renton – I think people are saying it’s not great but it’s not unusual for people on the classifieds to have intermittent access to postal facilities.

If it’s *really* important to you to have something asap then the onus is probably on you to tell someone as part of the pre-payment process.

    Somethign along the lines of;

“I’ll pay the askign price but need it by Friday, is that OK?”

would have avoided a lot of grief.

It does but it’s probably 50:50.

He did tell you it wouldn’t go until the weekend so you’ve not been sat waiting for it all week and posted this on a Friday afternoon – just not soon enough for you to do anything about it…

Not read much of this because lifes too short.
Three pages over a classifieds light purchase that should never have happened?

    😳

Christ on a bike….. the point Im trying to make is that he told me after I had paid rather than a quick email along the lines of “Im at work all week so cant post out until the weekend is that ok ?”

That’s like saying ‘yes’ with your fingers crossed…. It does work both ways but the delivery date is important to you therefore you should comfirm it.

I’ll ask again; how did you pay? PayPal or PayPal Gift? I suspect the latter hence all the fuss.

    I think that’s understood.

The debate seems to be whether this is acceptable or not?

Exactly right! And since you didn’t do anything to avoid it, you can’t complain too much that neither did your seller. You both had it in your control to avoid the situation you’re now in. Yet you’re acting like you’ve been wronged and it’s all his fault.

Don’t quite understand why you’re so worked up about it, but assume it’s because you didn’t like his attitude when you put in your offer… it’s just fine to post at the next weekend.

    Ok let’s see then……

How many of you think it’s acceptable for a seller to send something out to you nearly a week after you paid for it without telling you that was going to happen beforehand??

    renton

It’s irrelevant how I paid as I chose to pay that way.

    wwaswas

I’d try and avoid it but if I found myself in that position as a seller I wouldn’t feel too bad that it was taking me 4 days to post it.

I’d tell the buyer there was a delay and give a refund if asked though.

Yes. It’s a private seller, not a web super store and folk have lives. If you need something urgently, arrange it before you pay.

    a) its not a week its a few days, stop exaggerating your just making yourself look even sillier.
    b) I think it is acceptable.
    c) You didn’t do anything to warn the seller that you needed it quickly.
    d) Throwing around allegations on the forum is not acceptable.

Yeah, taking the money Tuesday and mailing on Saturday seems perfectly acceptable to me for a private sale.

Msp what allegations are you on about?

Let’s count shall we Tuesday to Saturday is 5 day’s in my books go to Tuesday at the earliest the week after for delivery is 7 day’s

Renton, reverse the transaction and buy from a shop if it’s that much of a problem. You’ll be able to do that as only an idiot would pay by PayPal Gift or Bank Transfer in these circumstances and you’re not an idiot are you?

Errr your question above was asking about sending something not delivery… Seems you can’t make your mind up. Can you put me on the list of people you won’t buy from as well please?

4 days. Though since it was never realistic for it to post out the same day that you paid for it, in fact it’s less than half a week later than the earliest you could expect.

Whilst renton is a bit….precious, not giving a refund (for whatever reason) is out of order. It won’t cost the seller anything. It’s not been posted, there has been no sale yet.

Give the seller a chance. Renton paid this morning. The seller may not have been anywhere near his email all day. Knickers+twist+premature+idiot

+1 better add me to the list. I’ve another name for not to sell to list as well.

I’ve made the effort to post stuff out in the same day as I’ve had payment !!

So it seems that on here it is reasonable for a buyer to wait that long without been told in the first place they will be waiting a while!

    Renton, for your benefit:

You’ve asked ‘am I right to feel a bit unhappy etc’

The consensus is no, you’re not right

You are also coming across as a bit of a childish whinger which is why you’re getting all the ‘added value’ responses

I’d pack it in now and go and do your homework

Yes, you have the absolute right to feel justified in your feelings. If that’s how you feel, that’s how you feel. It’s not rocket science.

Whether other people would share your feelings is however an entirely different matter.

But, regardless of how OTHER people feel, you are unhappy and have cancelled the transaction and requested a refund. That is your right and your choice.

P.S. I’d have done the same.

And? It’s not impossible, you just can’t expect it. You sent the payment first thing in the morning, most folks won’t see that til later in the day. If it were me, there’s a small chance I’d see it at lunchtime, but even then it’s not getting posted out that day because I won’t have it with me, and it won’t be addressed (since only about 50% of “complete” sales ever seem to end with money changing hands- the posting process starts when I see the money)

    In conclusion,

FFS….its a private sale not chain reaction cycles. Posting on Saturday is totally acceptable. What would you have done if he’d posted it out 2nd class on thursday, it would probably not reach you till tuesday anyway? Would you still be on here whining about it?

If you needed it for a specific date you should have checked first.

In reality you’ve probably done yourself no favours by posting this, given you’ve come on here bad mouthing him I wouldn’t blame him for telling you to do one…

sorry for ranting, but this kind of thread really riles me.
