i’m going to dress-up as a street urchin and run about the olympic village shouting “shine yer boots guvna!?” in my best dick van dyke accent.

its the only way people will fly home feeling like they’ve experienced the real england.

    FACT.

20 minutes wait is nowt. They’ll be queuing longer to take a piss. I’ve waited for longer to get into OT or even Salford RLFC’s poxy little ground without having a tantrum or collapsing from starvation.

McDs, Coke, VISA etc have invested many millions in this so they are entitled to take a slice and anybody who thought they wouldn’t is naïve. If it wasn’t sponsored it wouldn’t happen.

I really don’t get the whole “it’ll be shit” attitude that some people have, just think of all the athletes training hard to do really well, wanting to represent their country, couple of weeks ago I was at the rowing lake, and spoke to a few of the guys there, and they were are super excited about it all, and wanted it to look *perfect* for the whole world to see, you could see they were just bursting to start.

not sure anyone here is saying the games will be shit, just the organisation behind it

FWIW, I doubt I’ll watch any of it, athletics doesn’t interest me at all

Nonsense. The OG and the World Cup both functioned perfectly well before mass comercialisation. In fact, in the case of the World Cup, it’s got progressively worse ever since commercialisation took over. Mexico 70 or USA 94 ?

I think it’ll be great. As watching people run around for a bit goes.

Its just that it’d probably be equally good if we hadn’t have spent 7,000 squillion gazillion pounds on a 2 week runabout while we’re repeatedly being told the country is nearly bankrupt

Its cost £303 million to build a swimming pool FFS!!!

So some big companies are going to be overcharging their captive audience and making sure thay get away with it by banning food in the name of “security”. Gosh, my ghast is well and truly flabbered, I’ve never heard the like. Not for ohh, days and days. And do you know what, Christmas is coming and the cats are getting fat.
Still for those who don’t want to get ripped off at the Olympics, here’s my instant cut out and keep guide to not getting ripped off for food.

    DON’T FEKKING GO

See, even elfin could follow that. Probably. just sit at home shoving crisps and Sunny D into your face whilst watching the whole event on your 50″ recently acquired from a pal in Tottenham plasma telly.
or go out on your bike.

If I want to watch people runnng about in circles I’ll set the dogs on them

OK. It wouldn’t happen on the scale that it does today without sponsorship.

    Mexico ’70 – 3 weeks, 16 teams, 5 venues, total attendance 1,603,975

    South Africa ’10 – 5 weeks, 32 teams, 10 venues, total arrendance 3,178,856

i think phil’s suggestion is excellent. in fact i think there may be a case for stw sponsoring elfin to stand in a corner wringing his hands, advocating unions for better ticket prices and just generally shouting ‘liar, liar’. i’d fork out for that.

I would too! As long as he sung his protest in the style of Chas n Dave, while dressed as a pearly king and having a right old knees up with Barbara Windsor while she babbled on about the Krays

Not allowed to take food in? erm doubt that very much. It’s all give bad news out then peg it back a bit.

Anyways I’ve already started making my Spam and Lard sandwiches to sell to Northern Folk Like, just want to make em’ feel at home.

I’m off the Greenwich to watch a bunch of neddies bounce around the meridian, so maybe I ought to pack some Fois Gras n’ hummus in too..

elfin could sit on the shoulders of a fat bloke with a st georges cross painted on his naked belly that shouts ‘INGERLAAAAND!’ and ‘COME ON THEN SUNSHINE!!’ at anyone who looks remotely tanned.

a pearly king. priceless. there’s a sort of up to date pearly jacket in the v&a at the moment. he could maybe get them to sew something up for him so that his cutting edge design/but still street credentials aren’t impinged upon. and i’d feel bad for him if he was doing his protest in a bad building so the velodrome would be an obvious choice. but only if i’m assured he doesn’t appear on a single speed.

elfin, i’m going to apologise right now for having fun at your expense while at the same time admitting i near sprayed coffee all over my monitor at phil’s last comment

I dont agree with banning fluids, but while its still home office requirement for flights, and Olympic security will be run to similar levels, its not that surprising.

Would it not occur to terrorists to pack their explosives in baby food containers, which are still allowed?

Or the baby? Tap it on the back one too many times and puke bursts all over your shoulder…

That McDonalds looks amazing wish I was going to the games now so i can get the special Olympics burger. Maybe they will do onion rings sold in 5 packs but with the batter coloured like the Olympic rings?

Did we do the fact that some councils in and around London will be ensuring you get fined for letting your property during the olympics?

Westminster effectively bans short term lets of 90 days or under unless planning permission is obtained – but this is rarely given.

If she were to rent out her home anyway during the games, she could face a fine of £20,000 and even a criminal record

Westminster are actually hiring people to enforce this.

Combine this with Boris suggesting we might just want to not travel on public transport during the olympics to keep it free for visitors and I think the olympics will be the finest screw you to the population of a host city for some time.

    special Olympics burger

    😆 nice one!

People who bought Olympic tickets have money to burn anyway, so why would they be worried about spending a bit extra on food & drink?

Actually khani, they have plans for an upward extension of the Exclusion Zone M25 once the Olympics are over

Its to stop the filthy hourdes descending to wash their socks in their* new great big £303 million bath 😉
