Not as much Saab ownership as I’d have thought.

    Disappointed.

First family car I remember was a early 1960s mini 850 in some sort of beige colour. When brother number 3 came along it was upgraded to a MK1 Ford Escort Estate.

KGS967G blue Mini1000. No heater, in Scotland.
Followed by TFG460K, an orange Austin 1100. Smelled of sheep, as had previously been used to transport sheep in the back, collie on the front seat.

Ahhh, the kettle. My cousin had one for about a year, bonkers fast above 6000rpm he said.

Ours was an Alfa Romeo Alfasud like this one

It was dark blue with awful sponge seats which were orange.
My lasting memory of that car is accidently draining the battery by leaving the courtesy light on after I’d been playing with the switch in the back seat, my Dad hadn’t noticed it was left on and next morning the battery was flat as a pancake.

Towards the end of it’s life it was more rust than car.

It got replaced with a 1981 VW Jetta which was a hand-me-down from my Grandparents. Must have been about 3-4 years old when we got it.

Pillar box red, it had a 4-speed gearbox and a woefully underpowered 1.3L engine whcih required a week’s written notice for any sort of mid-range acceleration.

my parents never learnt to drive so my brother was the designated family driver for many years.
however my dad wasnt too pleased with his choice of car…it was in 1985 and he bought a green 1977 Toyota Celica…he put a huge firebird sticker on the bonnet which pissed my dad off even more. he only hd it for a few months though before someone stole it and wrote it off…still have the pics somewhere at home
so he then went and bought a red 1977 toyota celica. he drove that to swansea to see some relative and thought it wouldbe clever to see how fast he could go through swansea centre and smashed into the back of another car…who later turned out to be said cousins next door neighbour! this one was sort of repairable so he kept it for a while before he shifted it and bought a black 1984 B plate mitsubishi colt sapporo turbo…
i still remember the number plates for the red celica OBG 448S and the sapporo B431 TRH
i think the original alloy wheels for the celica are still in my other brothers cellar

First cars I remember were in the early to mid 90s. Mum had one of these, C reg, in dark blue:

Dad had one of these, D reg in white and then a G reg in pale blue. It had some fancy suspension, so sat right down when turned off, but jacked itseslf up when turned on. Bet it was dreadful to drive:

Both were pretty crap and I remember several trips on the back of the AA truck after breaking down.
Late 90s Mum got this after the Volvo died. Wish we’d kept it, was a brilliant car. G reg, auto, but not turbo unfortunately. Had 4 gears and did about 10mpg. Very quiet though, and smooooth.

The first car I remember was a 1930’s Lanchester. One was on it’s last legs so my dad bough a second for spares, it had been owned by Mrs Lyle of sugar fame. It turned out to be far too good a spares car so he just ran it as it was. My mum learned unsuccessfully to drive in it.

I next remember a Bedford CA van which I caught and crushed my fingers in the sliding door of.

It was replaced with a two tone Rover P5 (GTV 764D)

Which in turn was replaced by a Daimler Majestic Major. A limousine V8 hemi dragster, one of the first production cars with all round disc brakes
