eat well.

A word before we cook

What is mountain biking without eating well?

For a good while, tucked between the ride reports and the bike tests, Singletrack magazine ran a recipe column. It was the work of Charlie Hobbs — a member of the Singletrack crew with a rare talent for turning a long, muddy day into something worth coming home to.

His recipes were never fussy. They were the food of the ride: warming soups for “can’t-feel-my-toes” days, stews thrown together from only-just-compatible parts, wild garlic foraged trailside, and the odd invigorating cure picked up somewhere far from home. Good stories, good food, and no small amount of mischief.

We’ve gathered them here, in one place, for the first time. Pour something, and dig in.

The Singletrack Kitchen was a magazine column before it was a web page. If you like your riding served with good writing and better food, there’s a whole lot more where this came from.
