Have the same issue on two separate Win 10 laptops – a Surface (charges over USB) and a HP laptop (with power brick)

Basically, they are plugged in but the battery won’t charge. If you hover over the battery icon it says “plugged in, not charging” and the battery levels goes down over time. My Surface conked out on me while I was working earlier…
    Always worked OK before…

I have ran through all the trouble shooting online – tried different power supplies etc, have done all the windows updates and removed the battery and power supply drivers in device manager and re-installed/restarted.

Nothing seems to be working though. Anyone else had this problem and fixed it?

Am enjoying fixing this, along with my desktop which has lunched its hard drive while sitting peacefully on a shelf, a broken phone I dropped, its replacement which won’t connect to wifi and the old phone I am using’s USb socket is on its way out so its hard to charge too. Oh well, at least I have one computer left that is working (for now)

Could be either the battery or the port which has failed. I’ve had both problems on different machines result in that message.

I have this on my Linx 1010B Windows tablet. Never got to the bottom of it, even using a high powered charger.

The advice I’ve had is to delete the power management/battery drivers from the ‘devices’ menu, then refresh it.

That can work, but hasn’t from my Linx. I just have to charge it turned off, then use it, and when it goes flat, turn off for charging. Fortunately the battery lasts many hours, but it’s a pain. Pretty sure it’s a driver issue of some sort.

This happens on my home laptop after replacing the original battery with an aftermarket one. If I take the battery out and put it back in again while the laptop’s on, it charges.

Yeah, I am sure it’s a software issue. The same thing happened with the Surface a while ago but just fixed itself after a few weeks.
Though this time it isn’t charging even turned off. The HP is at my GF’s so will investigate later.

Both have fixed in batteries so I can’t pop them out/in

Do you get a charge light – I find I have to hold in the power switch on my Linx until the charging light comes on steady. If I power off and plug in charger, the light blinks, press and hold, it then goes steady and charges.

    I’ve tried all sorts.

Have you uninstalled the Microsoft acpi -compliant method battery in device manager?

What leads you think it’s a software issue? I would have thought the fact it happens even with the device switched off suggests it’s not a software problem.

Yes, now I’ve seen it’s not charging when switched off, it is likely hardware. Which probably means it’s goosed.

I will get a look at the hp one today and see if it charged up while turned off
