I seem to be suffering from the soles separating on my Five Tens... and my son's. Our riding shoes are often wet for days at a time in this climate - hot and humid. Attempts to dry them in hot sun seem to make things worse as the fabrics shrink from the sole and the glue deteriorates.
I've tried Shoe Goo a few times but it never lasts long. Most recently both of Reeksy1's Sam Hill Five Ten's soles were held on 'solely' by the sewing on the toe.
Has anyone better product suggestions or tips on getting glue to hold?
... and here's Soul Glo anyway, 'cos why not.
Sexual chocolate!
... tried that but it melts too easily and clogs my pedals.
The soles of my admittedly ancient shoes for the indoor trainer have suffered exactly the same. I tried Impact adhesive but this only lasted a few weeks. The fix for me was Upol TigerSeal which is a medium strength polyurethane adhesive. I think any good quality polyurethane glue would work. I've repaired both like this as the soles almost came off on the Wattbike. 3 years now & they're still attached. Don't get it on your cat. It's not Sudocrem & it won't come off 😂
I have the same issue with my Fox Unions. I wear them mainly when it’s really wet. And I use a boot dryer. So im assuming the heat has damaged the glue. My main shoes are Five Tens, but they handle the wet rather poorly, so I tend to use the Fox Unions as a sacrificial pair of shoes!
I was looking at this this morning. I found Barge and S18, which both look promising. Weldwood was suggested as well.
I've got some Black Witch wetsuit repair glue, which I might try before I buy anything. I want to get some more life out of barefoot running shoes.
My issue with the 5.10s is filling in pedal pin holes, rather than glueing soles on, so I think shoe-goo is worth another try.
Suspect the real trick/difficulty with glueing mtb soles is getting both sides sufficiently clean.
I used Stormsure to glue my walking boots, they stayed together and seem fine. I also used it to glue a zip back into a waterprooof jacket.
The soles on my Five Ten Goretex boots started to fall off because the adhesive had failed - maybe due to the heat from my shoe dryer.
I had reasonable results with black polyurethane sealant, it got them through one more winter anyway.
If Shoe Goo has failed (assuming you used it correctly) I think I'd either be taking them to Lancashire Sports Repair or fixing them with a new pair.
Nothing helpful to add, but that's pretty shocking that Five Tens (and Fox Unions apparently) fall apart so easily. "Let's design a shoe that'll be used in wet muddy conditions; and here's the kicker - when they dry out, they'll fall apart!"

I wouldn't neoprene has some pretty specific adhesives.
And you want the best chance on the first go rather than making everything worse by coasting it in ineffective stuff.
With contact adhesive you really need to apply proper pressure after you stick it together, all over and particularly around the edges. Either a press or more likely in a diy setting 'it it with an 'ammer.

I've used the Loctite Shoe Glue to some success on my Freeriders but as said above the hard bit is getting them clean enough to make it work.
