    I don’t… but I’m aware I probably should.

Has anyone ever got ill because they didn’t?

I got a nasty festering sore on my left bollock once, probably as a result of uncleanliness.

Oh, wait, that’s not what you mean is it…. 😳

Sometimes when I can be bothered. People who wash oranges and bananas perplex me.

Isn’t the point of washing fruit and veg to get rid of chemicals and the like?

    So I’ve heard.

    Possibly.

I assumed it was because of dirt and stuff.

If anyone turns up who does wash them… (and those who don’t).. Are you generally ill much?

Wash in tap water straight from shops then second wash in boiled filtered water & wipe with microwaved kitchen towels immediately before cooking.

why not just microwave the food and cut out the first 2 steps?

personally i like to microwave myself instead of shower but we dont have a microwave big enough at work for my post gym clean-up.

    1. Someone’s been rummaging through loose veg before you. As we know from STW, some grown men don’t see the ned to wash their hands after using the loo.

    2. Fruit and veg are likely to have dirt, bacteria and pesticide residues on the skin. Whilst the risk is low, it’s easy enough to rinse any unpeeled fruit/ veg.

    3. Some veg is grown in poo. I dig chicken manure into the soil in my veg patch…

Over what time frame / level of backround levels of contaminent ?.

Actually, I don’t know what this thread is about.

Surely Google will be full of articles about agricultural product residues on fruit and veg ?..

    EDIT:
Do you think our ancestors consumed hyper-clean food ?.
    Well, probably not.
But neither was their food intensively farmed and sprayed with pesticisdes, etc ….

    wipe with microwaved kitchen towels

What do you find are the best settings for microwaving them?

then second wash in boiled filtered water

You see, not enough people do that.

Or if they do, they can’t be bothered to wait for the water to boil for a reasonable amount of time before filtering it and using it to wash their fruit and veg. Followed by wiping with microwaved kitchen towels of course.

Can’t you just rig / fudge up some work-round to get the microwave oven to operate with the door wide open.

    Then you could cleanse… everyone.

All of it is grown in poo on my allotment, but well rotted poo mind 😉

Sheeps poo, left in a water bucket to stew, makes a great if slightly wiffy fertilizer.

and they go around touching everything else…. worrying about this could end up with demanding to see the cutlery at fancy eating establishments put through an autoclave and handled with gloves before being willing to eat.

    2. Fruit and veg are likely to have dirt, bacteria and pesticide residues on the skin. Whilst the risk is low, it’s easy enough to rinse any unpeeled fruit/ veg.

fair enough, but be aware that if not near a tap…rubbing alcohol gel into an apple doesn’t make it any tastier i’ve found

    3. Some veg is grown in poo. I dig chicken manure into the soil in my veg patch…

if its not grown in poo its grown in soil and soil contains the decontaminated bodies of our ancestors, who were probably unwashed dirty people who forcefully sprayed diarrhoea at each other for fun then didnt mop up

I expect restaurants to provide me with washed cutlery. Maybe you have lower standards.

People without access to proper sanitation get ill more often.
