There is no way I am sad enough to spend two hours on a sunny Good Friday evening sitting on a turbo trainer pretending to climb Alpe d’Huez.
Oh yeah, that C-19 thing. Guess I’m in then.
How much time have you allocated the ride Weeksy? The climb by itself takes me 90 mins and I’ve only ever ridden it as part of the Road to Sky which usually takes two hours all in (including the descent). I might need to start at 17:30 or it will be the middle of the night by the time I’m finished.
I’ve done the Alpe a couple of times now and it does my nut in because my turbo seems to freak out a bit at very low cadence.
Tacx Flux 2 – I like stand up in a higher gear and grind it out in a singlespeed stylee, it gives a break from sitting and spinning.
Annoyingly, my turbo takes this as not moving and power will drop out and read very low. I’ll be putting out say 300W but it reads 70W or so.
When the avatar momentarily stops and unclips while I’m pushing very hard, it puts murder into my heart directed at that stripy wee prick.
I’ve not actually done the alpe du zwift yet so this is quite handy, unfortunately at 100kg+ I won’t be setting the world on fire!
I should, by then, have recovered from last night’s STW ride which seemed to take quite a bit out of me – woke in the night with really tired legs and feeling a bit “overcooked” which lasted most of the day.
I’ve signed up. Sadistically quite looking forward to it.
I did it a few weeks ago and was having a nice tussle with someone; swapping positions every few mins. I finally got the better of him & starting putting a nice gap in – at about 25sec gap, he suddenly started speeding up & his w/kg went up to about 9w/kg – he came past me like a man possessed & then shortly afterwards it went back down to the same rate as when we had been battling.
I’m guessing he fudged his numbers to get back past me – dunno, but it was very odd.
Don’t forget, this is not a swift affiliated event, if you want to drop 10, 20 kg whatever, no one cares. If it means you’re riding with mates, go for it
