I have an old set of Ortlieb panniers (probably got them off here) that have provided sterling service. But one of them now has a hole. So in the spirit of not wanting to waste stuff, I'd like to repair it.Â
Tenacious tape after a good clean seems to be the way to go - has anyone tried this? Any joy? Anything else I should be considering?Â
Ta.Â
I have stitched the odd hole and then applied glue to ensure it's waterproof. My commuting panniers have had a hard life.
I used a PVC repair kit to patch a hole after it fell off the rack and bounced down the road. That was over ten years ago and it's still fine.
Given how good the front rollers have been I've got a set of the Gravel bags too - loads lighter but they will be for bike packing and not used every day. I doubt the gravel packs will survive as many crashes the front rollers (used on the rear) have had.
I've got heaps of ortlieb dry bags going back nearly 30 years. Inevitably they got holes and tears but I have fixed them all with a blob of aquasure glue and it has been a bombproof repair. I usually put sellotape on the outside and the glue on the inside and then remove the tape when dry. The repair is basically invisible, and just a little rubbery bump on the inside.Â
Mine are all scuffed from catching a rough stone wall on a path regularly. I would just tape up the inside, I haven't bothered as they don't leak. Mine must be 30 years old and proving to be bombproof. Â
I actually have some new ones I bought as replacements, well in case of theft, but not yet needed.
The worse they look the less nick able, I leave mine outside the gym, shops, library etc, no one seems interested.
Ortlieb offer a pretty good value repair service in the UK. Either direct with Lyon who are the importers or via selected dealers.Â

Mine have never leaked.
^that's the kit I used but not sure it's still available.
Cheers all, sounds like it's deffo worth a try. Just need to get the right glue I guess...Â
