I don’t know if a forum format would work on a phone app? I can see how specific bits of it might, like a magazine browser, or classifieds perhaps. Personally though, the last thing I want is yet another app on my phone. I use them when I absolutely have to, but find many are glitchy, clunky to use and gimmicky. If there were plans to develop one it might be worth polling to see how many would use it first before forking out any cash to do it. I wouldn’t use it, but maybe I’m in a small minority?

Mumsnet have an app and it seems to get excellent reviews.

Not sure what apps you are using but I find apps better than browser for pretty much every single phone interaction. I’d certainly pay a one off fee to register on a STW app and I’d be much more likely to keep my subscription running if it came with a functioning app.

Cleared cache/cookies and logged out, restarted iMac and it now says my password is incorrect and can’t get logged in on iMac/safari

Half the time, apps for websites are little more than a wrapper around a browser engine anyway.

Is your forum history coming back, or is it because I am just an unpaid member?

Forum is really, really slow to load. Might be to to with the 730MB (!!!!) of storage it’s using

The “Top Forum Posts OTW” on the right of the pagetrigger a security warning for me, because of a modified url (they have “-go-vip-net” appended to singletrackworld.com), seems dodgy

Are there any plans to address the accessibility issues? I know it’s not a popular topic, but it’s one close to my heart and the text contrast has been terrible for months and I’ve never seen it mentioned. Thanks.

Flipping hell, what’s happenned? So, so fast here on my laptop, sub 2 seconds to load, it’s like nothing I’ve ever seen before. On my Android phone it usually takes in excess of 10 seconds to log in, now it’s less than 2 secs. Totes amazeballs. Even choosing to log into a big thread it’s less than three secs on the phone. Long may it last =  Happy Ambrose

    EDIT

It took 10? secs to submit the post and a similar length of time to retrieve it for editing. Maybe I need to calm down after my earlier excitement. On my laptop.

Super-slow to load anything on this site – approx 10-15s per page.

Chrome is saying that this page is taking 820MB. I’ve been noticing (and ignoring) it for the last few days – but it’s almost unusable.

I was logged out all weekend due myself clearing cache/cookies then encountering the “password wrong” issue and the forum was quick to load, but I’m now logged back in and the forum is as slow as it ever was?

Slow to load any forum page over the last 4 days – I haven’t timed it accurately, but counting 1 thousand, two thousand etc gets me to 7 or more seconds most times – Mumsnet on the other hand is instant 😉

Repeated ‘incorrect password’ warnings yesterday afternoon on iPad and HP Laptop.

Changed password and still got the incorrect password message.

Sorted itself out in the evening and ok this morning.

Horrendously slow to load pages as well.

EDIT: took 20s to post this message then 12s to retrieve it for this edit.

It’s so slow at the moment as to be unusable. I usually have to switch to another tab and work on something else while it loads in the background (30s or more). Also a Mac user on Safari.

For what it’s worth, if I’m not logged in, it’s actually quite nippy.

Forum history has disappeared off my profile. Possibly a purposeful troubleshooting action?

So very slow.  Got to be losing users at this point.

I’ve mentioned this before . It’d impossible to browse STW and listen to any streaming, radio etc . The default is that STW takes over audio

it’s annoying as f and stops me wanting to come here

Quicker now – about 2-3s for page load.

Getting ads as a logged in user again. Chrome on android

I’ve just noticed, the fixed width of the desktop site is too wide for my primary monitor. The right hand edge is off the screen and there’s no (non-hacky) way of scrolling horizontally so (for example) I can see the Classified ads but the prices are mostly off the screen.

I appreciate I might be an edge case here but for boring reasons I’m using a 4:3 monitor at 1280×1024. My second screen is 1920×1080 and it fits fine on there.

The trigger to switch to the mobile site looks to be set to the edge of the main frame and isn’t taking account of the right-hand column. The point it switches looks to be set to 1000px, at that window size the right-hand column is missing completely. Not that I think forcing the mobile site sooner is the ‘fix,’ I’d rather just lose some of the bar, rather that (I think) the calculation isn’t taking the bar into account when reflowing the page.

Actually, that’s the fix I think. The mobile site reflows as you resize the browser. The desktop site doesn’t, is fixed-width regardless of screen size (presumably so that it doesn’t look ridiculous on huge monitors). There’s a ‘no man’s land’ between 1000px and, what, 1300px? where it doesn’t render properly.

I know I’ve not been updating here as much as you’d like but there’s a few reasons. One is that we are currently looking at the viability of a completely new forum system thanks to some opportunities we now have with WP VIP – although it’s not without it’s challenges but we are at the testing stage on our development server. I don’t want to over promise but we’ve had some good results of our experiments to import the existing forum archive into it. There are still a lot of questions we need answers for and it will be weeks not days before we have something to show if the answers we get are good. But I wanted to pop by and give a quick update on what we are doing. For those interested we are currently looking at WPForo as it does seem to answer the majority of our requirements to integrate with the rest of the site, subscription sytems, paywalls, ads etc.

But like I say. It’s currently early days and we are still testing.

The ‘Back to Ads’ link on the Classifieds page doesn’t work. It just generates an “Oops!” message.

Give WPForo a big security audit before you commit. They had a very serious CVE recently

I can’t update my profile, website is required field but nothing can be added there. And I don’t have any websites, I would have to enter singletrackworld.com there.

Back to not being able to post a new thread from Chrome on Windows again.

This has happened before. I managed to do it in Edge on the same Windows PC.

Entered the raffle paid the 4 for 3, paid paypal

However. On the delivery address, its got my username in place of my Christian name, so it’s dyna-ti ******* and not Andrew *******. Is this a glitch ?

It would have taken my details from paypal, which has my full proper name, so why has it replaced my Christian name with my STW username ?

I’m sure the postie just uses the address, but in case this is a glitch, Thought I’d make you aware.

Message function on Classifieds (still?) not working properly?

Just tried to message a man about some Bike Parts … It brings up previous messages that he and I have exchanged in the past, but there is no opportunity – either on Android phone or Windows laptop – to write a new message …

Awfully slow and each time I open a tab to have a look on here I’m told Singletrack isn’t secure, chrome/win10.

Bloody SAP advert comes on with volume even though my volume is off !!!  Just woken my wife up !!!

Other ads volume for a fraction of a second before they go silent

Certain threads , without me touching anything the whole page refreshes 2 or 3 times etc in a instant

As per old nick above, just dog-slow to open any threads, seems to hang for ages and then just kick in (22 seconds to go from a thread back to the homepage). It’s getting a bit tedious now.
