OKO Off Road Tyre Sealant

So the combination of the Kenda Juggernaut Pro tyres and Decathlon sealant didn’t work out for me and I have a pair of Jumbo Jim tyres winging their way from Germany. I’d like to use a non-ammonia based sealant, preferably something that’s not supposed to dry out, but haven’t a clue and am now poor due to the new tyres.

I read a thread about the OKO Off Road Tyre Sealant (needing diluted 2:1 with water), but it was really old. So I was just wondering if that’s still a viable option, or should I be looking at Caffe Latex, Oeange Seal, Finish Line or something else…?

Also, how much sealant do you put in a 4.8″ tyre…?

I use oko, it does dry out. However I add water every few months and it seems fine. Biggest advantage for me aside cost is it doesn’t make my skin itch.

If I didn’t know better (I don’t) I’d say it looks like shredded newspaper suspended in water, maybe with something to thicken the mix

I did the watering-down but taking off a tyre recently saw aggregations of (not totally dry) the fibrous part with a little clear liquid left over – I wondered if it wasn’t viscous enough after dilution.  I’ve been wondering about adding something in, glycerol maybe (first thought was glycol but I suspect that’d screw up the rubber; not sure about glycerol)

From personal experience don’t mix the oko stuff with stans or orange seal because you’ve a little of those left but not enough.

It monstered up in about a week and left the tyre full of clear fluid (probably the unicorn tears used in production of the stans and orange which makes them so expensive.)

(Otoh actually it did a great job of cleaning residue off the rim and tyre so maybe it’s a good tip if you’re bothered about that sort of thing)

My experience is the same as the others above with OKO. It’s pretty good, and much much cheaper. Only issue I’ve found is trying to seal a non-tubless tyre. If the sidewalls are porous then it won’t seal them like a latex solution will.

OKO user here, not had an issue in 18 months or so.

OKO user here too – I dilute it 2:1 with flooring latex and a dash of screenwash. Has worked fine for 2 years, only needing occasional topups.

I just diluted it with water, been fine in my fat tyres for over a year now, not checked it but not had any punctures either (was getting them once a week minimum with tubes).

I think I used 2x stan scoops in a 4.0 tyres, reasoning being that it’s twice as wide as a normal tyres, and centripetal force draws it all to the tread area. Some people were putting 4x or more scoops in based on tyre volume, which seems ridiculous (like I said, never punctured with it touch wood, so seems like there’s enough).

OKO 2:1 with water here too and it works ok, it doesn’t seal as quickly after seating the tyres as Stans, it usually takes a few rides and a few re-inflates but it can be revived if it dries out just by adding water, which is nice. Plus it’s dead easy to whack into a Schrader (cos I’m not a **** roadie) valve from the bottle.

I’ve used it for my first attempt at tubeless. I used it 2:1 with water on 3″ AND 2.8″ tyres and so far no problems. Having said that I’ve not checked on it and I can go months without a puncture with tubes maybe only getting one or two a year. It does appear though to have sealed any porosity in the sidewalls.

Timely thread as I just sorted out my tyre and added more of this after a puncture the other night. It did seal that albeit slowly enough to have too little pressure left to enjoy the last downhill towards the pub. That may have been my fault as I think the mix was nearer 1:1.

It’s easy to use and if it fixes punctures then at the price I’ll be happy as the other stuff is taking the micky for price when I have 4 bikes running tubeless across the family.

Yeh, though handily it’s largely pre-formulated

A 4.0×26 tyre is roughly four times the volume of the 26×2.1 the single scoop/60ml serving is geared for.  I tend to use 90-120ml in a high volume 27.5 or 29 tyre. Maybe more.  Best gauge is listening for sloshing while shaking or spinning once fully sealed.  If it’s not sloshing, you may be sealed but you’re unlikely to survive a puncture.

Around 4 scoops is normal for a fat bike.

@vincienup I could never hear any sloshing with the Decathlon stuff, even with 4 caps (160ml) in a 4″ tyre. The front sealed 95% of the time, the rear was the opposite, but mainly cuts to the sidewall.

Latex solution seals small holes as the latex colagulates as it’s forced to accelerate through the hole. A lot of sealants tend to use latex mixed with some sort of particles/fibre to help it seal holes.

Screenwash concentrate is just anti-freeze and a bit of surfactant, you could use industrial methanol, PEG, etc, screenwash is just handy.

Personally I’m not convinced it’s needed, if it’s fine for use in a tractor it’s probably fine in cold weather, and TBH I only diluted it because its quite thick and gloopy compared to stans, it’s cheap enough that I’d probably just use it neat next time.

Sorry to revive this thread. I bought some oko offroad/agri stuff today. Was pretty cheap for the quantity.

Was just wondering what quantities you guys were running on what size tyres?

Are the reviews still fairly positive mixing 2 parts sealant to 1 water?

Seemed to last a year or so when diluted before it got its first puncture (a massive thorn) and it was still liquid in the tyre, although less than it started with.<span style=”font-size: 0.8rem;”> This time I just bunged it in ‘neat’, not like it costs much.</span>
