.

On Jan 1st, I did a push up

On Jan 2nd i did two.

    On Jan 3rd i did three….

and so on – until i reached a day when i couldn’t do the designated amount. Then i took one off (so say i failed to do 18, next day I’d aim for 17 – to allow time for a bit of recovery and repair) – and then start adding again. It took 3 months all but, but I got there.

(then I injured a shoulder playing tug of war with a vigorous puppy, and now i don’t think I can do any. Maybe I’ll try the 50 sit up challenge instead this year – starting Feb 1st)

Reminder that first weigh in will be Friday – but I’ll send a reminder on the day. Just that you’ve all got 2 days for crash dieting* to show progress 😉

    *don’t crash diet specially,

**do crash diet if that is your tactic

Same but last nights 10 was starting to feel hard

also up to 10 Sit ups…

    9lbs so far 😯

with a bit of luck and exercise double figures for Friday

    So today

    – 2 poached eggs, smoked salmon, mushrooms for lunch.
    -Aubergine “lasagna” for tea.

Not bad for 800 Kcal. 8lbs down so far.

I find one of the best things one can do when losing weight, is to write a meal plan for the week.

You shop for what you need. No deciding what to eat at mealtimes etc.

    😆 ^^^^^

I’ve been keeping a food diary this week, if I lose weight on Friday I’ll share it. No idea how many calories I’ve been eating in a day, I’ve just been eating less than I usually would.

I had a bit of a shit weekend so I’ve stagnated. Made up for it with a fasted morning, egg lunch with green juice etc. Sufferfest tonight which will also help.

This. A lot less. Still not had a single packet of crisps or anything snacky, of anything pastry related (a genuine first!). Replaced my usual lunchtime doorstop butty with something healthy. Smoked salmon and scrambled eggs today. No bread. Thats healthy right? Mrs Binners went to Fat Club weigh-in yesterday and she’s shifted 5ib so far. Resisting the urge to weigh myself before Friday. If I’ve not lost owt, I’ll be gutted!

I’m also setting myself goals. We’re going to Keswick for the weekend at the end of the month. If I can keep this regime up for the month and shift some timber, then my reward will be a trip to the George for this…

… their legendary cow pie! About a months calories in one beautiful, delicious hit! At which point I’ll probably lapse into a coma. 🙂

Right…. off out for a walk in’th’ills. I was going to go out on the bike, but there are bits of street furniture being blown down the road, so I reckon I’ve more chance of staying upright without the whole wheels business. Low centre of gravity, and all that….

I’ve been eating quavers. Like diet crisps.

    binners
    Full Member

I’ve been weighing up these, as they’re also made of air, right?

I’ve packed in the crisps as a conscious thing, as more than anything I’m trying to get out of grazing all day like a heifer. Its just too easy when you work from home. Theres no shame associated with ramming handfuls of wotsits into your gob while sat in your pants. You should see the looks I get when I do it in peoples offices. Modern society is just SO judgemental!

    Right… to the hills!

    Jamie

When weighing up my choice of diet crisps, I ruled out Skips and Wotsits due to their relatively high sugar content. 1.1g per pack vs Quavers 0.4g.

I picked up some rice cakes as well. Just had one, and they’re now in the bin. Polystyrene.

    Oh crisps I remember those….

It was commented on in the office that they have noticed my snacking is no more as the usual pile of treats and stuff that tend to float around the offices seem to be lasting longer,

Not sure if I should be proud or not

Aldi do chocolate coated ones (and yogurt coated).

It’s like cereal bars, tastes like it should be healthy, but still isn’t good for you.

    Sounds delicious.

It’s better than it sounds. Today’s version had:

    2 apples
    1 cucumber
    Handful of spinach
    lime
    ginger
    mint

Sounds random but it’s good and also a good way of emptying the fridge of veg at times. I won’t say it’s always good to look at tho, the carrot and spinach was brownish which isn’t great in a drink that isn’t chocolate milk.

While I am talking about, well I wasn’t but I am now, substitutions for nice foods.

Waitrose do a lovely yoghurt coleslaw. A fraction more sugar, but a big bowl of salad with quarter of a pot dumped on top makes a quick, low calories lunch. Not too pricey at £1.40.

….yeah, I live round the corner from a Waitrose.

    Regular coleslaw:

Well that was awful. Its so depressing trying to plan some kind of exercise routine when you live in a grim post-industrial northern wasteland…

A stroll into a hurricane up Pilgrims Cross by bin lid[/url], on Flickr

So I must have scrubbed off some serious calories there. I was walking into what appeared to be a hurricane, through ground with the consistency of porridge. So I’ve got back and I’m now absolutely bloody starving. Got out of the shower and I couldn’t resist the temptation to jump on the scales to either encourage me or demoralise me completely…

4lb’s off since last week 🙂 I’m celebrating with a tangerine. I know how to live!

Ron, you’ve just bought a kebab and removed the meat and pitta?

I snack on my kids pom bear crisps. Only 80 cals a pack. Must be healthy.

Scamper if you look closely there is roast pork (cooked in slow cooker on a bed of onion) in there, with a balsamic vinegar chilli dressing thing i made so yes it is kinda like a no pitta kebab thing…

Mrs Binners has been on a health kick big shop. There are now green things in our kitchen that I’ve never seen before and can’t actually identify.

But on a contradictory note, I’ve just discovered that a packet of cheese and onion French Fries that you find down the back of the (usually) interesting bit of the cupboards is only 79 calories, and doesn’t taste any the worse for being 2 months out of date

Forgive me Chub Club for I have sinned….

Those are vegetables. I’ve read about them on the internet. Not for me.

So far, so good this week.
    Porridge for breakfast.
Made lunches for the week on Sunday that is basically tomatoes, turkey mince, leeks and 1 cup of brown rice. That’ll last 5 days.
Dinner is so far zero carb, lean protein, a bit of fat and veg.
1 or 2 apples per day to snack on.
And 30 mins exercise minimum per day.

If that doesn’t work I’m stuffed.

Why zero carb lunch, when you’re surrounding it with carbs?

That’s not an unfair comment actually.

It is forcing me to be a bit more creative with my cooking, different types of veg, different dressings, different ways to prepare the protein part. Oddly quite enjoyable, I tend to eat late, 8pm ish, so I get quite hungry late afternoon but I’m bit of hunger is not a big deal in the grand scheme of things if this works!

Lunch isn’t zero carb, it has some brown rice with it.
Dinner is zero carb and I try to avoid carbs in general after 4pm. No science behind this, just trying it to see if it works.

    No science behind this,

    Agreed 🙂
