I’m going looking for one tomorrow, just down the road.

    Linky.[/url]

Had the ‘Dark Peak Aircraft Wrecks’ books as a kid and spent countless hours searching Derbyshire for bits of Ansons and Liberators.

Very humbling, especially as I get older.

Not thought about such things for years, but might just be a project for some local rides and walks later this year.

Random Google find, but thought it might be of interest to those of a certain age so I thought I’d stick it on here.

    He does.

Some cracking plane crashes to be seen in the Peak as well as further afield.

Some of the ones in Northern Scotland are very well preserved although those in the Peak can be spectacular.

Few pics here if they work.

I can’t see the pics at work, but I can recommend the Fairy Lochs Liberator near Gairloch. Very well preserved and unspoilt wreckage.

Despite my pacifist persuasions I too have a liking of Second World War aircraft. Like you Rorshach, I love twin-engined aircraft the A26, F7F, Mosquito and also the Northrop P61 Black Widow, Douglas A20, Wellington and Beaufighter.

All deadly but I try and forget that a bit…

Not after he’d stuffed it into the ground.

    Just got back.

The plane crashed about a quarter of a mile away from the route our regular night time ride/walk, the farm at the top left of Foxstones Lane, if anyone knows the area.
I know it sounds daft, but I’ll think of Second Lieutenant Lyle L Williams every time I pass from now on.

Harry, not been up to the Rivi memorial for yonks, will have to pay a visit.

dangerousbeans, the Superfortress on Bleaklow was the first crash site I ever visited, a walk with the Cubs in the late 70’s/early 80’s before the memorial was put up.
I find it hard to believe that people steal wreckage from these sites, but apparently they do.

Anyway, first time out of the house since before Christmas, enjoyed having a look round and getting out.

    Thanks for the replies folks.
