ask you parents or grand parents, they may have the same rose tinted glasses as myself.

I asked my dad. He remembers frequent civil unrest, IRA bombs, football riots and casual violence of a Friday night. The evidence suggests he’s right and you’re wrong.

He’s obviously trolling, but that doesn’t mean his points should go unchallenged.

this all sounds fun. Maybe we should campaign for the mods to replace the ban hammer with the birch. Might cause people to think twice before they post pictures of norks or try to evade the swear filter

Hi Ton. Some interesting points raised here. I work in the emergency services, and one country that should be looked as is Northern Ireland, where cops have been routinely armed for many years. They still have to deal with drunken folk/anti social behaviour on a Saturday night. Firearms are not the solution. Also, the training logistics of EVERY cop having to spend time off the beat training would be impossible and very very costly.
I don’t think this will happen anytime soon.

It would be nice tho 😀

Ton’s points on armed police in Europe and their influence on British footie fans can be seen as a factor in calming them down, but a bigger factor is probably how the German, French, Italian police beat the crap out of anyone who was English at the scene.

And even thought many English protested that they were not causing trouble after getting smacked round the head with a riot stick, and then bundled in a van, detained and deported, it did stop the violence and calm the situation.

Just a shame our police sit back at times of civil unrest and let the little darlings tire themselves out.

That didn’t happen during the UK riots. We were called from all over the UK to troubled areas. Due to cuts etc, we have barely enough to cover our own areas, nevermind trying to mobilise 50-60 moreto deal with civil unrest in other parts of the UK.

Capital Punishment never has been a deterrent. It exists purely for revenge.

Meanwhile in America where they have capital punishment

10 dead and dozens shot at the weekend. But it’s OK ‘cos it’s fewer than in the same period last year.

Rules for handing out guns, ask who wants them and then give them to the others…

You can’t actually think that’s true?

Arming our police would be detrimental, especially to Sunderland supporters. A mate of mine is a cop & is a Newcastle season ticket holder. 🙂

Bring back corporal punishment as well while we’re on.
