We had a pervy woodwork teacher. He was well-known for asking the bustiest girls to cut a piece of hickory with a blunt saw whilst he stood opposite furiously peeling an orange. Sinister.

I’m sure it’s already been done, but anyway…

To clarify – I do not like that we are one of the most surveiled societies in the world.

The Police’s casual observation that they dont have the same sort of CCTV / ANPR networks in Europe was a stark reminder of what sort of society we live in.

I’d also imagine (rightly or wrongly) that the infamous gallic shrug might be invoked regarding this whole sorry story – not just in France, but likely in Italy, Spain, and a number of other European countries as well…?

All the cameras in the world don’t matter one bit now that everyone’s realised that nobody is actually watching them. And if they were, you just shove you’re hood up and the whole thing falls down. That’s if the footage would ever have been good enough for an ID in the first pace. Which would be a miracle in itself, and probably a first

Whilst France does have a large Muslim population, unlike Britain France hasn’t attacked any Muslim country since “Algeria”. Whereas we have been in soooo many foreign countries over the past 20yrs fighting terrorism that we need CCTV….

    Then there was the IRA.

So sadly yes. We do need CCTV/monitoring. Theres a price to intervention.

And France banned them from wearing their Kiss Me Quick hats in public too. They really like those hats

In those conflicts it has been the UK/US first/prominent.

Balkans were peace keeping. The France came under NATO/UN as did many many countries. Same with Libya- it was logistics mainly but one French warship shot down(?) a Libyan fighter (I think).

France is in Afghanistan – The Foreign Legion mainly.

Re. gallic shrugs – the story has actually made the news in France, even noticed it in the notoriously parochial Dauphiné Liberé the other day…

Mr Lloyd, Lib Dem MP for Eastbourne and Willingdon, defended the school.

He said: “I know Bishop Bell well and I’m confident that their procedures have been exemplary.”
well if the lib dems say so, it must be..

Ms Duckworth’s concerns followed a separate incident in 2009, in which a teacher at Bishop Bell was jailed for starting a sexual relationship with two teenage pupils.

PE teacher Robert Healy was jailed for seven years after grooming them on social networking site Bebo.

In a separate incident a retired Church of England priest suspended from the church following a Criminal Records Bureau check was allowed to remain as a governor, despite the school being aware of child sex allegations against him.

Canon Gordon Rideout, 73, has been charged with committing 38 offences over an 11-year period between 1962 and 1973. He is due to stand trial at Lewes Crown Court on 19 October.

A point that the earlier posters seem to have missed is that the rules pertaining to teacher/student relationships are there for the mutual benefit of all parties. For example, the doctor and patient relationship is sacred in a similar way, it doesn’t matter if one or both parties is over the age of sixteen or not.

No-one is going to come out of this well, not the girl, the teacher or their respective next of kin who’ll invariably have an incredibly difficult time dealing with this.

PJM1974 makes a very valid point there.

Tbh, the repercussions from the teacher’s actions will be felt most from those around him. Jesus, imagine being in his wife’s position, or the parents of the girl? No doubt, all the stepdad wants to do is kick the bejeesus out of Jeremy whathisname…and who could blame him for feeling that way. Instead they just have to sit powerless and hope for the best.

A little bit of sensitivity for all concerned is well in order.

Internet backslapping of a thirty-something who’s possibly committed statutory rape isn’t.

Can you imagine the shit he’s going to get from his mates in the pub, when he gets back?

It’s the shit in the showers he’s probably more concerned about

    Not unless she’s under 13.
