Anyone else had problems with theirs?

Having waited 2 months for my Evo on crest 29ers, 1 ride in and the rear developed play. Took back to the LBS I bought it from where I’m told they replaced the bearings. AFAIK all the parts are present. (I can do the job myself)

1 ride later and there is just as much play 😯
I don’t want to give the wheel back as I am then bikeless but just want it sorted. Also set up with Stans so faffy to strip down. I have suggested they just order me a new one – I can return it under ‘not fit for purpose’ – can’t I? Tempted to do this and buy a new one online.

So, anyone else had problems with play in the hub?

Mine was replaced due to bad tolerances in bearing seats, wheel wasnt spinning. One before that cracked and was replaced. And they are too noisy.

Having had a new set of bearings, I am wondering if I have the some problem as you scruff 😥

They seem to have new end caps too – more sealing on the non-drive side and less on the drive side 😐

I’ve got some evo sp hubs on crest 29 from hope and they have been fine must be best part of 1000 miles by now.
But hopes customer back up is the best so if you get problems just return it.

Also I’d leave the tyre on and let the shop deal with it

As a 2x Evo Hope Hoops user I was surprised by this BR review that rates them pretty poorly. But not downrated in the area I expected. They rate them as reliable – but both mine are piss poor for weatherproofness (sic) esp with 20mm front and eat bearings in weeks but BR downgrade them for something I thought was spot on:

I had this with a Hope Bulb from way back, ate bearings every few weeks and the rear hub developed a lot of play. The final straw came when the axle broke apart and killed the ratchet, so Hope sent me a ProII Evo at minimal cost and it’s been absolutely fine since.

This isn’t the first report of excessive play I’ve heard about Hope hubs, but it’s not massively common – sending them back to Hope should resolve it.

I’ve three sets of Hope hubs in all and aside from the wonky Bulb they’ve all been fine. To put that into perspective, I’ve a Ringle Jumping Flea hub that killed it’s bearings after about six rides and a Formula hub died on me after six short months.
