Mountain Bike Crossword Week 2: How well do you know your tools?

You wash it, you fettle it, you swear at it in the cold and lube it back into submission — but how well do you actually know your bike and the tools you need to maintain it? Week two of our mountain bike crossword is a tour of the workshop with every clue pointing at a single item you might find there.

Most of the clues are straight definitions you’ll fire through on muscle memory, but we’ve slipped a few cryptic ones into the grid to make you actually think — and, as ever, there’s a hidden word lurking in the finished puzzle for anyone who fills it all in. Grab a coffee, see how many you can name without sneaking out to the shed for a look.

How to play

Tap a square, type your answer, and the grid fills in as you go. Stuck on one? Leave it and come back — the crossing letters usually give the cryptic ones away. It’s subscribers only this week, If you can see the puzzle below then it’s just you and your component knowledge.

Singletrack Owner/Publisher

Mark has been riding mountain bikes for over 30 years and co-owns Singletrack, where he's been publisher for 25 years. While his official title might be Managing Director, his actual job description is "whatever needs doing" – from wrangling finances and keeping the lights on to occasionally remembering to ride bikes for fun rather than just work. He's seen the sport evolve from rigid forks to whatever madness the industry dreams up next, and he's still not entirely sure what "gravel" is. When he's not buried in spreadsheets or chasing late invoices, he's probably thinking about his next ride.
