*Possibly the most random question of the evening!*

Watching the Zurich diamond league meeting, and it’s been raining. So, the surface is wetter than an otter’s pocket.

The javelin throwers seem to be launching themselves in to the throw more, falling over as the last movement. Is this a technique to avoid getting red flagged in the wet? Thinking it might be easier to stop a whole body lying down or something!

Nah, they’ve got really effective methods of avoiding red flags.

A tragic accident that took place in Germany thus significantly reducing the chances of anyone hitting the report button because of my black humour.

It’s nothing to do with the wet, they do it anyway as so much momentum has been gained going forwards they need to haul the anchors hard to stay behind the line.

glasgowdan, you may well be right, but I don’t remember seeing anyone do that in the dry, that’s all.

I didnt watch tonight, so not 100% sure what you are referring to when you say falling over, But a few javelin throwers do launch themselves forward and put their hands down after the throw, if that’s what you mean.

CFH you need to watch more athletics! 🙂 It’s a better sport than biking anyway…

I used to compete but nowadays the body says NO!

Some of the guys do it all the time. It is actually a way of reducing the stress on the knees when trying to stop before the line. I don’t remember many of the girls doing this though.

Very entertaining though and adds a bit of drama to the evening. Watching it now as I was out riding earlier 😀
