    Hello

yep, looking for some cheap frame protection… focus sam2 6.8 ..it is for a ebike, so if it is bigger in size would be nice..

    Thanks

You can get small bits of helicopter tape on ebay to do any cable rub points. Old tyre on the downtube for rocks.

I used a roll of 3m 8671. It was nothing like as nice to apply as the stuff Invisiframe use (which I think is XPel)
It seems expensive, but the Invisiframe is so nice to put on and so well thought out that I’d pay that little bit more (only about £40 more than most tapes) and get it.

If you Google ‘gusset tek frame tape’ it’ll throw up a load of options. I think 100mm wise is the widest and it’s usually 1.5m long. £10 ish. I’ve used it on a few bikes and it’s ok – I’m not an expert fitter (nor do I have loads of patience) but done an acceptable job on my mates Santa Cruz. I rushed it on my Bird Aether as I was busting to ride it and it looks a bit clunky. Make sure you round off all the edges as it’s less likely to snag / peel then.

As above, Gusset Tek tape is rebranded 3m tape but cheaper. The biggest size will cover most of a big bike if you’re clever with your cutting.

I have some 3M and a sheet of Xpel (Invisiframe) and the Xpel is so much easier to use and the goes on with far better transparency.

If anyone knows of a film that is like Xpel and not as expensive?

For comparison I spent around £70 the other week on 3m helitape for my new bike. Not a huge amount less than invisiframe.

I’ve got a fair bit left, so it wasn’t a full 70 of tape, but still….

I have invisiframe on my full sus and think they are good value as they keep the bike looking great for a long time. I was in 2 minds to get a kit for my HT but they didn’t have them in stock at the time so I bought some sheets of 3M Ventureshield from Amazon as I read a Dirt article that said that’s what they use. It worked out about £30-35 to cover top tube, seat and chain stays and downtube. It looks really good on the bike, think it might be a touch thicker than Invisiframe but goes on the same way and has a nice glossy finish. My NP Scout has nice round tubes so cutting it to shape and applying it was pretty easy (obviously not as perfect as a proper laser cut kit). If you have fancy angled carbon tubes then I reckon the extra money for a proper kit would be worth it over the hassle of trying making rectangular sheets fit.

I use the 3M 8671 stuff (£20 for 50mm wide x 3 metres). It’s quite stiff  but goes on well to flat surfaces and tubes ,doesn’t like forming around awkward shapes but I mostly use it on contact points for frame bags and such so it works for me.

I do use a heat gun to torture it in to shape 😉

Not sure if you can get this in the UK, but i’ve wrapped three large frames almost completely with it and it’s pretty easy to use.
    Tenacious Tapes Anti-Chip

It definitely conforms better than the 3M stuff i’d tried in the past.

One roll seems enough for about two frames, depending on how much coverage you’re aiming for.

ShackWrap do the Xpel sheets for less than Invisiframe.

I have used the 3m stuff on my last 2 bikes and it is fine, especially for £10. Hard wearing and good for scratches but does let a bit of water and dirt under the edges so looks tatty after a while.

Heating it with a hair drier helps for the curves and tubes.
