    Alright chaps,

I woke up two weekends agos with a stiff / painful neck; I’m oretty sure I slept on it a bit odd.

For about 3 days I had real trouble moving my head, and it was just very painful sitting down. It’s now at the stage that it’s not painful all the time, but my shoulders are quite sore and it hurts to turn my neck fully to either side.

I’ve not bothered going to the doctor’s, as I don’t really think there’s much they can do….

Anyone else had similar injury? The last bad injury I had was a back spasm caused by picking up a climbing toothbrush, that and a broken toe from clipping my foot against a plug in the hallway. I’m real hardcore.

    Cheers

    Just eight short weeks, wow.

I had similar forever ago, still at school in fact. Came on out of the blue, felt at first like I’d slept funny. Got worse and worse to the point where my folks had to come collect me from school, absolute agony. Long story short, a muscle spasm was diagnosed, and I was given a foam collar thing to wear to provide support until it calmed down.

This was like a quarter of a century ago though, so they might have better treatment for it now, some magic pins or something.

Aye, ignore the free at point of use, qualified practitioner delivered, evidence based medical treatment and take a short cut straight to paid-for victorian bone philosopher to fix your sore muscles. 🙂

At least give your GP a chance to shrug and tell you he’s got the same thing only worse before you get your wallet out!

Acupuncture – i went once a week for about 6-8 weeks and it did really work…

Probably cured itself in that time – does anybody seriously believe sticking a needle in one part of the body will affect another – totally daft.

When I’ve had acupuncture they put the needles into the problematic part of the body – and that works!

Ever heard of the placebo effect?

I had the exact same thing on thursday! I got out the car and just got an agonising pain. Luckily I was doing some temp work with some nurses and they helped out a bit but for 2 days it was pretty bad. it is now pretty much sorted. I’ve just given it rest. If it gets unbearable, massage the muscle with your hands. (nurses advice)

Last year I woke with what I thought was just the usual stiff neck I get every 6 months or so (I figure from sleeping awkwardly). But it got worse during the day rather than better and by early afternoon it hurt in any position, I knew there was no chance of getting a GP appointment at that time (and probably not much he’d do anyhow) so tried to find an osteo but in the end went to a chiro as only one I could find who was available that day. She worked on it enough to loosen it up so I had a decent amount of neutral pain-free position but didn’t cure it. Went to my GP a few days later (was still causing me problems) but he didn’t even have a look at it, jsut advised ibuprofen and that chiro/osteo isn’t helping if it doesn’t fix it in the 3 sessions or less. Actually carried on with the chiro and sorted me out in the end + lots of non-quack advice.
