didn’t you get the memo? We don’t trust experts any more. This is post truth dieting, just do anything as long as it looks vaguely thought through to 25% of the population.

I shall be having a low carb / high protein tea by the way – I have 2 cod fillets and some cauliflower (floretted, covered in cajun spices and oven baked for 20 mins) – but that’s my dinner on day 2 this week of my 5:2 so i’m done again for the week.

And I shall be having porridge with a dollop of strawberry jam and some blueberries in tomorrow morning – a genuinely red, white and blue breakfast.

    Yes!!!!

It’s also worth bearing in mind that this style of eating is wonderful Sunday to Thursday. Where it trips up this week is Friday (lunch meeting in London, booze will be involved) and Saturday (catching up with friends, we’re meeting in the pub at 5pm…). Basically I’m hoping to smash it in the week and not mess it up too much over the weekend.

So had a little pre weigh in, weigh in this morning. Not wishing to tempt fate, but cos I was curious…

13st on the button, down from 13:5!

Will see how I go on Friday morning but fingers crossed moving in the right directions.

So far have cut down refined carbs, cut down on sugar intake, increased vegetable intake and that’s about it. Oh and drinking less… Except for Sunday which was the GF’s birthday, but that was mostly Gin, which is like water right? 😉

Not being constantly bloated by bread/pasta/potatoes is starting to feel good too, even as nice as they taste. Been reunited with an old friend too, not seen him in a while!

I don’t think I have ever felt bloated off a potato.

    A potato (singular)… Maybe not…

The quantity I normally eat potatoes in… It’s quite easy I can assure you!

Welcome to food comparisons. An occasional series of posts where I compare foods.

    This week:

Ham, cheese and yoghurt coleslaw salad I just made, which took me about 30 mins to trough through.

    450 calories.

5 chocolate hobnobs. Which I would have absent mindedly snaffled while watching telly in about 2 minutes.

    450 calories.

Tune in next week, or they’ll kill me!

    Hi Jon
For tomorrow’s weigh in do you want us to put the relevant details in the email title to save you having to open all emails?

We could all follow the same format to make it easier such as:

STW Chub Club 13/01/17 username xxx

Where xxx is the weight in lbs?

That’s a smart idea – even just stw name and lbs is enough

Jon, did I get ‘registered’? I don’t know if we were supposed to receive anything from you by email, but I didn’t.

Quick spin on the rollers this morning, only fell off once. Luckily the bike didn’t jerk backwards into an old table that’s in the garage, which didn’t bash into another old table that’s in the garage, which didn’t bash into the garage door, which didn’t make massive bang, so the wife didn’t have to stick her head out of the back door to check everything was all right.

    Saxon rider,

just checked the googledoc and you are on there

    @saxon

yes you were registered and you were on the email sent out on 4th jan. Check your spam folder, a few seem to have found it in there. it was a gmail address related to this site.

I see you have also emailed me your result. You do realise it’s Thursday and weigh in’s are on Friday (maybe not if the email didn’t get through)?

And good try on the email but you just sent me “STW xxxlbs” when what I’d like is your STW name and weight (in lbs)

    eg: Saxonrider xxxlbs

I know you’re from STW, I’m not running chub club for anyone else. And I’m beginning to wonder why I’m trying to run this one too 😉

    Message received! 😳

Anyway, no, I definitely didn’t get the initial inbox. Having just now checked my spam folder, there is nothing from you. I did, however, get your reply to my eager, if miscast, weigh-in email!

will check the original email but shouldn’t be an error, as they were all c&p’ed in

    For avoidance of doubt

weigh in’s (in lbs) on every other friday, starting tomorrow – exception is end Mar (because there are 13 weeks in a quarter and we want a 3mo check) when there will be an extra weigh in. I will post a reminder on here and by email although not sure all emails are getting through.

If you can email me with a subject line of <YOUR STW NAME> xxxlbs – eg: theotherjonv 200lbs then i don’t have to ‘read’ 70 emails.

Feel free to post up on here as well with thoughts on how it’s going, what’s working (or not), etc. It’s here the magic and motivation happens, I’m just keeping score.

If i don’t get an email from you I’ll just roll over your old weight. No expulsions for not sending data in, but obvs if you want to be removed let me know.

Updates won’t be instantaneous on the s/sheet, but I’ll aim to have them totaled and done by sunday eve.

    OK?

Ok. My money is on 27% of the entrants sending their weights in in kg.

Also, I think we’ll see a 14% drop out rate.

EDIT: Sorry, that was in response to theotherjonv’s post, just above Jamie’s. Now it just looks stupid.

Jon, you may not get my weight Saturday morning as I don’t think I’ll be home until late Friday and will likely be unable to stand on scales if my bosses plans for boozing tomorrow come to fruition… For that I apologise, the mail will be with you by 10am Saturday morning.

    theotherjonv

that’s fine, as i said another reason for having Friday as a weigh in is so that I have the weekend to do updates.

Right then, just decided to have a crack at the local Parkrun on Saturday morning. I like a bit of competition and this seems like it might get the competitive juices flowing. 6 miles on the bike to get there as a warm up, 5km run, cycle home all with a raging hangover. That’s a good idea, right?

    theotherjonv

    yep.

Weigh yourself after you vomit but before you drink water to take the taste away, for maximum loss.

Is it too early to start getting excuses in for why you weight hasn’t gone down or has actually increased?

    I’ve eaten too many bananas.

I think my scales might be broken*

I’ve lost fat but gained muscle mass.

I’m a fat, lazy git with a sugar addiction and poor impulse control.**

*This is actually true – stood on them and they went Boing and stopped working….but I bought a new fancy dan, body fat, bone density measuring set during the week to replace them.

** This is also true. Don’t judge me.

Not a bad idea that. I’m debating doing it powered merely by a double espresso. This means I might be able to add a bonk to the hangover for maximum discomfort. I’m excited!

A good strong espresso may also trigger the old bowels for added weight loss weigh-in win.

Aaah, that Kieran. Long time no see/ride.

Give me a shout if you fancy bringing the STW Cotswold Massiv (oh, the irony) back to life chap.

Hi Si, yep, no where near enough riding which has meant I’m now doing this. The STW Cotswold Massiv would be a good target as well maybe for the summer? I doubt I could get my fat arse up the hill at the moment 😳 and I think we might have put a few people off after the “Field of Doom” incident!

On the positive side a mix of no snacks, no beer, calorie controlled meals, a few sessions in the gym, starting swimming and competing with the missus on “steps” every day has already led to a 5lb loss in the first week and a tighter notch on the old belt 😀 Most importantly I’m actually enjoying it!

Actually looking forward with interest to my weigh in tomorrow

Went for my first post illness ride today, back from the garage after dropping my car off. 16 miles on my CX bike with no breakfast, whilst yesterday had the usual calorie deficit – in other words, I was running on empty.

It was neither fast, fun or pretty. Note to self – do not ride on an empty stomach!

Ooooh! OOOH! An idea for Dragon’s Den…..the Fatbit.

Tracks the movement of your hand towards your mouth, sends you alerts when Greggs opens and buzzes if you don’t consume 250 calories per hour.

The slow horrible ugliness was probably more to do with the post-illness bit. Riding 16 miles on an empty stomach is fine, I used to about 20 miles to work with just a cup of coffee beforehand, it’s just a fasted ride (although you do have to get used to it a bit).

In fact, there’s a fair bit of opinion that it’s better than fine, it’s actively fat-burningly muscle-buildingly good, and it’s a significant portion of my Chub Club plan. It’s the only significant portion of anything I’ll be getting though 🙁

The office anorexic has recommended sugar free jelly as a filling alternative to actual food. As it’s pretty much just suspended water you probly burn more calories looking at than it gives you.

No idea about the effect of artificial sweeteners, though.

I remember once eating too many sugar free sweets.

All that sorbitol completely wrecked my toilet.

Tails, mail I think, STW user name and your weight in lbs in the mail title.

Anyway, I’ve gone early as tomorrow I won’t be at home to do the weigh in.
    197.5lbs so 7.5lbs lost.
This means either my scales are faulty (not unlikely), the original weight was wrong (also not at unlikely), or I’ve lost 1/2 a stone in 2 weeks (feels less likely).

If true I’m chuffed and a little concerned at the same time. Let’s see what it looks like in another 2 weeks.

I’m still in work and the only thing stopping me from raiding my emergency chocolate bar / crisp pile, is knowing I have weigh in tomorrow morning.

    Well done chub club!

I think my body is so confused by the sudden lack of sugar, it’s refusing to lose any weight.
