    5 now at 10.20 so a team is coming together.

    Anyone else interested sign up to cat A here https://www.zwift.com/events/view/1389064

    (and let’s forget about the 8.15 option).

    I signed up but looking unlikely now, sry – too much on tomorrow morning. Have a good one those who ride it, looks a tough old effort.

    OK, as it stands it looks like:

    Team STW, in the pen by 10:20, start delay TBC (should be available this evening; I will post it!)

    @paino

    @phil56
    – change your tag!

    @trolo1234

    @haloric
    – sort your tag!

    4 is a small team, which might be a tall order on this course. But is there a chance that @zilog6128 might ride? And perhaps @mbs can be persuaded? You might need to decide on here whether to go for it or not.

    More riders (not just the ones I mention here!) are of course welcome. Join Cat A here: https://www.zwift.com/events/view/1389064

    Thanks Adam.
    I like the idea of an early workout tomorrow – so I’m definitely up for this

    I’ve signed up with my son Jack – although for some reason thats not showing on ZP yet under his ‘signed up’ profile page.

    We should both be there, I’ll check its registered later today. We are in the same shed, so if we have a technical drama, we’ll both be gone.

    @savoyad yup, go on then, looks v tough course but I’m in!

    Right, it’s looking good now.
    Get tagged STW.

    I’ll post the start delay when it appears.

    Final details, we’ve assembled a good team.

    Team STW, start delay 15 minutes, so in the pen by 10.20 and off at 10.35.

    @paino

    @phil56

    @trolo1234

    @zilog6128

    @haloric

    @mbs
    (check your entry/tag)
    And Jack.

    It is 2 full laps ie back down again after the climb both times.

    Hide behind phil and paino on the flat, then they will naturally recover as you take the climb at a pace which holds you together (10/15 minutes w/kg for the Cs I guess). And repeat!

    Good luck!

    All being well i’ll pitch in tomorrow. Planning to join DrP’s ride then segue straight in.

    Hopefully the Christmas eve social is exactly that

    Well that wasn’t as much of a chatty pace as I had hoped! This is going to be harder work than I hoped.

    Apologies guys – family situation meant I couldn’t join.

    Well I don’t know about anyone else but I’m **** 😂 Hadn’t ridden the 2 lapper before and was NOT expecting the final descent/flat so buried myself on the 2nd climb 😃 good ride all (those who twigged it was a TEAM event anyway 😉) and happy Chrimbo! 🎅

    Cheers for the ride guys. Sorry to ditch on lap 2. I had to go (on wobbly legs) find the emergency gel in my ride bag.

    I definitely over estimated what I’d be achieving on a breakfast of 2 espressos.

    No trouble Phil, I hope all is well.

    That was not very Christmassy course selection by the organisers!

    What is your gap? Did @mbs drop you on the descent?

    Merry Christmas all, I’ll be back in a couple of days to see who wants to climb the alpe for new year.

    Hope everything’s OK @phil56.

    All OK thanks.
    Problem was only what will be happening a lot today I expect – teary phone call as the realisation of not seeing kids/grand kids/great grandkids tomorrow gets closer

    Anyway, well done to the team who made it, and a Happy Xmas to you all – thanks for the rides this year guys, and a special Xmas thanks to you Adam. It’s been great to be part of this team effort, I’ve really enjoyed it all.

    The Mitchellvi twins enjoyed also.

    I was struggling on the 2nd climb, couldn’t get the bike to drop into the granny gear, never normally need it, but was having to stomp at 55rpm to stay with the group, any slower and I would stall, and any higher rpm and I was pulling away again.

    Even though we started the first descent together, we soon split, even though I was only super tucking, we hit 105kmh.

    Martin was having a similar but more pronounced problem on his watt bike, plus he’s part racing whippet and any sort of rabbit up the road gets him over excited.

    Comms was reassuringly awful. I spent the entire race using press-to-talk on the phone, but I think my mic was actually the bluetooth speaker, and my speaker was either getting blown out or too faint/garbled to catch much of what was being said.

    Jack took in in his stride at 27, damn him.

    Happy Xmas all

    Yeah, race tuck is quick. I hit 102 I think down there second time and I was on my own by then, if you had a wheel to follow you will have been seriously moving!

    You people. I only got to 99. And that got me dropped briefly, and a chase back on at the bottom.
    Beforehand I had thought about going back up for the badge if I didn’t get it. Afterwards, not so much.

    Good ride thanks guys. And thanks @savoyad for organising!

    How do you do a race tuck? I got dropped both times on the descent!

    How do you do a race tuck? I got dropped both times on the descent!

    you just stop pedalling! As long as you’re going fast enough (58 kph IIRC) it happens automatically.

    It’s why it’s absolutely critical to summit together on a course like this… anyone with legs left can then put the hammer down and everyone gets dragged up to supertuck speed as quickly as possible. If you don’t do that then the speed differential means massive gaps appear very quickly and you lose tons of time re-grouping on what should be the fastest part of the course! However, that is far easier said than done tbh 🤣

    trolo1234

    Ah noted! I’ll try and remember that for next time!

    zilog6128

    Obviously you have to remember to start pedalling again when the descent flattens out otherwise you’re suddenly sat there at 0% gradient doing 0 watts 🤣

    So this week is up the Alpe and maybe (it’s TBC) down again.

    Are people interested? And if so, Thursday morning at 10.20 or back in an evening slot?

    Speak up and I’ll sort an entry out…

    phil56

    I’d be up for it pretty much anytime during the day, but not in the evening – not that I have anything much else to do in the evening, just that somehow Zwifting on NYE feels wrong!

    Thanks Adam but I’m not doing this one!

    a.) I will be very slow
    b.) since 19th December I have done 700km on the bike including the Uber pretzel and PRL full.
    c.) due to b.) I will be even slower than a.)!

    I have got 60km to go on the festive 500 and then I will have a couple of days rest ready for the first race of the series a week today!

    Good luck if you guys do decide to do it!

    TTT up the Alpe??? That’s bonkers 🤣🤣🤣

    Good luck to those that do it, but it’s not my strong point Hahaha

    So far only @phil56 has shown any enthusiasm. Anyway, I’ve entered a team in the morning slot, 10.20am.

    Enter category A here: https://www.zwift.com/events/view/1420926

    Let’s see what comes together. A team formed at the last minute last time…

    haloric
    Free Member

    I’m gonna skip this one – A TTT up the Alpe does not hold much appeal for me.

    There’s no draft to use, and climbing as a team will be pretty boring for the fitter guys, and quite stressful for those at the back trying to keep up, imho.

    Good luck to those that do it !

    savoyad

    Start delay for team STW is 11 minutes tomorrow, so in the pen by 10.20 and off at 10.31.

    But

    Only @phil56 is signed up so far.

    Anyone fancy joining him? Cat A here: https://www.zwift.com/events/view/1420926

    If so, great. If not, normal service (sensible course, usual time) can resume next week.

    @savoyad are you riding with the ‘other’ team?

    The following info was just out on the WTRL Facebook page so the sign up process may be changing.

    WTRL TTT#89 – New Year’s Eve Alpe blitz/slog

    Email confirmations will be coming out to all teams in around 25 minutes. When you receive these, note the change to the event links contained within the email.

    I encourage you to have as many of your team riders use these TEAM SPECIFIC LINKS as possible as part of a trial of a new system (you still need to tag for the time being!)

    haloric
    Free Member

    Yes, looks like no more ZP tags – hurrah.

    This is from the ZRL but I imagine it will also be used to TTT

    NEW TEAM IDENTIFICATION SYSTEM

    Team Tags will NOT be used in SEASON 2

    Season 2 will see the launch of TEAM-SPECIFIC-PER-EVENT racer sign-on links and no further use of Team Tags.

    When a rider clicks these links, they are taken through the WTRL website where you may be asked to login. The website will identify who you are (by your stored Zwift ID number in your WTRL) and what team you are in and update our race database accordingly. You will then be forwarded on to the Companion App or Zwift.com event sign-on page automatically where all you have to do is select the correct pen. This means ALL ZRL riders will need a WTRL profile.

    If a rider changes teams, they will be required to click on the correct link for their new team which in turn updates the race database.

    etc etc

    Hopefully might see the end to manual starts in due course too, which would be nice.

    Hope it doesnt cause issues with our late team changes. Guess we no longer sign up until the team announcement which makes it a bit harder to manage.

    Good course this week – back to France for Casse-Pattes so once up the KOM but pretty flat otherwise. Not a lot to be gained by going silly on the aquaduct KOM as you will only save a few seconds versus being a lot more tired on the KOM which would cost you more time.
