I’ve started this diet new way of eating, on Monday 84kg start weight.

Like others I’m finding breakfast the hardest meal to replace, I’ve been adicted to porridge so looking for alternatives I found this recipe for a Quinoa breakfast and from that the reference to Stevia, anyone used it? Looks ideal if you’ve got a sweet tooth (which I haven’t) and are looking for alternative sweeteners.

However I then found this article on Stevia and Insulin on the Livestrong site[/url] so it may increase Insulin production which is ummmm bad right? Also this which I don’t really get and can’t be bothered to work out, other than Stevia used as a sweetener have a higher postprandial insulin response.

    Nut milk then eh? Allowed?

I’m really struggling to find a reasonably cheap and plentiful replacement for bulky foods like potato and rice. Any help?

Why do you want cheap and bulky foods? To fill you up? Make sure your meat portions are large enough, and the protein will give you that filled feeling. And loads of veg. Something you have to get used to, as it is a big diet shift. There were lots of root vegetables mentioned earlier which are suitable for a side part of a meal to replace potatoes. I had shephards pie yesterday with butternut squash for the topping. Different texture and taste to potato, but very nice. Oh and put beans into anything you can (chilli, mince, bolognese sauce etc etc) as they help to bulk out a meal, as do lentils. These can stretch out the meat part of a meal without costing much, not impacting the taste/texture, and are quite cheap to put in.

really don’t see why anyone has an issue with breakfast?

just eat whatever food is around. I had lamb chops and poached egg this morning.

it’s just food eaten in the morning, why make it difficult by thinking you need a certain type of food?

Just what I was going to point out, that pulses are quite bulky, imo.

However, I noticed that I just don’t get hungry between meals anymore and if I’m late for one, I can go a fair few hours before my body starts complaining.

I’m going to give the gram flour flat bread thing a go, thanks Motivforz.

TSY. If you’re pushed for time…… then, err, don’t post, may be…
    😉
Had to laugh though at the drive my car to the gym.

    Deadly.
Have you ever taken a joke too far ?…….

    Molgrips.
I’m liking the way you’ve come round to all this. Good stuff and good to see you are getting the results.
Of course, if all this weight lose and training leads to Mrs Grips having ideas, you’ll have to call your next child “iGrips” 😯

parsnip seems like the ideal replacement for spuds – eat it boiled, mashed (yum) or roast.

as for rice, a bit trickier but in curries, i just add a tin of chickpeas to the curry and that bulks it out to the about the same as curry and rice.

sausage-and-bean casserole for brekkie this morning. Delicious, and it makes a change from eggs 🙂 Only problem is that it takes quite a while to chef it up, compared to marmite on toast.
I think I need to get organizized, and prepare it the night before.

Tuna salad for breaky this morning.

Breakfast tomorrow will likely be lentils with Cod and bacon in there.
Similar consistency to porridge I reckon and dead filling too.

Also, all this chat about tea and milk. I did some time in Istanbul, all tea drank there was without milk, served in little figure of 8 glasses. And they loved it.

I’m not a habitual coffee or tea drinker, but while in Istanbul I tried their milkless tea and it was fine.
I think molgrips is right, you’ve just got to find a tea you can drink without milk really.
I stick to water during the day, maybe the vino in the evening.

If it’s a girl, we’re thinking of Quinoa Dave for first names. How does that sound?

    CK, here’s what I do

Chilli – quadruple amounts of beans in it and/or chickpeas (I eat a lot of this)
    Pasta – chickpease
Meat portions – peas, green beans, carrots and veg in general.
Indian – easy one this, just make dahl of some kind or another.

I’m surprised to find that the starch portions in meals I really am not missing. I have to make myself eat rice etc on my day off. For me it’s Coke and cakes that I miss. And lattes to a lesser extent.

    You’re all class.

Make you’re mind up, either you’re sorry, or you are abusive.
Though both are pretty easy from behind your keyboard…

    Thanks.

    Make you’re mind up

You’re struggling to do the same Solo…one minute you’re telling me I’m all class, the next, you’re telling me I’m all mixed up and being abusive from behind a keyboard (my ironometer is buzzing madly).

Who started it chubby? (or are you on the diet as a lifestyle thing rather than reducing the size of your arse).

I’m sorry for entering into dialogue with you in the first place. And I’m sorry for not entertaining you – there are countless threads on the diet where I haven’t contributed at all…busy yourself reading those instead. You’re obviously stuck for something to do.

Or look, tell you what. Start another one…we haven’t had enough of them yet…and I promise not to post on it. Honestly, not a word.

    *is scared*

Bad news by the way, molgrips has called tzatziki into question. Stay away from the dairy aisle for now.

If it weren’t so easy, I’d keep it going, but people need serious dietary advice here, not a fight.

(Are you chubby though? It’s ok, I am too…happy chubby though, not miserable.)
