I'm guessing that the ad thing for members on mobile isn't going to get sorted.

It's not affecting me (Chrome on Android, and Firefox on Windows 11) seems strange to affect some members but not others

By default Brave tends to err on the side of security and privacy, are you sure it's not automatically clearing the login cookies periodically?

Dunno...I've been using Brave for several years and I haven't (knowingly) changed any settings. 🤷

I am now getting the weird sizing / formatting isdues where some thread are either in tiny fonts or you only see 1/3 of the width of them on screen.

Tyoeface is small enough at the best of times

Its really difficult to use the forum now.  Its certainly worse for me now than before the revamp

Does seem pointless now commenting on  bugs  and faults now, no one comes back to update on them.

The less and less time spent on due to issues on here makes me rethink my membership

I access the site on a mobile 95% of the time and the page formatting is awful. It zooms in randomly, and trying to navigate the forums and threads is tedious at best. Going into a thread shows statistics at the top taking up half the screen and the first post is not even visible until you scroll down - twice in my case. Swapping between forums is time consuming as well for no apparent reason. The old way where they were listed at the top/bottom of the page was much better along with a button to go to the top (instead of much scrolling) was very useful. The performance is no better than right before the migration when a rogue plugin was discovered to be causing all the massive slowness and was subsequently disabled.

Some of the formatting is to do with the Reverb advert, you can see the overlay but not do anything about it when using software that's not allowed to be talked about.

The Ukraine thread fills the width of my phone screen (and a bit) even in landscape view. None of the others do this

There's also a stupidly large square with an arrow in that takes up most of the phone portrait view width at the bottom of every thread

Weird that, I thought everything had gone back to normal the last couple of days but I have just checked the Ukraine thread and that's still buggered for me.

Everything else seems fine though. Android Chrome

Same here on my phone.  It's basically unusable.  (Android and Chrome)

This is what it looks like for me.

Basically, all is well. That's Android/Chrome, all standard/default font settings.

Except for the horrible dark background! Or did you choose bedtime/battery saver mode?

Looks like they've enabled dark mode somewhere. This is my equivalent of the same posts in non-dark mode (android, chrome)

Further advert creep now for paid up members, as well as the Saracen banner. Under the guise of "subscriber deals" this time. ☹️

Stick it on the member discounts page if that's what it is. If it's a pop-up on the main screen, it's an advert, plain and simple.

Thumbs down would open a whole new can of worms.

The layout should be better now on mobile and I've added a quick and dirty shotcuts menu at the top and bottom to replace the hamburger menu.

Observation , not a complaint. Can you place the bottom one right after the last post please?

Can't do that easily right now. It's kind of a..

Bottom menu

...thing on the page right now, but there are probably better ways to do it next week.

Click the cross - you won't see it again.

That's a notice for members letting you know that there's a new perk available to you in the members area.

@Mark are you aware of the issue whereby visiting the forum after an indeterminate time, (some?) subscribers are hit with ads until they go into their profile (top right icon) and then back to the forum?

It looks like some sort of caching issue and might actually be some sort of browser thing rather than the forum software (or some interaction of both). FWIW I'm on Chrome/Android and don't have any plugins running. It's not currently a major issue given the workaround.

@scotroutes I only have a hypothesis for you at the moment and I could be wrong. It's hard to know without being able to inspect the browser code on an affected device, but...

If you are logged in as a full member our site will simply not add the ad code to the header of the page. In more detail, when you are logged in as a full member your wordpress user role is set at 'subscriber'. The ad code checks the user role on every page load and if it's 'subscriber' the ad code is not inserted. We can verify that at our end.

However, if your browser doesn't recognise that you are logged in to the site then the ad code will be inserted. It sounds like as soon as you refresh the page your browser is 'remembering' it is logged in and recognising your user role.

That's a theory. As for a solution that could be trickier. It's tough sometimes for us as what we are running is almost an app like website in it's functionality for subscribers. An app would be perfect as that's a closed system and the rules are the same for everyone. A website is trickier as it's not the same for everyone - different devices, different browsers, different browser versions, different OS different settings within the OS. All these things have to be accounted for in order to give an experience that is the same for every user. It's not impossible but it's hard - we keep working on it every day.

I'd love an app version of the site just for subscribers - but that's a fairy tale dream that requires more staff and a lot more money. Just paying the bills right now keeps me awake at night.

Yeah. I was thinking it might be a browser thing. I'll have a look at any settings I can adjust at my end and let you know if things change.

guessing they'll claim this is "members' deal" not an "advert" (which it clearly is 🤔 )

Apple save the images ¿Sometimes?all the times¿ In their own proprietary .heic format, there's a chance the forum can't handle it, I've seen file uploaders on websites stump people(my wife) because they only understand .jpg or .PNG

I think I've clocked what might be one of the issues generating the off a cliff reduction in posts and general forum interaction......

With the old forum the little icon that identified the thread was on to multiple pages only showed when the thread was on to multiple pages. There is a similar icon now but it's there all the time. Consciously or subconsciously it used to act as a flag of a active thread with lots of contributions worth clicking on.

Now,.....it's all very passive and beyond some very small font number of posts (which I guess does the same thing if your eyes are good enough to read it) , busy threads just don't standout. Not that there are many busy threads anymore.

Interaction bring more interaction and something needs to happen to generate traffic. I don't know if it's been posted and I've missed it but number of posts a day does seem to have dropped right off. I don't know if it was just a consequence of a very unusable forum towards the end of the old one and the start of the new or it's a larger change in usage (people avoiding political news and debate at one end, falling out of love with social media and maybe caring less about bikes and biking) but it's lost enough of it's buzz that I check in less and less frequently and I can't be alone.

I was notified about replies on a thread I'd subscribed to yesterday but when I went into the thread they weren't there. Only later in the day did they appear. I understand from the updates on here a while ago that this was a known issue - is it still a known issue?

Why is still taking ages for pages to load or post comments?, the pages can hang for anything between 5 seconds to 20 seconds

It’s only this website btw, using iMac/safari & iPad Pro, iPhone. All up to date software wise

(edit - 8 seconds to post above)
