I’m looking to get an msr pocket rocket. What other gas canisters will fit it (msr ones not always available)? And where is the best place to buy them? Thanks

Every camping shop I’ve been in sells a version that fits. Never had a problem getting hold of gas

I’ve had one for years, any camping gas cylinder with a screw thread seems to fit. Never bought MSR gas.

Not to be confused with Camping Gaz!!

FWIW – there are cheap versions of pocket rocket that are easily as good, lighter and cheaper.
Ti Edelrid here – does pocket rocket fit under gas cannister? I cant remember if it does, but a neat trick for the Edelrid and others.

wot onions said – Camping Gaz will not fit. All other UK supplied threaded will fit (Primus, Coleman etc) Pocket Rocket is a great bit of kit.

We took our pocket rocket on our Euro tour for three months and then found you cant get threaded canisters over there. So posted ours back home and bought a small Camping Gaz burner instead to use on Camping Gaz cans which you can get in nearly every supermarket in France.

For this time of year make sure you get a Butane/Propane mix

That type of cylinder is standard and has been for many years. They are widespread in the UK at least.

If you’re in South America try and make sure it’s not been refilled with water!

A common trick as described in “Touching the Void”.

I’ve got a pocket rocket and agree it’s great – I use it with a Ti mug and spork from Alpkit. I’m not convinced if I prefer it or my Jetboil though – but both are great and I’ve used them with various gas canisters with no problem.

MSR do another one which will fit the newer blu gaz ones as well. Not quite as light

I like my pocket rocket but it is quite delicate

I know its a little off topic, but I’d consider something with a wider burner. The pocket rocket is goid, but does provide a very intense focussed spot of heat. Very good a burning.

    Just sonething to consider.

in france this year i couldnt find the coleman or primus canisters anywhere we stoped, even though apparently you can..it was all camping gaz stuff which dont fit, you might be able to get an adapter though, but supposed to be a bit dodgy.

I used to have an adapter. It was actually a plastic case that the Camping Gaz canister fitted into, then a normal screw-thread fitting on top.

In fact, a quick google search throws up this…
