Starling Cycles Announces New Things For The Year Ahead

Starling Cycles has released a video outlining their plans for the year ahead – including the release of a new bike, the Starling Cycles Twist.

Mullet Twist. A new cocktail?

Starling Cycles says the Twist is:

‘the love-child of the brand’s two award-winning bikes, the Swoop and the Murmur. The Twist is built with a monster-truck 29′′ wheel up front and a fast, fun and flicky 27.5′′ wheel out back.

‘With 160mm rear travel, mullet wheels and plenty of tyre clearance, it’s built to party. The 29′′ front wheel offers a ton of gyroscopic stability for monster-trucking through rough terrain. The 27.5′′ rear wheel means fun and flicky riding, great manoeuvrability and back-wheel-loving good times.’

‘Frames are constructed from custom-butted Reynolds 853 steel tubing, chosen for its combination of low weight and high strength.  Tubes are combined with laser cut and machined steel parts, resulting in frames with a simple and lively feel.’

Frames are available to order now, from £1770 without a shock or £1970 with a shock. We’d have loved a closer look, but the press pack we’ve been sent has lots of pictures of the Twist lurking in the wild, but not so much by way of close ups. So, have a gallery of the Twist leaning against things.

As well as the Twist, there’s the news that they’re bringing the manufacture of all front triangles back to the UK, where they’ll be hand built at Starling’s Bristol HQ. This means they’ll all get Starling’s signature head tube gusset, an integrated seat-clamp, a stainless dropper port and will be individually numbered. Rear triangles will continue to be handmade in Taiwan at ORA Engineering.

Finally, all bikes are now available with custom travel options. By adjusting the position of the shock-mount to allow the use of different stroke shocks, Starling will now offer longer or shorter travel versions options for Swoops, Murmurs and Twists.

I came to Singletrack having decided there must be more to life than meetings. I like all bikes, but especially unusual ones. More than bikes, I like what bikes do. I think that they link people and places; that cycling creates a connection between us and our environment; bikes create communities; deliver freedom; bring joy; and improve fitness. They're environmentally friendly and create friendly environments. I try to write about all these things in the hope that others might discover the joy of bikes too.
