Watched The Dig thought it was OK, pretty lumpen characters, but it filled Sunday afternoon reasonably well.

Another vote for The Dig.
tbh my wife had it set up ready when I started watching it so I didn’t realise it was based on a true story until the end.

Operation Odessa, crime documentary on Netflix is a good watch, a true story that would seem too far fetched if it was a movie.

Late to this but just finished series 1 of The Boys on Prime. Really enjoyed it. Great direction and performances.

I watched ‘the Dig’ whilst reading Wikipedia about the Sutton Hoo finds. Gave the film a bit more detail than what it did on screen for the time it wasted on the fictional parts 🤔.

I watched ‘In the shadow of the moon’ which I found to be very engaging. Good story, nice direction and actors that I didn’t know about (other than Michael C Hall).

Another vote for Call My Agent – French comedy about a movie agency. I know it sounds un-promising but it’s funny and a welcome change from watching the news.

Lupin- french 5 or 6 part drama with Omar Sy, a good watch.

A few things we’ve watched recently (most mentioned above): Lupin, excellent and very watchable, albeit with an odd ending. Call My Agent, also French, a bit more effort required to keep up with what’s what, but very funny. And Palm Springs on Amazon Prime – basically a film with the premise of “yeah, but what if someone *else* got caught in Groundhog Day too?”.

If you like Jewish New Yorker humour then you might like this. Even if you don’t it’s an interesting look into New York and how it’s changed.

A couple of foodie ones for a relaxing weekend viewing.

Chef’s table – BBQ series is my favourite so far, who doesn’t like cooking with fire. 85 year old Tootsie in episode 1 is an absolute star.

Also, watched Fat, Salt, Acid, Heat back to back last weekend. Heat was a disappointment but the other 3 very good.

+1 Lupin. Enjoyed that.

Just started watching The Dig. Getting the distinct impression it was filmed using GoPro cameras, or at least lenses that mimic that very distinctive look. Possibly the most interesting thing about it so far.

Now on “Money Heist” which started well but seems to be the same episode over and over now…

I enjoyed Money Heist, although I only started watching it as I thought someone said it was a 4 parter (so I assumed mini-series), I was hooked before I realised it would take a chunk of my life to watch it :p It does get a bit repetitive at times and a few bits are just totally unrealistic but still well crafted overall

Anyone watching Resident Alien on Sky? Only 2 episodes are out but I think it’s great so far as a dark comedy

Watched a film last night, from 2018, but passed me by – Calibre.

Gawd it was tense. Definitely worth a watch. And I ain’t going back to Scotland any time soon. 😀

I had started watching that new Zendaya thing “Malcolm and Brenda” whatever its called. What a self indulgent pile of overacted shite. When Washington start overacting “eating” and the sound of his slapping chops filled my front room, I turned it off. Glad I did after watching Calibre.

Doesn’t everyhting on Netflix descend in to convolution after the 2nd episode of the 2nd series?

I’ve been finding that the firsts eries tends to be quite good, and then they mostly disappear into obscurity in the 2nd season, is that to string them out for 5 seasons?

I much prefer the ‘min-series’ that are about 6 or 10 episodes long – long enough to do a decent story but not too long for you to lose interest / track of what’s going on. I found the Queen’s Gambit refreshing for this reason.

Currently watching season 2 of Snowpiercer and just seen Ep3 last night, I’d say it’s getting better, really frustrating they are dropping one episode a week too, it’s like the old days of TV.  Sean Bean is really good in it too.

Probably already mentioned but if you enjoyed Money Heist then White Lines was produced by the same guy and is very enjoyable.

I even thought Hugh Grant was good .

His portrayal of Jeremy Thorpe in ‘A Very English Scandal’ convinced me of his acting outside of comedy. IMO brilliant.

The Devil all the Time is a grim descent into American backwoods. Recommended but not an easy watch.

Yup, OTT religious rednecks ahoy, a good reminder (still) never to stray off grid in parts of America.
Some very convincing moments from the main cast, not sure that the narrator was needed so much, but I suppose it makes it easier for the hard of understanding crowd.

Fast forwarded through Greenland,it wasn’t full Gerard Butler ,just a bit…Meh

I approached Greenland with the trepidation with which any Gerard Butler disaster movie should be. However, as a popcorn disaster movie, I found it rollicked along quite nicely. Kept me watching till the end anyway. No classic for sure and look, it’s a “comet hitting the earth” movie so there will be plot leaps to make, but it was decent enough.

If anyone fancies a bit of Irish noir, Calm With Horses* is a good, darkly violent example of the genre. Set in nowhere in particular rural Ireland, the main character had me convinced.

* I think I may have recommended this one previously.

Slightly hesitant to recommend, but for any Depardieu fans, Marseille, a political drama set in the titled city, is quite good. I’m currently being forgiving of some of the streaming sites’ French stuff as I’m using them to practise listening to the language as spoken colloquially. The plot and political machinations are decent enough. The writing sometimes lets it down, as do some of the very average performances of a few main characters. Love a bit of Gerard though. 😀

Not only have I seen it, but a couple of years ago, I went to see a screening of it with Asian Dub Foundation playing the score live in front of the screen. It’s a **** amazing film but watching it like that was special.

We’ve reached a new lockdown low. We’re binge-watching ‘Married at First Sight – Australia’ on All 4.

It takes car crash television to a frankly staggering new level. It’s weirdly compelling. 😳
