There is a wide range of torches and gas avaialable, any ideas on what I should be looking for?

I’ll be doing a DIY solar install, with some pipes up to 28mm.

    Cheers.

for DIY you’ll be fine with the camping gaz one for about £25.

The high temp MAPP stuff starts costing quite a lot of money and if youre not planning on doing lots of stuff later. I did my solar install with the camping gaz one and still use it at my plumbing evening classes, but will upgrade soon as the flame stability isnt brilliant. However it has a handy stand which the high temp ones dont – and the guns ont he high temp are quite heavy making them prone to falling over.

(with the 28mm copper you;ll just have to move the lower temp torch around more than the high temp ones)

    £80

    £23

As Stoner has said you can probably get by with a basic £25 setup, I use a rothenberger super fire.

The main advantage other than nice compact stable flame is that it is instant to light and put out so you don’t have a blazing torch to put down. This really comes into its own when working on existing systems working in cramped awkward positions, this may or may not apply to you if it is all a new install.
